Cash Back Vs Getting Rewards Discount at Work What Is The Difference?

My company has tied up with a discount coupon reward program, where we can buy woolies, coles, petrol and pretty much every major brand in Oz. Generally save anywhere from 2.5% on fuel to 7% at JB.

I also see many discussions in this forum about cashback programs. I have never used cashback before. I am curious to understand if one has advantage over the other?

    Why not both?

    • If I am getting 4% cashback with Woolies and the same 4% upfront discount coupon through rewards program, which one do you choose? IMHO, the discount coupon provides an instant rebate and I don't have to wait to receive the cash back. Isn't it? unless I am missing something.

If you could only choose one, I'd say the instant rebate/discount is always better (as long as they have the same or higher percentage rate compared to cashback), you don't have to wait for the cashback to track, which may be worth slightly less due to inflation by the time you withdraw the money. Plus less hassle dealing with customer support when things go wrong.
        Remember, Time is money :D

  • There is no blanket rule.
For each store/purchase, just choose the option that gives you more savings, more convenient and less wait time for cleared cashbacks.
