Recommend Poe Security System with Floodlights?

Hi - anyone recommend or have experience with any of the PoE systems with floodlights? i.e. Reolink etc

I see a lot of threads for just the cameras but I have a few dark access points to my house so specifically want PoE with integrated floodlights as well.

TIA!

  • Why not just put a flood light next to the camera that has a sensor? Something like these. I bought the ones without the sensors and installed them yesterday, very happy with them and help my cameras.

Because the cameras already have built in, very bright, LEDs…

    • What JV said. Also, PoE Security Camera/Floodlight combinations don't need to be installed or replaced by a licensed electrician, don't need a giant extra light sitting right next to them looking butt ugly, are designed to work together with the camera and from the same app, and cost only a few bucks more than the same camera without a floodlight.

don't need to be installed or replaced by a licensed electrician

Under the Telecommunications Act 1997, only a registered cabler can install telecommunications cabling in concealed locations such as through walls, ceilings and floor cavities.

          I won't tell anyone if you don't.

But for what it's worth, I personally did get a cabler to grub the cable in because, frankly, I'd rather someone else get covered in dust and rat poop shuffling around in my ceiling. Also, I'm sure it looks a bit neater than it would have DIY.

Still, if I ever need to replace the cameras I won't need to call them back.

Do you also do your own electrical/plumbing too?

    • Thanks but yeah I echo below - just neater to have all in one. I don't need anything too bright - its really just a deterrent for a dark corner.

  • All my reolink cameras have very bright sensor lights.

    • Thanks. Which model do you have?

      • 811A & 823A

        • Yep I have the same and they are fine. Not as bright as a proper security light, but definitely light up the dark area fine.

I have two Reolink RLC-833A, one over the front door facing the driveway and one facing the front yard.

The one over the front door has more or less replaced our standard floodlight in the same location. It's a touch less bright, but it's more than bright enough for our purposes. It also has the advantage of being able to be set to only trigger when the AI detects people/cars/animals, not just random waving plants which sets off our standard floodlight. As a result, the dedicated floodlight mostly just stays off now to save power.

The floodlight over the front yard is handy if I want to check the veggies at midnight, but otherwise the floodlight on that camera is mostly turned off by default. Still, it's nice to have.

The cameras have optical zoom, which is nice to push the image out a little so it's not catching our eves.

The video streams from the two cameras are just being stored to their internal SD cards (an extra purchase). The cameras are powered via a PoE-enabled TP-Link smart switch. I haven't had any particular interest in buying an NVR or online storage.

I can stream direct to my phone or PC, and play back and download clips if I need to from there.

    I can recommend, nice units.

    • Thanks - good to know the standard light is bright enough. I've got a single storey house so the light doesn't need to be too bright to provide enough illumination as a deterrent. I'll probably go NVR if I go this route since house is being renovated anyway so might as well set it up properly once and not have to think about it for a while.

    • when the AI detects people/cars/animals

      or wasps/spiders…
