Hello
TL : DR - Title gives the gist, but there's more to it in this case (it's for someone with no home/contents insurance… and away from home anyway).
I have a relative in hospital, and I want to get them a tablet as they'll be stuck there for months (at least). But I'm worried about theft, and accidental damage (by her, staff, visitors, whomever etc).
I'm not rich, but I would get a good quality tablet, and similarly decent accessories. These things add up fast, and I want to protect it all.
I'm wondering, can you insure a tablet that you own, or one you that you rent… so that it is completely covered if anything happens to it?
E.g. - I assume you just pay a higher rental price, or monthly premium - to cover any eventuality? Is it possible to do this without having to pay the big deductible (large payment first) before they pay out the rest/replace it?
I don't want any repairs, just replacement if damaged… accessories included if they're damaged too (e.g. Case, S-Pen, Chargers etc)
BTW, there is one catch. They have a pretty full on mental illness, and I worry that they might intentionally, or unintentionally damage it - when they're out of it / having an episode etc.
I'm guessing no insurance will cover that ?
They don't have any home/contents insurance (and they couldn't afford it), so it can't just be added to that.
If there's anything that you think might be worth mentioning, please let me know - as it's new territory for me.
Thank you for your help
Instead of buying a really good tablet
Why not buy cheap Chinese tablets
Iplay 50 or teclast etc and buy shock proof case.
That way you can dump them if they are damaged and just have a few replacements
Samsung also make a reasonable price tablet in a shock proof case (for workers and miners etc) I've never used one, i looked on YouTube when I was going to get one for the kids but just got the iplay 50 when it was on sale around $250
Ulefone tablet (again I've never used) can take a bit of a beating as well. Look on YouTube

If you are able to find insurance i would imagine that it will be expensive
Another option, but it would require a lot of time and travel
Buy used tablets on the marketplace or Gumtree etc
That way they are cheap and can be dumped if damaged
