Ergonomic Keyboard Recommendations

Hi all,

I'm looking for feedback on ergonomic keyboards. I have found that regular keyboards are starting to give me wrist pain due to the unnatural position and constant typing required.

There seems to be various styles from Microsoft Wireless Sculpt, Split 2 Piece Keyboard, With Or Without Wrist Pad etc

I'm hoping to find people who have used multiple before I make a purchase as most are $60-$200

Would appreciate any advice.

The Microsoft Sculpt options look decent- semi-split and slightly tented.

But what will work for is highly dependent on the individual.

Don't use wrist pads- if you are using a wrist pad, there is something fundamentally wrong with your typing position. Your wrists should be floating above the desk, and your hands should be in a fairly straight line to your forearms, not kinked up at the wrist.

Kinesis make good ergo boards that are a lot more specialised than the Microsoft ones. Edit: Probably also a lot more expensive though.

    I like my k860

Takes about a week to settle in but very natural after that. Much more comfortable I found.

  • I was given a split keyboard many years ago while working in the public circus due to a wrist problem and I absolutely loved it.

One of my favourite things? The division had all of us using a special networking type software (horrible - no access to C drive etc, so many issues, but I digress). My area was just outside the conference rooms and I would regularly return to my desk to find total strangers using my PC.

That stopped completely after getting this keyboard! It seemed to freak people out.

Would 15/10 buy my own if I was ever in that situation again.

Or just switch the caps on a normal board to Dvorak. There is the added bonus that the person who sits down at the desk doesn't notice at first- watching them from a distance is really funny.

      • Wish I'd thought to do that!

  • I have the MS sculpt and the Lenovo Go. I really like the feel of the Lenovo Go. The sculpt is good too.

But seriously, just spend the money and get the K860; the others all require a dongle and they're fussy about the USB ports you put the dongle into (i.e. it needs to supply enough power and needs to be physically very close).

  • the others all require a dongle

I see dongles as a huge selling point over Bluetooth. Or at least the option to hardwire.
