$29 for Vodafone Pocket Wi-Fi 2 at DSE

90

Cheapest new price I've seen for the Pocket Wifi 2. It's the only-just-superseded one, locked to Vodafone, covers 850/900/2100 MHz, ie all the 3G carriers, once it's unlocked. Comes with 3GB data, 30 day expiry.

These are really useful broadband modems. The battery's good for at least 5 hours, the modem's easy to set up, and best of all - it's easily unlocked. Unlock codes cost $3 and up: http://bit.ly/RSRC02 ($3.03) Check to see if you can unlock it free on the Vodafone site.

In-store only, NOT online. It's pot luck if your local DSE shop has one in stock.

No stock anywhere in SE Melbourne. If you are not in desperate hurry for such a device it's better to wait for the WiFi Pro to come on special for $39.50, which it was just a week or two ago.

Edit: looks like hardly any stores have stock Australia wide

    • What advantages does the Pro bring for the $10 extra? I'm after a setup for my parents who want to be mobile (thinking 2 phones - one main one, one mostly idle one, 1 laptop, 1 tablet and 2-3GB/mo 3G access)

the Pro has a higher theoretical speed - 21 Mbps compared to 7Mbps. I've never seen much more than 1Mbps so the extra speed doesn't mean much to me.

Well maybe not on Vodafone, but on Telstra you will. When I posted the WiFi pro deal a couple of weeks ago I posted this result with a Telstra SIM in the device http://www.speedtest.net/iphone/347599686.png

12.94 down and 4.42 up isn't bad at all. You wont get those speeds on the wifi 2 device

The Pro is bleedin fantabulous!!! Been using it everytime Optus drops out or slows down here (cable)
The Pro is lightening fast - I am in Sydney South, bought it at DSE Menai for $39 and best mobile one I have bought, the kids are using their ipads on it and its not slowing it down at all. Get the Pro for $10 extra.

    • How do you know it's going to be on sale in just a week or so? source?

      • No, I said it was just recently on sale 1-2 weeks ago. Look back at previous threads, this thing always goes on sale for half price from dick smith, big w, Australia post, crazy johns and even Vodafone themselves.

        • Whoops thought it was a typo, thanks will have a scout at it.

  • I've done a bit of research but am still unsure as to the advantage of these over tethering with my S3. Is there any?

      1. For ppl with older mobiles that don't have tether function
      2. Don't want to rundown/want to reserve their mobile battery for more critical applications.
      3. Share 3G BB acc. with 5 wi-fi devices (I think mobile tethering only allows 1?).
      • Great thanks for your help!

I agree with the first 2 points but I do think you can set up a wireless hotspot with your phone and connect multiple devices at one time.

        • +1

Yeah, wasn't sure on that one as I've never needed to connect anything other than my laptop.

So wouldn't it slow down your mobile (& rapidly drain batt.) cause of all the connections to devices it has to process…?

        • Yep wifi hotspot, haven't tried connecting multiple devices either but assume you can. Thanks guys.

  • just wondering if anyone has purchased those unlocking codes off ebay? Looks pretty sus, but then again its only $3

    • +1

The ones listed here were legitimate http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81740

So if they claim they can unlock the pocket wifi 2 they will work

    • +2

I have. No worries. They emailed the code within 2 minutes- instant success!

is it possible to use this on my nexus 7 with OTG cable ?

  • Comes with 3GB of portable data. That's a deal in itself. My 2gb phone data cost about $10 so you're getting a portable device for like 17 bucks

    EDIT: but nothing in SA
