ALDI Wagyu Biltong - Can I Get Better / Cheaper ?

Just tried the Aldi Wagyu Biltong. It's the best biltong/Jerky I have tasted, moist, proper beef flavour, no chemically after taste.
Anyone else tried it, recommend anything better or is this as good as this gets for the price?

Hard to get good and cheap at the same time.

I like Barbel, in 1kg. I hated the Aldi stuff… Didn't taste like real biltong at all, more like jerky.

I know…. I had a little LOL at wanting good, cheap and Wagyu! The old rules of pick two generally apply.

    • I like Barbell

+1 my favourite/standard after trying them from aldi, now buy from woolworths when 20% off - 200g $20

      • If you go to their website, you get 10% off the first order.

I really recommend getting the 1KG bags, because it's not already cut up. To be honest the flavour is a bit different because the insides haven't been sitting in the sweated out (I guess?) juices of the meat but it's excellent, and a much better price.

        • thanks - $85.50 after 10% off is nice, but besides $95/kg being same as Woolworths after 5% off via discounted WISH when 20% off, 1kg is perhaps too much for my consumption rate unless sharing, though wouldn't mind tasting the unsliced difference, which is less convenient

  • Oh what, Aldi does biltong now???

This is the stuff you want from Biltong.com.au. They have frequent sales

  • I really like this biltong, which is $76/kg vs $111/kg for the Aldi biltong. I've only ever bought it from them in person, but I would hope that the online product is the same if you're not near either of their stores in Melbourne.

    • To be fair you're comparing normal beef to Wagyu.

  • Wagyu biltong is way overrated.

These guys have a couple of stores. I've been to their Lane Cove butcher, and they make their own in store and slice it when you purchase, so it's all nice and fresh, no preservatives or anything.

The Mango Chilli is the best, very tasty and moist, but also quite fatty.
One good thing about getting freshly cut biltong, it's all quite soft at first (even the leaner options) and then it dries out and changes texture over the next few days. Doesn't sound great but it's just another type of delicious

    • That’s one of the brands they sell at Aldi…

      • oh lol oops. the butcher is convenient enough that I've never really bought prepackaged biltong
i guess the same guys are also the answer to better/cheaper then

  • Springbok delights is the best I've tried. They are in Chatswood Sydney and have a website [https://www.springbokdelights.com.au]. A lot of the cheaper ones, like 4hunters put use low quality meat. Both are cheaper than Aldi.

Is biltong safe? It seems like a convenient protein source but I need to know I wont get mad cow disease or something? Especially for the overseas manufactured ones

    • I don't think overseas manufactured biltong is even sold here, is it?

It's air dryed meat, marinated in vinegar and salt. Should be okay

  • Have you any interest in making it yourself? I got a food dehydrator last month and made my first batch recently, it was cheap as chips.
