Is it true that there are people extracting gold, silver, copper, etc. from computer parts these days? Is there somewhere I can bring mine to them and get something back? Thanks
Where Do You Recycle Old Computers?

Nah, not thinking to do it myself. Just asking where they do the recycling then I can sell mine to them.
EWaste locations listed by local council or at Bunnings etc.
Depending on the computers, sometimes better off selling or even popping on buy nothing on FB marketplace.
And please 🙏 dont be throwing vintage tech to waste 🙄
I still regret binning my old Pentium 3 1Ghz based system (that CPU, 2GB RAM, Geforce 3 Ti 500). That was the perfect Windows 98 SE rig and I still kick myself for getting rid of it when I did.
I once went to the ewaste recycle place and saw them pulling apart Commodores and Ataris. I questioned them why they wouldn't simply resell them as is and they said they just didn't think about it.
Anyone dumping thinking someone is going to save them is kidding themselves. Pure wasted $$$

Stick it in a closet and get around to working it out later like the rest of us.
The key is to plan to drop it off next trip to officeoworks, then forget to bring it every single time you go to officeworks.
I find that the bi-yearly trip to the tip and driving past the electronics drop point is also a good reminder to do it next time.

You're not going to get money for recycling your E-waste.
Yes, there are small amounts of valuable minerals, but the value is still low and extracting them requires labour - which isn't cheap in Australia - and facilities that (as of 2020) we don't have here.
Rare metals recovery is done overseas. The value of the minerals covers the cost of logistics and pays the relatively low overseas wages, but nobody wants to do it here commercially.
Also why would anyone pay you when most people gladly give it away?
Agree^
Mint Innovation (https://www.mint.bio/) have built an ewaste biorefinery in Sydney.
Clever stuff with plans to process 3000 T of ewaste per year.I saw something on the abc i think? recently. There's one here and it can produce about $85k in gold a day from waste.
Maybe things have changed since 2020, it would be helpful to dig that up.
This is fairly informative.
So cool, hope I get a share selling them my old lappies.
Plenty of places you can drop it off these days. Your local council website should have details. You won't get anything for it though, even doing the sort of volume disposal I used to do the best you can hope for is free collection. Wasn't that long ago most places wanted you to pay them.

Yep, message me. You'll need to stump up $100 … upfront.
Else, OW is convenient.
There are e-waste social enterprises possibly in every capital city providing participation and employment to people living with disability.
OP just wants $$$
Probs gonna end up in the red bin now OP has found out it's worth nothing.
Pathetic
If you want the device to be environmentally disposed of or repurposed, many good options have been suggested.
If you want to get money for your e-waste, collect a full pallet's worth of components first. I'm talking hundreds of kilos of video cards & RAM, for example.
Otherwise, there are no takers. How much gold do you think is in a PC, and how much do you think is needed for it to be worthwhile for someone to buy it from you to reclaim?
Just Googled it- the estimate was 0.2g.
A$15. Logistics and reclamation costs are going to exceed that.

Another vote for FBM
Wipe the hard drive and put it on gumtree
lol, no. The proper processes are reasonably complex. Dodgy processes produce toxic fumes.
You'd either sell or take it somewhere for recycling(eg. Officeworks).
