    RIP Xbox :(

Why does it trigger people that PS is going to get MS exclusives? Who cares?

      • +2

Nothing has been confirmed yet though…

Why does it trigger people that PS is going to get MS exclusives? Who cares?

        Read below.

        • Oh, well that's concerning. Do we know why? I thought they didn't care about competing with Sony. I guess they can only be careless for so long.

          • +3

@Maths Debater: Exact reasons are unknown - more will be known next week - the below are rumours, of which some have been reported by (supposedly) leakers with a semi-accurate track history.

The reality is that competition is never a bad thing. A lack of competition makes companies complacent, lazy and non-innovative.

Is this to offset the chaos of the past week? Bad times :(

What are the comments above relating to?

Some rumours around that current xbox exclusives will be released on PS5 and fanboys are freaking out and terrified that it means Microsoft is moving more toward game development instead of hardware development.

      • +4

Fanboys? Being concerned about them no longer creating hardware is a valid concern.

Thanks to Xbox's great backwards compatibility Xbox hardware can play my games from over 20 years ago…that will no longer be possible if they no longer make hardware.

Not a matter of being a fanboy, it's about game preservation. Something MS has historically been good at and Sony have been dog shit at.

Also having Sony be the only option for higher end spec console gaming is terrible for competition.

        • +7

Sony already have the worst refund policy of any digital storefront and increased the price of PS+ just because they felt like it, no additional features.

If there is no Xbox Series X successor the PS6 could choose to go digital only and lock you into paying the obscene PSN pricing for all games.

          • @Agret: Yep, Sony have always been anti-consumer. Wait and see what they're like without competition.

What Microsoft is doing is slightly more complex than your explanation, and it has many implications, most of which are not good for consumers or the industry and the people it employs.

        But sure, FAnBoYS FreKiNG oUT.

Leaks have suggested that Xbox exclusives are going multi-platform.

These snowballed the last week or so basically suggesting all Xbox exclusives were going multi-platform.

If all exclusives are going to be on PlayStation, and MS have already expressed the desire to have GamePass on other systems there's little reason for consumers to buy Xbox hardware and therefore little reason for MS to continue to make Xbox hardware.

Phil Spencer tweeted yesterday basically not denying any of the rumours and would give more details next week.

If he had come out saying something like "we're still fully committed to the Xbox brand and hardware" I wouldn't be as concerned. But there was nothing like that.

After struggling with hardware sales for over a decade now, it really sounds like they're throwing in the towel. Sega 2.0

Yeah, but if there’s one thing nice-gamer-guy-Phil has demonstrated over and over again since he was put in charge of Xbox, it’s that you can’t believe a word that comes out his mouth.

Ok, now I get it. RIP Xbox. They're shooting themselves in the foot by doing that. May as well just pull out now.

      • +1

        Excellent thanks for that.

Just finished RE2 last night and bought RE3…. then they announce this a couple hours later. Oh well.

    • +1

You should be able to refund it since it's been less than 24hrs. Jump on Xbox support chat.

      • redeemed steam key from Greenmangaming, was only $13 and worth owning anyway i think. Just funny my timing

    • +1

REmake 2 is amazing. Don't get your hopes too high for REmake 3 to be anywhere near as good, it's still worth owning and playing, but it's so short compared to 2.

Microsoft also announced huge layoffs recently.

    • +2

Yeah, Xbox fans were touting how good for the industry Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard would be and couldn’t comprehend why the FTC tried blocking the merger. And the first thing Microsoft does once the merger is finalised is fire nearly 2000 people and well…we’ll find out next week.

nerfed Microsoft rewards and increase prices for online gaming services as well.
