Have it at home. Really good laptop and definitely worth the money

    • No hinge issue like their gaming laptops?

      • I'm mainly using it on my knees while on the couch. No issues whatsoever so far.

        • +1

Most use it on the feet.

    • +1

how long battery lasting with general usage or watching videos ?

    • Hello, I am interested in purchasing this laptop and want to ask these questions: how is the fan noise, the screen, battery life and build quality? If you can answer these questions, it will be grateful. Thank you

  • +1

If only it was AMD based though :(

    • but then you wont get the TB4.

i know AMD has better battery, but the even the best battery it will go down over time and at the end, dead. plus power banks are plenty juice now and power plug is not that rare (at cafe, uni, plane etc)

but TB4 ports will be there forever without degrading.

so, i think intel is better… just my 2c noob

      • But AMD has USB4? I want better battery life. I don't have any devices/docks/cables that even use Thunderbolt 3, nevermind 4.

        • +1

          ok understood your point. legit

      • +1

Yeah TB is legit next level. Would never buy a laptop without. I'm still using intel 9th gen laptop because with TB3 i'm getting USB4 experience since 2019. Why upgrade when i'm pushing 4k at 100hz and still getting USB3 transfer at the hub.

TB just keeps your laptop feeling new because all hardware moving forward will be compatible without you wasting time researching.

        • +1

yeah i regret getting MSi laptop with dumb usb c not even display delivery or basically just usb 3.2 spec with usb c face/port haha
battery, well yeah everyone want longer battery but as i said after 1-2 years they all will be the same, degrading like no tomorrow. so, short term priority or long term, your choice

When are we getting the Intel Core Ultras w/ Intel Arc?

I think that's why we're seeing 13th gen laptops going for cheap?

    • +4

13th Gen mobile is permanently on sale during 2024 because Intel are dumping the CPU's to OEM's at cost to keep market share

As the first gen tile architecture, 14th Gen fails against Zen 4 Phoenix so it can be skipped

15th Gen Arrow Lake is when Intel finally get back to par with AMD and will be the one to get

      • +4

Hah it's always the next gen when intel is finally back on top. This is what the rumours have said for like the last 5 years

        • +1

Zen 4 has been the superior mobile CPU for more than 6 months and yet supply of decent notebooks has been terrible

Rather than invest with Lenovo, HP and Dell on Phoenix designs, AMD have preferred to stuff around on the ROG Ally, Legion Go and B tier mini PC's

When Acer is the top OEM for Zen 4, something is seriously wrong

          • @Look Up: Yes sadly the issue for AMD has been supply for years. They make a good product but it is often hard to find in the laptop you want in stock

  • +2

How does the build quality of this compare to the Acer swift go 14?

    • +3

About six leagues above. Acer is literally bottom

  • +7

Finally, something that will keep the nits brigade quiet. HAHAHA!

    • +1

      It's rare….but nits approved.

    • Would it be enough nits to see the screen easily outdoors in the sun?

      • +1

Might need 500 for that. Even then, you won't know till you try it out.

      • +1

Now now no need to nit pik. :)

    • +1

Don't you get into the nitty gritty

  • Everything is good apart from Size, weight and abysmal sound quality. I would rather buy 13 inch version.

    • -1

Most consider 10 inches to be plenty.

  • Is this OK for high school student? It is marketed as Business laptop but I am not sure how different it is from student laptop?

    • +1

It'll be more than fine, the big battery is nice as is it's relatively low weight

May not be the best option if it's a Yr 7 since this is rather expensive.. get a refurb ex-corp laptop for half the price

      • What about for basic photo and video editing?

        • +1

It'll get the job done, but not enough RAM and weak iGPU (compared to dGPUs) for intensive video editing with advanced timelines and the such

But will be fine for basic photo and video editing

      • +1

Thanks mate. Son is in Year 10. Hope he will be responsible looking after this.
He had taste of Dell 13 Xps ad want something similar quality which is hard to get in cheaper laptop.
He had surface pro from ebay before which developed battery issues later. Hence I have given up on refurbished.

    • I'll probably get shot down but in layman's terms, and my opinion:
student laptop=pretty average/crap performance, probably decent battery life
Business laptop = longevity, good performance in multitasking, good battery life (no battery guzzling discrete GPU), sometimes more I/O.
Gaming laptop = similar performance in general usage, much better performance in gaming, multiple high res displays, worse battery life

      • +1

        student laptop=pretty average/crap performance…
Business laptop = good performance in multitasking,

        What 😂

        • +1

Prediction of being shot down substantiated.

I'm old now but when I was at uni "student" laptops were budget machines, lightweight with sfa RAM and garbage low power processors to squeeze decent battery life from a small, light battery. Good for word processing and a couple of browser tabs.

Business laptops were generally heavier, larger machines and significantly more capable.

Sounds like the lines are blurred now.

      • +3

Honestly I find the distinguishment of a 'student laptop' to just be marketing. MacBook Airs are advertised and touted as student laptops, but professionals use them as well.

Can also find Officeworks advertising a $2K LG Gram 16" as a 'student laptop', which is obviously way overkill for any student.

      • NAH man. Student = business in general terms.

Just market segmentation. They will just take same lappie and call it different or make slight changes and mark it up for well dressed businessman etc.

    • +1

      yesh it's fine indeed.

    • Business notebooks are USUALLY of a higher build quality than a consumer grade device.

Typically may come with better options.
Windows Pro is typical of business notebooks (i dont think it will make any difference for a student).
3 year warranty is also more typical for business notebooks.

Ultimately if you spec up a consumer grade device correctly its probably going to perform just as well as a business grade notebook. You are probably unlikely to see some of the really low end processors in a business grade notebook.

I wouldnt worry about it being touted as for business (if anything its generally a good thing, except when it comes to price).

  • +2

For the users up-to-date. How does this compare to a similar business grade lenovo?

Looking for build quality, reliable, portable 14" & under, with a healthy battery life, with good warranty support.

Mainly for multitasking/ productivity, nothing too resource intensive.

  • I have a ~1 year old MSI Summit Flip 14 Evo and recently have had issues with the fans doing really weird things, spinning to max from 0 instantly and the fluttering between 10% and 50% etc… really weird behaviour.
    My first MSI Laptop/notebook.
Never experienced before on any computer or laptop.

MSI Service seems to be fairly garbage. No idea what I should do to be honest other than taking to a local repair place and hopefully not getting scammed.

    • windows and MSI utility should give you insights into what the fan should do vde is doing, doesn’t sound like hardware issue, my lenovo with dedicated GPU card is the same, my work laptop with integrated on chip GPU fan runs quiet.

  • +1

I already have 5 laptops do i need to buy this ?

    • Buy now think later 😁

    • +1

You have 5 but do you have 6?

    • depends what those five are like …i have 2 laptops and this is better than both of them. just wish it had oled screen.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I am convinced by comments from my fellow ozbargain here to buy this laptop.

  • How does this IGPU compared to AMD IGPU 780m?

    • it's worse, 780M is around GTX 1650 performance I believe?

      • 780m is probably 5% slower than 1650

  • Yipee excellent customer service once more !

  • Why is this the 14 evo 0.5kg heavier than the 13 evo? Considering this but the weight is pushing me off.

  • whats a good alternative/option now that this is sold out?

  • What about this one: Acer Nitro V 15.6-inch i5-13420H/16GB/512GB/RTX2050

It comes with a RTX2050, under $1000 now, I bought one and it's pretty nice and clean
Although CPU is lower, and I guess the build quality is lower too?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-v-15-6-inch-i5-13…

    • Weight 3.96 !!

How would you compare the one you listed vs this?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829942

      • +1

I guess I didn't take in mind of the weight, but this one have better CPU performance and a dedicated graphic card can do a lot.
For processing images, better display in gaming, and many more.

And it's only $998, I think it's pretty nice deal.
