Nice, I missed the New Year's one by a few hours, so I'm glad I can pick it up now.
Been a long time since playing Final Fantasy, are they suitable for an 8 year old?
PG - Low level animated violence, Low level coarse language
So it should be ok, there was couple of permanent deaths in the party that can be upsetting.
And I assume 8 is better than 7 so get that one?
Both games are very well loved and people will fight over which is "better". Either will be fine. Both will be totally OK content-wise for an 8 year old - though there is a lot of text!
are they suitable for an 8 year old?
I would suggest start with the 9 one if it's on discount
9 is only $8.39. OP maybe you should add to the post?
So i never played final fantasy and wanted to start.. which version should i pick up?
FF7 on the play station that get me start on everything, the gameplay is a bit grinding with those random encounters battle (good to level up, but when you want to go somewhere quickly, it became tedious) .. the cut scene and story is fantastic. All the Final Fanatasy series are not connected so you can start of with any. I Think FF7 start off everything in the west
It can be a bit jarring to try play the older games if you're used to newer ones.. FFX was my first, has a PS4/switch etc remaster and holds up well today. Turn-based combat too so a little less 'intense' than the real-time battle systems of 7/8/9. I've played 8 over a few times, and is my fav just after X, 7 I couldn't get into (probably because I knew a lot of the story already by the time I tried so it wasn't as desirable to play.. I've played the first game of the remake and platinum'd it though).
9 is good, but for me, certainly less memorable.
Also if you like the pixel-art style older games, 1-6 all been remastered for a single purchase
You're going to get lots of differing opinions with that question. For me, I'll always suggest FFX as a first-timers Final Fantasy. In my opinion it has the perfect balance of Fantasy, Story, Combat, Side Quests and Visuals while still being newbie friendly. Also the whole game can be played without any external story/lore help requirements and FFX-2 is not necessary to enjoy the game.
Games like FF13 or FF15 are spread out among different media (FF13 requires a Wiki open for every story element while FF15 starts with a 2 hour long movie (Kingsglaive))
Some older games (7,8,9) didn't really age well in the graphics or combat areas although recent remasters have improved them.
1-6 would be recommended if you like the old pixel artstyle, start with 5 or 6 first if that's the case.
Finally, The FF7 Remake games are really awesome, and are recommended as well, however they aren't complete (yet) since Part 1 came out a few years ago, part 2 is coming out this month, and part 3 (the final part) is coming out later in the decade.
I would agree with this.
Fun fact I named my daughter Yuna because of this game.
Nice!
wow
FF VIII is my all time favourite game and I want to wish that one day I will see a remake. Unfortunately the likelihood as that vii….maybe ix will be remade but not viii
The Remaster with its 30fps/60fps variations is slightly annoying.. I still have my original discs though disc 4 won't play in my og PS3, runs okay in my PS2 slim.. But Wireless controllers have me spoiled.
I'm surprised that rumours around a FF9 remake are more prominent than an 8 remake.. I remember enjoying 9 but also i remember almost nothing about it. 8s story got cray and I actually enjoyed the junction system + Triple Triad is amazing lol.
Triple triad is the best card game by far. Tetra elemental had nothing on TT
Same price for PlayStation. Just picked up FF7 and FF8 on PS5 (PS4 version) as I already had FF9. Offer ends 15/02/24. Free for those who have PlayStation Plus Extra.
The pixel remaster games (ie 1-6) are all 20% off as well either bundled or individually. First time they’ve ever gone on sale since release as far as I can remember. Picked up the bundle as they worked out to be $15 bucks per game and have never played any of them except for 6. Started at 1 and just finished it after 12 hours. Quite nice to see how the series started. Very grindy and game is very bad at telling you where to go next, but the exp boost and no encounter toggle makes it more bearable.
Ah i thought the deal is for ff7 remastered as well.. i got the original one but thanks op i didnt know they did 8 too
