Pest Controller Ghosted Me

Hi Ozbargainers

Just need a little guidance if there’s anything I can do. I request Pest control on cockroaches on hipages (will prob won’t do this again) a pest controller called me and said he can remove the cockroaches in my house. After he treated it I asked him what if they come back and he said just call him and he will come back and reapply but guaranteed it will not appear anymore.

The next day I found one cockroach , and the next I found another. I messaged and tried to call him but I think he has ghosted me. He hasn’t picked up or replied to my messages. He even had a abn and Facebook but I should’ve known when I saw only one like.

Is there anyone I can report to about this ? If I could recoup some of the money back or I’ll just have to let it go and take my loss

    Do they die instantly or does it take days etc for the baits to work.

    I have no idea about cockroach pest control.

      Takes a few days for all cockroaches to be exterminated.
      This couple are probably dying reminents

    If he has no abn etc probably just sprayed some supermarket spray and took you for $300

    Did you get this in writing?

    If not, let it go.

      Yeah he wrote a invoice for me of what he did but the warranty thing was verbal

    Just because you see some still alive within the first week, doesn't mean he didn't do his job. It takes time for the baits to work. Plus if there are eggs that have been laid then you'll have to wait for those to hatch then eat the bait and die.

    Next time just buy some Advion gel and do it yourself. I had to take care of an infestation last month and have not seen a single one after a week of putting out the bait. Do not use supermarket sprays, they won't work and just kill a few and scatter the population.

    Thanks for this I’ll look into it. He didn’t put any bait all he did was spray the inside and outside of the house

      Do you know what he sprayed inside?
      If it was a non repellant with indoxacarb like doxem nxt, it would be fine and works like the gel bait.
      If he just did a pyrethoid based spray inside, then he didn't do a good job and you'll still have some that will survive because they run away from the scent of the poison.

        I wasn’t able to remember what it was I saw the massive bottle that he put in his spray bottle on his backpack. I should’ve asked. But he said it’s for all pests cockroach , spiders and earwigs that he will spray inside out. He didn’t let me go in for 3 hours after he finished and he only sprayed the sides/edges of the inside and outside of the house. Hopefully he calls back and I can ask what he used. Been trying to call him for 2 days

        I also noticed after the treatment 2 of the 4 cockroaches we saw were alive and upside down not sure if that means anything

          When they are sprayed you will see a lot of them come out and on their back. They are dead/dying.

    Pest controller did my workplace a couole of weeks ago. Next day heaps of dead cockroaches and a few alive but slow. Next week more dead. It takes time for the poison to work, especially if you have a lot.

    Been trying to call him for 2 days

    Oh wow, they didn't answer their phone on a weekend. I'm shocked, SHOCKED. Eh maybe not that shocked.

      It wasn’t a weekend, I did it on Wednesday and called him Thursday and Friday.

    It's a bit late now but if you need a job done properly you shouldn't get any cowboy off hipages, Airtasker etc. to do it. You should've looked up a reputable company with a lot of positive reviews.

    Cockroaches are extremely resilient, they can survive even after being sprayed.

    Oh, Hi Page tradies are to be engaged only if you have been recommended by some good friends. I had the same problem, I called a pestie and told him I have 2 level house and accepted the quote. When he reached he mentioned that he had not quoted for spaying outside the house perimeter for spiders, not for the roof cavity, and additional time for 2 levels and hence he jacked up the price almost double. We accepted the price as my wife wanted to get pest that weekend as summer was at its peak and relatives were moving in from overseas. After the job we did notice cockroaches were roaming and other bugs in the house, sent him pictures of those and he said it's summer so they do come from outside unfortunately he does not give 100% protection.

    Finally got another pest guy from the local area and he completed the job to our satisfaction at half the price he has been our pest controller for now almost 10 years and we have had no complaints thereafter.

    So avoid Hi Pages tradies as much as possible.
