Coles 15%+ Price Increase on All Items via DoorDash

Coles on DoorDash used to have 10% on top of their normal store price.

But I just checked it today and they add 5% on top - total of 15%.

The price increase appears for both the "Coles" and "Coles Local" stores.

Seems like the subsidy has dried up :(

  • This could be one for the ACCC Grocery enquiry.

Coles Plus @ $19pm offers free delivery for orders over $50 but at least you play Coles "normal" prices and get Flybuys in what you Order.

Lets do it…. and you'll find that the 15% mark up is to cover the platform fees.

Just like most shops are 'cheaper' to walk in and buy the food/product than to have it delivered by the platform.

My local fish and chip shop is about 20% more on ubereats compared to walking in.

Yeah it sucks. I really thought Coles was trying to do something good by having delivery with items the same price in store including specials. Even if the services was ran at a loss for now, it would have helped bring them into the 21st century and they could have found efficient ways of doing things for delivery later to make money, like having actual distribution centres built on top of their stores or whatever, instead of having the driver walk around the store picking things off the shelf.

Coles: best we can do is further price gouge but we’ll have cardboard POKEMON figures for you to collect real soon?

Adding extra steps between grocery retailer and home adds costs?

    Shocked!Shocked! I tell you.

  • Very easy way to fix this. Go to the shop and get the stuff yourself.

    • Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

  • In the past, cheap deliveries were basically subsidised by investors. Consumers effectively want free delivery at no extra cost.

Would you prefer a higher service fee instead?

As an alternative, you could consider either planning ahead and supermarket delivery or a service like Milkrun which, IIRC, has a fixed $5 fee.

    • Well it's not free delivery, they charged 10% service fee and a delivery fee or your monthly DashPass fee.

  • Maybe some smart lawyer making a stink about how illegal sham contracting really is.

No free lunch here, usually new migrants are sold off as dumbos doing such sham work.

I bet Door dash has an anti slavery page somewhere on their webpage.

They are abusing you now, stop using them.

  • Why not use milk run. You get reward points, standard delivery fee and I find their prices pretty good, only slightly more then instore on some items
