These are only really useful for planes these days smh

Anyone purchased one before? Still cynical these are genuine Apple lightning cables.

    • Hi!

I will upload some pictures of the product later.

      • +1

does it come with proper packaging? Thanks

      • What is the return policy if they turn out to be non genuine cables? Not too hard to go to an Apple store to get them checked.

        • I guarantee the authenticity of our product but I do understand the many concerns (e.g. the price is way cheaper compared to other retailers, etc). We do have a 30 day return policy. Each cable has its own serial number but unfortunately the online check tool doesn't seem to be compatible as it only works for devices and such. The only resource Apple provides online is a written guide on how to identify counterfeit cables.

I purchased some the last time they were posted here. I bought two 2m cables. They seem legitimate and work fine. However, they did not come in the packaging you would expect. Just the cables themselves coiled around the typical white paper/cardboard you'd find from a legitimate product.

      • Thanks for the info… so no packaging box… just the cable. Hm…

      • So 0.5m and 1m are posted as is but the 2m ones are shipped without the box since they are just over the 2cm letter guideline. We do this to keep the total cost low for our customers and pass on the shipping savings. Most people are more than happy with this arrangement but we do understand that some customers may prefer the original packaging so for multi-quantity / large orders we ship it through parcel post even if untracked letter postage is selected.

  • What a code.

  • Can we fast forward 5 years where USB C is standard and all these are in landfill?

    • +6

They won't be in landfill in 5 years because there are still Apple products using lightning being sold (air pods, keyboards, mice etc…). Also, on most planes, USB-A ports are still most common.

Deep down, Apple still doesn't want to get rid of lightning since they still want to milk Apple customers. USB-C cables are a mess, there are USB-PD cables with USB 2, 3, 3.2 gen 2, 3.2 gen 2x2, or 4. Then, there are PD 3.0 vs 3.1. Apple has released multiple versions of USB-C/USB-C cables (60W, 120W, and 240W rated).

      • This makes me sad, humans suck

        • Nah, you need factor in that the EU deadline is end of this year, so there will likely be a new iPhone SE this year and Apple won't stop selling iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 with lightning until September this year.

Furthermore, expecting people to throw away / stop using iPhone 14 or lower by end of 2028 is unrealistic. Not only everything costs more, but older iPhones have their uses. Throw away perfectly usable phones for the sake of needing to use only USB-C / USB-C cables is silly.

The reality is that Apple knows USB-C standards too well and this push from EU has led to Apple coming out with USB-C to USB-C cables which lack the e-marking chip. The reason is simple, cost cutting. This is annoying for Apple users who happen to own Macbook Pro(s) as well. Furthermore, if any household owns iPhone 15 and 15 Pros, there is a good chance different sets of cables might also be used (if they want USB 3.1 for the Pros).

It's the same for Android phones. You most likely get a USB-C/USB-C USB 2.0 cable with an Android phone, even if the phone is USB 3 capable and the included cable is generally a dumb cable which lacks the e-marker.

      • I agree. There are so many variations of USB-C cables that even I am getting confused. I can't imagine what the average consumer's perception would be.

I have a carplay head unit that will literally only work with genuine apple cables. Iā€™m happy to be the certifying body for ozbargain.

    • wow. that sux.
      what car is that

    • Likewise. Only genuine Samsung cables work with my Android Auto.

  • $16 for the 2 meter cable is very cheap. (Even though a $50 cable is expensive as it is).

    Hmm

  • If Shipping Fee > 0
    Then deal =! Ozbargain.
