Should I Hire a More Suitable Car for Traveling Long Distances?

Hi everyone, please be kind if my question is silly.

I'm planning to drive to Lithgow NSW from Sydney's inner west, with a passenger. It is about a 145km, 2hr10min drive one way, and return on same day. I'm just wondering if my current car, a 2019 Yaris hatch 1.3L, will be safe for a long-distance drive and mountain roads. Or should I consider hiring something more suitable?

Thank you in advance.

  • This is not even considered as a long drive. You will be fine. Just drive safe and take a break half way through if needed. Enjoy your drive.

  • Get roadside assist and worst case scenario you’ll get a lift home with the towie.

I'm damn near crying with laughter. I drive 115km each way to the office….

  • The yaris is a very dangerous vehicle, i wouldnt attempt to go more than 35kph. Over 10,000 people have lost their lives in the past 12 months from this deathtrap. Nothing less than a G-wagon with a brabus kit would suit the monstrous world record breaking 2 hour drive being attempted here.

  • Once??

Remember to keep left, and make sure the number on the big dial inside the car matches the one on the big signs next to the road (especially when there's vehicles behind you). You'll be fine.

  • 145km you haven't even left the metro yet….

  • Why would someone even own a car when they are not sure if it is capable of driving 145kms? It would have to be falling to bits, any car built in the last 30 years should have no issues with a drive like that

Think op is a toll (and a good one) just trying to get people to hate on small cars

Car is ok but will cost $70 in petrol.
Train is fine but it will take longer. Two hours or more from Penrith.
Why Lithgow? Are you looking at more affordable housing there?
It's on the other side of the Blue Mountains. No one is around and everything closes early.
Pack a spare tyre and some snacks.

Not much point in responding to OP as it was posted on 1st Feb so it's likely they have been and returned or decided not to go. They are still online here recently so I assume they survived.
@sticky8anana any feedback on how your car, and you as driver, managed?
