Did I Pay Too Much for Solar Bird Mesh Job ?

Hi fellow members,

Got into an argument with the wife and also feel bad myself about not getting multiple quotes from different suppliers - just getting an idea if I paid too much ?

Was quoted:

• Premium PVC-coated stainless steel mesh, aluminium mounting fastners are used to secure the mesh on to the panels: $750
(10 year warranty)

• PVC-coated galvanized steel mesh, stainless steel mounting fastners are used to secure the mesh on to the panels: $700
( 2 year warranty)

• PVC-coated steel wire mesh,
stainless steel mounting fastners are used to secure the mesh on to the panels: $650
( no warranty)

I went with the premium PVC coated one
House is 2 stories, about 28 panels ?
Job was completed in about 1 hour 45 mins - 3 pigeon nests , one egg removed, drains inspected

    Brisbane

    Hdpe plastic mesh
    2 pigeon nests removed
    20 panels
    Two story house

Paid $682 - thought it was reasonable through a fully insured specialist installer operating over 10 years and decently reviewed.

    Hope that helps

    • did you rehome the pigeons?

      • well i didnt take out the nests myself…so i will assume the nests were disposed of then the pigeons went elsewhere.

        • was just pulling your leg soz

I didn't know this product existed until today

          • @andresampras: way to make me feel bad haha

i was like man i hope this guy dont hate me, i thought we had a good rapport going!

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: LOL my dry humour doesn't always translate into text

Those pigeons are probably fine :P

edit: how's the renpho bike going? I've moved house and it's been in the garage waiting to be given a spot inside

  • where do the birds nest? under the panel or on the sides where it 'meets' the roof? Never had panels so didn't realise birds were a problem but good to know for future

under the panel yeah - at our place the panels are over the bedrooms and kitchen/dining areas so you hear them coo-ing in the morning and arvo/night and the sound is surprisingly penetrative

      • maybe the solid panels reflect the sound back down through the roof?

        • possibly - anyway was driving the misso crazy, and now i must say yeah it is much more comfortable without the incessant coo-ing pre dawn and into the night.

Couldn't you just nail a few rubber snakes around the place.

    • Or plastic gutter guard curled up and stuffed under?
      .

Money well spent if it's a good job. Better than getting up there yourself and falling off. The bottom edge is very dangerous to access without fall restraint equipment.

    • The bottom edge is very dangerous to access without fall restraint equipment.

This - gotta love when people will put you down for expressing concern about doing works at height without training and proper safety equipment.

  • Got into an argument with the wife

If I was spending $2k I would run it by Mrs Muzeeb first. So much easier that way.

On occasion it is easier to seek forgiveness than permission but I have a self imposed limit of about $500 for those.

It’s only $750 and the installer sounds like they do reasonably good work, you gonna roll the dice?

      • That makes sense. I thought it was a combined quote. My bad. Still at $750 Mrs Muzeeb gets a say in the spending.

Tell the missus you'll pay her $500 to do it - and you'll never have to speak to her again :)

  • So you paid 750 for people to climb up your double storey house and install the mesh.. .I think its pretty fair price in today's climate…
