Electrolyte for Fasting or Low Carb Diets That You Can Buy in Store?

So apparently the electrolyte you use when fasting or on low carb diets is different to the electrolyte you use when eating carbs or normally - and not just different in that it doesnt have glucose in it - but also a different formulation and ratio of electrolytes as well. 🤷‍♀️

I'm having trouble finding one I can buy in a shop instead of just on the internet.

Hydralyte is my go to normal electrolyte because it's so easy to find and is easy to dose.

What electrolyte do you like for low carb or fasting?
Do you know any shops who sell it in store?

    salt

Thats sodium and chloride but there are others you need:
      potassium
      calcium
      magnesium
I think there are also some others? carbonate? phosphate? Something like that

Sugar free gatorade or potassium enriched salt.

All those drinks are are salt, potassium phosphate and enough sweetener to hide the taste of those two anyway. I imagine you can hunt around and find whatever balance you want.

    • Id prefer to avoid sweeteners, especially the synthetic ones

The problem with lite salt or heart salt is the lack of magnesium and calcium i think? People use it as an ingredient but not as a whole.

Id prefer easier dosing than my own mix

Shouldn't need to top those up, but I'm thinking of general rule of thumb. You don't lose magnesium/calcium while exercising but you still need them as part of your diet, so if you're not getting them elsewhere (particularly while fasting) I guess that makes sense. Or just take supplements for those.

Misread the title as "electrolyte for farting"

It's a temporary thing while your kidneys adjust to the lack of insulin, usually only need to supplement electrolytes for ~ 2 weeks (but people just call it the "keto flu" if you don't) … Can use Avocado as a supplement as your body gets used to expressing the fat burning proteins from your genes!

After that, not needed as the body becomes used to storing and drawing electrolytes from your bones (even when fasting) ;)

The electrolyte that will be most lacking on Keto (once the body is tuned - can take up to 3 months) is sodium, so just salt your meals :P

Oooh tell me more, i'd love to see the evidence on this one.

    • Me too, its just advice ive been given? 🤷‍♀️

      • So there's no evidence purely hearsay….
