I was thinking perhaps if various outlets (HN, DSE, Officeworks, JB) had the ability to display location stock levels as reported by staff.. I had a look at the forums quickly but couldn't see a similiar suggestion (unless I'm blind and missed it).
For example with the recently JBHIFI sale, I went to my local (dandenong) store and was told by the sales person (no stock and none of the other stores have it)…
I then posted my results and was told by another user that the city store has them - so I visited the city 2 days later and bought what I needed - I was also told by the staff member they had 42 in stock showing.
I thought it would be great if users could report stock levels for outlets that have locations available to them.. Ie not in stock, in stock (<10), in stock (<20) etc etc, 'not sold at this location' (turns out nunawading JBHIFI do not sell camera bodies and only sell kits btw).
A status could be provisional until enough users respond— ie once 5 people click 'not in stock' it becomes a verified status… Clicking on the status also shows the user and date and any additional notes entered by users (such as who to speak to, whom was spoken to etc)…
I think this would save us ozbargainers having to call around shops trying to find stock, and also give those sales reps in those stores some peace (sometimes when you call up they reply 'your like the 100th call today for product xyz'… etc.

We recently added power users to OzBargain. At the moment, there are around 19 power users who would be able to edit any deal especially deals where people can report stock changes. We plan to add more power users so deals can be more collaborative instead of relying on the OP or a moderator to make changes.
