Hi all,
Helping some older relatives move off their $100/m 50mbps plan with Telstra to a company which doesnt actually rip them off (probably going to move to the 100mbps Tangerine, which is double as fast, but still cheaper haiyaaa). Have a couple questions please, any advice would be much appreciated.
1- They currently have a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 with voice backup (model LH100) - reading up on previous posts, it wasn't 100% clear if this modem would work on Tangerine with HFC - can anyone confirm that this has worked for them recently?
2- WIFI signal is pretty poor in the house, as its double bricked, and router/modem is on one side of the house. WIFI extender hasn't worked, so we're looking at the mesh option. If the above Telstra Modem can be connected to Tangerine, can we use that as a mesh system if we buy a few points?
3- They also want to keep their landline. If we use the Tesltra Modem and switch to Tangerine, and add their $10/m phone plan, would that work fine?
Thanks so much in advance
1) The internet will work with the Technicolor modem, but you will need the manual and follow the instruction to change the login and password etc used. This part of the modem is NOT locked down.
The VOIP part is locked to only work with Telstra. You do not have access to the setting to change it when you change RSP's for the voice part only.
2) For MESH you will have to use google as the modem is an ODM model that telstra buys and puts their name on. No one would buy this modem, but as Telstra "give" it away people get them.
3) For a voice service (not landline anymore) you will need a new modem with VOIP support as the modem VOIP is locked to telstra. The new modem if you pay enough will have good MESH support.
