Samsung 55" The Frame QLED 4K Smart TV (2022) QA55LS03BAWXXY $1048.94 Delivered @ Samsung EDU via App

1040

I've been looking for the frame to go on sale for months now, and although there is a similar post on Ozbargain for a 65" frame it is worth noting that the 55" comes down to just $1,104 when you are signed into the 'Education store' through the samsung app or website

The 65" would have been way too big for my space, so, wanting to make others aware of this deal who may be in a similar spot. Further to that, when you purchase the tv through the samsung app you get an extra 5% off. So I ended up getting the TV for a steal at $1,048. Better than buying second hand off marketplace any day of the week.

These had sold out the other day but are back in stock and ready for pre-order, dispatching after the 30th of Jan

Hope this helps others, and go easy as its my first post!

How are the quality of these "frame" TVs?

    • I would like to know too, I’m not fussed on the slimness or wall hanging, I’m just looking for a new TV to replace my older Samsung.

      • +19

If you aren't fussed about the look don't go for this.

Frame is geared for aesthetics, it looks much nicer than a big black rectangle on the wall, but the picture quality isn't the best. I love mine.

        • +1

          compared to what tv though?

      • +1

Get another TV. Probably same quality for lower price. The Frames also have a matt finish to make the pictures look more like picture art.

    • +13

My brother has the 65 Frame TV and I own a Sony Bravia of the same size.
I have to say, the frame tv looks great on the wall, it's aesthetically pleasing when not in use.
The quality though is very far off from the Sony in my opinion.

I feel like the Frame is best suited where it isnt the main screen of the house.

That's just my take on it.

      • Sony is a pretty high watermark though; I dont think anyone does TVs as well

        • -3

Yeah, i don't think the Frame is a fair comparison against Sony Bravia. Probably need to compare one of Samsung's OLEDs

          • @jonow83: Sorry, what? LED vs OLED is NOT a reasonable comparison. They're the same technology, let alone are they remotely remotely within the same price range.

    • +4

It's great to look at, has a matte finish so not much reflection.

Screen itself is okay, there are better TVs if you are after a screen.

Frame is a different category which I personally won't compare to anything else. It's an overall package, not just a screen.

    • +6

I've had this for just over a year now and came from a comparable Samsung non-matte TV.

Given the light from a neighbouring window is hitting the Frame TV, I absolutely love the matte finish and quality of the screen. The Frame aspect is a nice touch and does add to the aesthetics but we only really turn it on when guests are coming over.
It definitely tricks people into thinking we just have some art hung on the wall, especially now that we bought a wooden frame for the TV itself.

      Would highly recommend.

    • +2

Very average contrast, HDR peak brightnesses, PQ EOTF tracking and grey uniformity. Otherwise, not bad for the price: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/the-frame-2022-qle…

      • That ain't a bad score. Would be curious to see what people would consider a better tv for the price.

    • +1

I have this exact model. I love it - no issues with quality. If you are a TV snob (and no judgment if you are), you will likely find fault with the blacks not being deep enough, and perhaps the reflectivity of the screen. However, as someone who cares about aesthetics of the TV as well screen quality, it's a fair compromise to have this TV looking this good. I have it mounted on the Samsung easel stand, and it looks fantastic in the middle of the room. Would definitely buy again, especially at this price.

    • My 85'' model has trouble with backlight bleeding. I can't be bothered to ask samsung for support again (tv arrived bent, took several months to have it repaired but IMHO the technician didn't do it correctly and damaged the panel during installation)

Other than that, it is pretty good. Matte finish with timber-looking frame sitting neatly on the wall with no cable visible at all - that looks great.

    How come Samsung wants proof?

    • +1

Apple thinks I am a real student

      Are you though?

      • -5

It is $250 too much. Seen it at Gerry's toy store, same price at JBGuys.
As much as it saves wall space it has a huge box to drive it.
Not really a gloss box to kill ones brains with dumb movies but something to stare at without getting too tired.

    • Asians take education seriously

      • Sounds like. But students supposed to study not collect artworks.

A couple of years back my kids told me they can get xbox series X on MS student special. I then started a scalping operation.
(They did not get a Xbox.)

These deals from Samsung should be tagged [Students] or something then.

I've just wasted some time contemplating the deal.

      • +16

If you had read the title where it says Samsung Edu, it would have saved you some time.

That's why education in this country is very important

        • +5

There was no need for that bitter response.

Every other deal is marked with some [tag] despite stating what the store/source of the deal is.

So people can grasp things right away or filter out certain types of deals. Because, as any whizz kid like you knows, that's the main purpose of those tags!

          • +3

@pizzaguy: It was a joke man, easy! No harm meant

OZB doesn't have a filter to list another store, treats all Samsung stores equally.

            • @abs898: On all samsung stores, this deal is also available to people whose workplaces have access to the samsung partnership program. (Often student and partnership get the same deals, but not always).

      • +1

Hi mate - JB may well match the student pricing (that's what I did when I bought mine, and they didn't complain or ask for proof of being a student).

    • +1

Thats an easy one.. No actual student would be buying a frame TV!

    • Apple doesn’t care. People find better price than Apple Edu somewhere else.

      • +1

        That's not true.

Better prices happen, but often Edu store has a better deal.

Bought 85’’ frame tv with bonus frame, bonus $800 jb gift card and 15% off speaker promotion in may for my home theatre, totally love it.

    • +7

Frame for home theatre sounds like such a weird choice. Wouldn't you want something with a better panel? Who cares about the frame when it's not in use if its for your home theater.

      • +6

Actually it’s a sunroom with lots of light, so the matt finish screen looks much better without reflection.

        • Fair enough! Would love to see a pic of your setup!

          • @ViperAMD: Same! I have the 55" but the 85" would be a great idea for my next place.

        • wouldn't a dedicated home theatre room have blinds to block out the sunlight usually?

      • Yeah i agree, for a home theater? Would have been so much better off with another TV

        • Not much choice if you are after a matte screen

          • @calcium: I guess the point is, if it's a true "home theatre" you wouldn't want a matte screen.

    • Hi, May I ask when did you get your 85'' frame please. I am looking to get one and the deal you are getting seems quite decent. I was unable to find this deal on OZBARGAIN.. Thanks.

      • Hi, I purchased my tv in may 2023. It’s not on ozbargain, I was casually browsing tvs on jb and saw a pop of $800 bonus gift card.

        • Thanks, how much did you pay for the 85inch TV pls?

  • I'd like a new tv, but I work away from home, would this be a decent tv to purchase now and keep stored for use in a few months time? Tv noob here

    • This one stores just as well as any other TV :p but really, it depends so much on what you want. As the above comments have suggested, it's not gonna blow you away with quality. But unlike other TVs it makes for a nice decoration when you aren't watching it, and when you are, it's decent. Not bad, not amazing.

      • Thanks mate

    • There's no best before date in it. So you are good to store it in a dry shaded place with no direct sunlight.

      The box missed storage instructions.

      • Thank you

        • But on a serious note, technology changes every few months. Samsung's new range is in and this will be 2 ywars old, nothing wrong with that especially from this price point.if you don't care about the frame aspect and need a better TV, there are other options and I recommend to wait.

          • @abs898: But the newer tech will have a new newer price. You will wait another year to get this EOY sale price.

            • +1

@flashi007: I did say nothing wrong at this price point.

    • Unenergised electrolytic capacitors which this tv no doubt has do actually have a used by date. For industrial spares, there needs to be a capacitor reforming schedule otherwise you go to use the spare and it goes pop. But we are talking a couple of years not a couple of months.

  • I recently stayed in a hotel which had one of these frame TVs. The picture was on which was nice but the TV on picture mode was getting very warm. It was warm to a degree that made the little hotel room very hot. I had to turn it off. Not sure if this is the case for all of them or not.

    • +1

Always on will do this, wonder what the power consumption is like. given the insane price of electricity nowadays, this is the literal definition of luxury.

      • I'm somewhat sure they have motion detection and turns itself off when nobody's in the room. Can't confirm as I'm on the lookout for one but yet to pull the trigger.

        • looks like there is which makes sense. Samsung themselves state about 30% power usage compared to when it's "on" tv mode.

So it's still an increase in consumption, but maybe not too much.

        • +1

I have mine set up with motion detection - hardly uses any power when it's on 'frame' mode (ie displaying artwork). You can also set it up with a timer so that the motion detection only switches on during certain hours.

    • +2

This is what bothers me about this. Somewhere on another thread, I asked, and an owner replied that on picture mode it almost uses as much power as when it is switched on at low brightness.

Seems like a phenomenal waste of energy

      Edit: here it is

The power consumption actually ties to the brightness of the screen.

For my 2022 75" model, when changing the brightness in art mode, the power consumption is as followed:

      Darkest: 47W
      Middle setting: 78W
      Brightest: 210W
      Normal TV mode: 96W

The darkest setting is pretty much unusable that you can barely see the image. With the middle setting, while it's usable for me during day time, I prefer 1 step brighter which brings the power consumption to 93W, which is pretty similar to the normal TV mode. So from a power consumption perspective, it's pretty much all about the brightness of the screen.

      • +5

So it's using 2.2kWh per day, that's 815kWh per year. At 30c per kWh that's $244 per year. Or $2440 a decade. Support your local economy and just buy some real art 😁

        • +1

I have one, you can turn it fully off by holding off for a few seconds. I only have art mode when people are coming over or I feel like it, I know whats the point then, it still sits almost flush against wall and looks nice.

        • how did you calculate 2.2kwh?

          • @prankster: 93W = 93Wh/hour (watt hours per hour = watts)
            = 2232Wh/day (24 hours in a day)
            = 2.232kWh (1000 watts in a kilowatt)

    • Those internal rooms in cruise ships that do this too for the virtual balcony are the same. They're great to dry clothes…

  • Love my 55 inch Frame. Paid just over A$1,300 in December, which was a decent price at the time and included a 10% discount from the app, so definitely think that this price is a good deal.

  • Think this is ATL?

  • +1

    I have the frame 42 inch .
Purchased it about 4 years ago so I had a tv in holiday house , but mostly had it as a "decoration" .
Now this is our home and it gets used every day.
My husband went from a massive tv in a massive room to a smaller everything. He seems happy with it.
I like that its picture turns on when someone walks past it (so acts as a night light) then it turns itself off again when there is no movement. The sensor doesn't react when a pet walks past it.

    • +1

Thanks so much about the info on the tv not reacting to cats. Very useful.

I ordered one of these last week, just waiting for it to arrive.

  • What’s the free / easiest way to become a student? See these EDU deals pop up that whip the pants off the EPP store.

  • Can we use a loyalty discount for this tv on samsung website?
    Its advertised for $1299 there.

    • Just tried, didn’t work

  • It looks really nice when mounted high up on a wall. Didn't notice it's a TV until music video started playing.

Guess less appealing if just sitting on a low TV unit.

  • I plan to get one this year as i have horrible glare in my living room.

While its not the best quality screen, i have a BIGW eko tv and only ever knew my parents 16 year old samsung, im sure it will be an upgrade

    • Massive

    • i have a 2018 55" HiSense TV - would this be upgrade i'll notice?

  • Just ordered the 65” through the app for $1,210.44

    Great price!

  • I have this in my living room and it's been great. I also used Etsy to buy some frame arts for cheap too. Plus, you can download Stremio in the Samsung TV OS now so you wouldn't need an android/google tv to get the app and sail the high seas.

    • links?
how does this frame art work into the tv?

  • Would this be a good TV for PS5?

  • Do you need to be able to access the edu email? i.e does Samsung send corro there for the purchase? I saw Dell edu deals you can just make one up to get a coupon code.

EDIT: yep, sends verification email. will try the UTAS offer above!

  • Noting that Samsung just announced the 2024 models at CES the other week, is it worthwhile waiting for the new models?

I’ve read that there’s a lot of issues with the motion/light sensor with this model when there’s the bezel attached and I’ve ‘assumed’ that they would have fixed it for the 2024 model. But you’d think they would have actually stated that in the press release.

    • +1

Haven’t had an issue with my 2020 model using a bezel

  • Can somebody please check the price of Autorotate stand on edu?

    • All 3 designs cost $449.25 ea.

  • Looks like this is out of stock again. I can only see the 32" & 85" in stock. The 65" shows as out of stock. The 55" does not appear at all.

    • Try manually search in the app.

  • I've got the Q70c as the frame was too expensive at the time, the frame would've been better for anti glare but the sole reason I bought this TV was for the thin panel, the 55" TV fits between 2 bedroom doorways in my kitchen area and doesn't intrude the space when walking past.

I'm surprised their isn't more thin panels available Samsung is really the only game in town for this price point.

  • How is everyone thinking about concealing the one connect box so that the cable can't be seen while wall mounted?

    • yeah i was about to say, where does the cables go (like when you look at this photo - https://images.samsung.com/is/image/samsung/p6pim/au/feature/114498378/au-feature-the-frame-ls03a-390919062?$FB_TYPE_A_MO_JPG$)

and whats this "one connect box" ?
      https://i.pcmag.com/imagery/reviews/07I6rZNvLAs83i5yWFCAHoP-…
Is this acting as the device where you plug all your cables and then this goes into the tv with 1 cable so on the actual TV there are no connections because it goes through this "one connect box"
and if so, does that mean the power of the tv goes through this "one connect box" too?

      • +1

Yes otherwise it would be a two connect box ;) … when I saw my first frame TV the thinness of the connecting cable was impressive or scary (depending on your point of view)

    • +2

heres an example of my 55" 2021 frame tv mounted on a double brick exterior wall recently. Clean AF.
