Acer Nitro 5 15.6-Inch i5-12450H/16GB/512GB SSD/RTX4060 $1299 Delivered @ Acer Australia

480

Model: AN515-58-53RF / Part: NH.QM0SA.002
Same model was available from Harvey Norman during the Boxing Day Sales for $1398 & 10% Back as GC + Delivery.

Specs on the Acer Store listing says the RAM is DDR4, however the product listing on the Acer website specifies DDR5 SDRAM for this model number, so I'm inclined to think the store listing specs are a misprint.

$1300 for 4060. Nice. Alder Lake CPU is also decent enough for that GPU.

  • +4

Ahhh…. that FHD 45%NTSC screen again? If it changes to a QHD 100%sRGB, then it's not a bad deal.

    • +3

The GPU will struggle with games on QHD as many will use this full resolution on games. I think Acer is protecting themselves from disappointed customers.

      • +1

        Yeah, no point overspeccing something

        • +1

Their marketing strategy is raw hardware on an average quality built, fast screen 1080p gaming laptop. People don't understand that if you want to synchronise everything to be of a 'quality' gaming machine, they'll be paying 'at least' twice the price.

    • Generally is pretty easy to change the screen on this gaming laptops.
Doesn’t cost more than 200~ and you get a great screen when you as well are picking it.

The materials of this Nitro aren’t that good but at this price, that GPU and not bad CPU is a really bargain.

      • The issue is that the 40 pin LCD output hardware on the motherboard still may not be compatible with the QHD screen, considering it is a hardware fit

  • +2

Binglee deal was around this price and came with i7.

    • I'm unfamiliar with the later generation i5s, would it be the bottleneck on this system?

      • +1

For Competitive CPU-intensive game prolly. Not so much for other games i think. The downside of this model is the screen color gamut which is pretty bad.

  • Great price and a good combination, I have one a few generations old now. If you’re looking for the best price to performance then this is up there with the best, it compromises on build quality though, don’t go near it if you hate creaky chassis.

    • +1

That’s what the WD40 is for

Is anyone ever satisfied when it comes to deals on a laptop. All I ever see is complaints about ips screens or refresh rates or “oh no it’s ddr4 not 5” seriously what do you guys need for it to please you all. Under $1000 for a 4060 with 100000hz refresh or is that still too expensive 🥱

    • +6

Would you prefer that people not point out possible shortcomings?

      • +2

I’d prefer people just be satisfied with sale. If you can find me another laptop with better specs for the same price then I’ll understand

      • +1

Also you can’t point out shortcomings on a sale item. That would be like complaining there’s a dint on a car that’s been marked down. It’s the whole point of it being on sale, because it’s older

    • +6

It's OK - you have low standards

Any laptop over $1K with an FHD 45% NTSC screen is borderline garbage - it's the one visible component you are using 100% of the time

On gaming laptops, Acer and MSI are the best at using these poverty spec screens and then marketing the 144Hz refresh rate as "gaming spec"

      • -3

It’s not about standards, it’s about take a discount and be happy with it, instead of nit picking because it doesn’t have windscreen wipers to keep away the dust on the screen

        • +4

It’s not about standards, it’s about take a discount and be happy with it,

          Yes it is

Discounts are offered, the final purchasing decision is made by the individual

There are plenty of people who buy shit and overpriced laptops everyday - that's why Harvey Norman still survives

This is not a Hardly Normal store, this is OzBargain

      • Its not garbage. Its about budget gaming PC's being fit for purpose. You could say the same thing about the keyboard as its the only tactile component you are using 100% of the time. They arent premium components but its damn well not garbage it works fine in most situations.

        • I got the predecessor RTX3060 & 10th gen i5 for $500 second hand. Can't complain for the money and the good thing is that the depreciate quickly due to its mediocre build quality. Excellent value for money

          • @vinni9284: Build quality is fine, I bought mine on sale but full price from Acer direct (as I didnt want to get it from HN as … they are (profanity))

Yes, its not nearly as good as my work elitebook but for the price its fine.

    • Literally the one component you are looking at all the time when buying these products.

  • +3

Upvoted because you don't have to deal with scumbag HN and great specs

  • Possible shortcoming:
Not sure about this model, but previous gen with 11400H and RTX3060 didn’t have thunderbolt (only a 5Gbps USB-C port) - so could only connect one extra monitor via the HDMI port.

    • -2

Also has 3 less nits than the other models screen

    • +3

I've double-checked the model details. According to the spec sheet and product manual, this one does have a USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 4 port, supporting displays. The manual explicitly says that the port supports up to 2x 4K displays, or 1x 8K display.

    • +1

There were two models with exact same specs but one had Thunderbolt so it was a matter of buying the right one. Same price too or it was a few dollars difference

    • I use Acer Nitro5 AN515-56-58EE i5-11300H 2.6-3.1GHz(turbo4.4) 16(-64)GB RAM/512GB M.2 SSD, GTX1650
      & has Thunderbolt. I can use 2x 4K via HDMI + USB-C/DP (regular via hub). I added 8GB RAM + 2nd M.2 + SSD (easy to upgrade)
It's great value for money for $720. I bought 2nd for the family <$700 as new.
*I still prefer desktop with silent i5-6600 configuration, (no GPU with 2x 4K monitors, used 3 before I installed M.2 which messed up the 3rd monitor, but 2x Dell 4K is enough)

  • Anyone know how many nits the screen is on this one? Just bought a similar Acer (16 inch though and 4050) but unopened and could return thanks to Officeworks and their great return policy…

Anyway it has 400 nits. This one?? Thanks.

    • +2

Hard to tell for certain, given many online reviews for these Nitro's don't mention the exact model number, and those few who do seemed to have different model numbers from what I saw. It seems like it might be 300 nits or so on average? Some reviewers mention higher, some lower, but I'm not sure if that's from manufacturing variation from a low end screen, or different models getting different screens.

    • +1

The RTX 4060 is a big increase from the 4050. So if there isn't much price difference, I'll return it IMO

      • yes and no, it depends on the wattage of each GPU in the laptop. There could be a smaller difference if the 4060 is power limited less than the 4050.

        • The 4060 has 2GB more than the 4050. Plus it's not much more powerful than the predecessor 3060. Nomenclature rather than raw power increase

    • +1

Have the Acer 16 with 4050 for my son. Runs great and the screen is fantastic - 16:10 too. Not your usual Acer bottom of the barrel screen like the cheaper Nitro 5's like this one have. Also the cooling on the 16 seems a lot better too, it is heavy though 2.7KG ish. Fine for a stay at home gaming machine.

Personally I'd take the better screen and cooling (and AMD cpu) over a faster GPU and less of everything else

      • Thankyou so much! Btw you are correct it's bloody heavy but I would not be moving it too often.

A better screen probably better than a slightly better graphics card….

Not to mention the AMD CPU being superior.

Thanks again for confirming what I suspected.

    • +1

Beware those who do not freely advertise their nits…

  • Since every brand 2024 models already released at CES, should just HODL to see further current models price drop once the new ones arriving.

        That's showing your age 🤣

        • Hmm, remembering something from 1998 makes me old?

          • +2

@Mondorock: Yep. Many millennials never heard of CES or even SEC for that matter

  • Only 4 core CPU :(

  • Considering getting this for CAD software as well as uni, portability is a non issue mostly moving around the house. Anything else in the same price range that would suit better? any help would be a big thanks!

Before I bite the bullet on the i5 in the original post, is the i7 with the lesser 4050 better value for the extra $60?

    • too late, already OOS

      • More looking at comparison between the two and could be through different suppliers.

        i7-13630 & 4050 or
        i5-12450 & 4060

  • How is this compare to FHD Core i7 13620H 16GB/1TB RTX 4060 $1797.00? $500 more expensive but you got Core i7 and 500gb extra storage, is it worthed?

The lenovo one seems to have TGP 115W Graphics, how about the Acer one?

    • +1

      Stick this on your wall:

      2050 4GB: sub $700
      3050 4GB: sub $800
      3060 6GB: $900 - $1K
      4050 6GB: $1K - $1.1K
      3070 8GB: $1.2 - $1.3K
      4060 8GB: $1.2 - $1.3K
4070 8GB: no deals available, most overpriced 40 series mobile GPU
      3080 Ti 16GB: $1.8K
      4080 12GB: $2.6K
      4090 16GB: $3.3K

If the pricing is not even close to the above and has no significant extras like an OLED screen, hard pass and keep looking

      • Thank You, and seems like the Acer graphic card has bigger TGP 140W, is this correct?
