Breville Bambino Plus (Various Colours) $499 Each + Delivery ($0 C&C Select Stores/ in Select Stores) @ Harvey Norman & Amazon

130

Easily brew café-quality coffee at home without taking up too much space in the kitchen, thanks to the Breville The Bambino Plus Espresso Coffee Machine. Its small footprint, easy-to-use control interface, and fast heat-up times make it an ideal brewing option for small yet busy households.

I'm thinking of grabbing this after wanting a smaller espresso machine with a filter Breville. I've had a Gaggia Classic, Breville BES980 but swapped to a filter. I really want to have both.

Also now available at Amazon for same price.

Make sure that after you buy any Breville espresso machine you take full advantage of Breville's current promotion which is gift with purchase (2 bags of coffee beans) and up to $400 cash back on coffee beans via https://www.beanz.com/au/en/coffee.html (a collection from the most popular Australian roasters including seven miles, St. ALi, padre, etc…)

Redeem and learn more via: https://earn-cashback.breville.com/en-AU

    Promotion from 26/10/23 to 31/01/24

the beans end up being roughly the same price as your occasional coffee supplier that posts on ozbargain

I recently bought a Bambino Plus and certainly made use of the 2 free bags of coffee (I was sent Seven Miles' Cat's Pyjamas, which was amazing) but opted not to get a subscription with Beanz.

According to my math, 2 x 250g bags every 2 weeks (Barista's Choice subscription, for a bit of variety) for 2 years, even with the cashback maxed, would still cost $1466.80. That's ~$62/month, or ~$62/kg. Am going to stick with the deals posted on OzB for around $33-35/kg from various roasters. Even though the roasters on Beanz will likely be a lot better, I'm not sure they're worth paying almost double per kg for.

      Anyone else agree/disagree?

Recently bought Bambino plus too, still learning but enjoying it so far.

Just to add to your comment and a different point of view. Assuming $20 per bag of 250g (for simplicity as they range from $13 to $26) and you subscribe and purchase 80 bags in 2 years to maximise the cash back ($400) (you can adjust the number of bags/frequency to do this). You get a total cost of $1600 - $400 = $1200 for 2 years worth of coffee. $1200 / 24 months = $50/ month but it'll be $50/833g and converting to kg will be $60/kg.

If we go further and use the cheapest ($13 for 250g) we get $32/kg and for the most expensive bean ($26 for 250g) we get $84/kg with the cashback factored in.

You don't get any benefits buying over 80 bags in the 2 years, so I used that as a max limit. This will give you 833g of coffee per month and depending on your dose that's about 1-2 coffees a day. I'm tempted to sign up as that suits my consumption needs and having multiple small bags should result in fresher beans and being able to try new specialty beans with free delivery to find what I like is a bonus. If you were to purchase for example, a subscription for Humbler blend at Proud Marys directly it'd be $24/bag delivered, but $20/bag on beanz. Whether it's worth it would be up to the individual, as some might be happy with 1kg of beans at Woolies for $20. Just adding my 2 cents and hope this helps some ppl.

    • Did anyone receive their beans? It's been about a month and nothing…

  • does anyone know the best way to clear the blocked filter? I have the bambino plus which has worked perfectly. howeve, recently the double wall filter is blocked. I have tried to use boiling water to clear the blockage and also the needle coming with the machine, neither worked.

    • You can maybe use the steam wand to blast it, but also if your machine came with this tool https://www.breville.com/us/en/parts-accessories/parts/sp000… then there is a needle on the capped end that can poke through the filter basket holes.

      • This is what I meant by needle. It didn’t help much.

    • Dishwasher, intensive cycle
Can also put your milk jug in it for a good clean

Wait, double wall filter should only have 1 single hole and rest of them are all blocked iirc. look at this pic here https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/50e25057e4b039…

      • Yes, one hole only. However I used the needle to unblock to hole, it didn’t solve the problem. I will try the dishwasher.

Soak it in group head cleaner. Caffetto

      Dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush

  • This with a good grinder or a bigger Breville with the built in grinder.

I believe the new Breville built in grinders are baratza esp burrs

    • +3

Depends on your budget. The Barista Express (BES870) will have an adequate grinder but for better tasting coffee with better grind uniformity and more versatility in brewingstyles, near zero grdiner retention/single-dosing - a separate budget good grinder would always be better but will be an additonal $350+ minimum as compared to an all-in-one.

So be prepared to spend abt ~$250-$550+ more for electric. Plenty of budget hand grinder but it gets tedious after making 1-2 doses.

My 2 cents suggestions for grinders:

      Handgrinders:
      - Kingrinder K4, K6
      - Timemore C2
      - 1zpresso JX / Pro

      Electric-powered:
      - Varia VS3, gen2
      - DF64, gen2
      - Eureka Mignon - any one
      - Option-O Lagom mini

      Hybrid-grinders/Portable Electric:
      - Varia EVO Hybrid
      - MillLab E01 Timemore (Yet to be released shortly via Crowdfunding)

Hmmm YMMV given the feedback to small motor-wattage, powered grinders: https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/s/R5fC7CYZmn

      • Thoughts on the Breville Smart Grinder Pro?

        • +2

Many users have mentioned even in Ozb comments that it is definitely worth to spend the extra money for much higer quality burr and finer adjustments compared to breville Smart Grinder Pro. Without being technical, they say taste difference is noticeable!

Havjng said that, the Breville SGP is a workhorse and have been paired with many adequately espresso machines, included the beloved Dual Boiler.

            @Dcseah: Thanks!
I have the Breville SGP and it's pretty bad in terms of grinder retention. As a newbie I'm pretty happy with my purchase but will consider your list of electric powered grinders in the future.

      Grinder first. Espresso machine second.
A lot of coffee enthusiasts prefer seperate machines rather than all in ones, but for beginners you can't go wrong with the Breville all in ones.

  • +1

Best price at the moment but not an incredible price. Its been this price a few times since the boxing day. $450 or less would get me to purchase.

  • When is the dual boiler going back on sale 😭

  • I recall seeing some machine+coffee subscriptions for the bambino and grinder previously but now I can't seem to find any.
Does anyone know if there are any stores that have such a subscription? Asking mainly because it's easier on my budget to pay for a sub than outright.

    • Are you referring to the cashback offer + gift with purchase that Breville is currently promoting? https://earn-cashback.breville.com/en-AU

      • No, it's something like the Industry Beans subscription where it includes the deLonghi machine and 2 bags of coffee every 2 weeks or something like that. You pay a subscription weekly and at the end of 12 months the machine's paid off.

Chiming in to share my deep appreciation for my Bambino Plus and Smart Grinder Pro.

Coming up on four years of (at least) two daily double-shots and two milk jugs worth of Calci-Plus soy.
