Is This a Good Deal on Haval Jolion Hybrid (Ultra) - Dec'23

I am shopping around for a Haval Jolion hybrid - Ultra spec. Current driveaway pricing on the website with metallic paint is at $38,485. I managed to bring the price down to $37,000 driveaway, inclusive of car rego, stamp duty, delivery fees, fuel + mats.

I have made about 6 enquiries within the VIC Metro dealers and this is the lowest I could achieve. Just wanting to know if anyone has had a better deal?

Thanks!

Write off 38k in 7 years
or get a RAV 4, write off double in 20 years….

Different price point & different customers

    • I have considered RAV4 and the likes of Japanese cars, agreed with resale values and so on. I am not considering a high resale value as such as expecting to use the car in the long term.

Really only wanting to know if anyone has attained a better deal?

    • Yes, Haval is MADE IN CHINA!

      • There is a huge difference to where the car is designed.
I have zero issues to where things are actually made.
Apple is perhaps the best example where design gets Eskimos to buy snow from them. Look at the Pixel, even Samsung has pulled most of the brainwork from China. Canon uses mostly Vietnam for production.
I nearly bought a Haval. Speaking tho many owners and the issues they had, I had to conclude that they need a bit more time to sort things like cooling leaks etc.

So thats a long winded confirmation of my 3 words of warning about buying cars made in China

Have you seen the prices of Rav4? You could probably buy three Haval Jolion Hybrids for the same price and get a total of 21 years.

      • By then they probably introduce a recycle fee.

    Aim for $36,942.00

    • Not understanding the reason behind the specific number you have mentioned?

        $3 69 420 0

        $36,942.069 makes more scents

        • Amusing, thanks for the insights on OzBargain commentary.

        • Dude you literally missed the 420

    • Thank you! I have updated the thread. Confused with the 2023 transition to 2024

I have made about 6 enquiries within the VIC Metro dealers and this is the lowest I could achieve.

From my experience price matching cars if you’ve contacted this many dealers and this is the lowest price, you’ve probably found your deal.

Iff better deals exist, chances are they were a one-off and’or would be hard to repeat.

    • Thanks mate, that seems to be the case. When attempting to lower the price with other dealers, they flat out rejected attempting to even price match at $37k. I have just been talking to a 7th dealer this morning and they have had some minor hail damaged cars - the best they could offer me on that was $36k

I don't think $36k is low enough for hail damage considering impact on resale value / warranty / insurance and repair works if needed.

      • Depends on the actual damage. Could be very minor.

Both our car have hail damage from a big storm. I challenge anyone to find the damage, it’s not worth claiming insurance for the 3-5 tiny dents that will be overshadowed by the rest of the car’s condition at sale time.

        • Yes, the dealer claimed it was minor and not willing to budge on the price. Did you have any damage to the paint of your car? Have you checked out what the cost to repair was? I heard about $50 per dent for a particular treatment.

          • +6

@DIY learner: DO NOT BUY a new car with hail damage

Have you driven a Jolion yet?

            • @oscargamer: Yes, I have. I am comfortable with it. I know there have been complaints about drive quality etc. but to put things in context - I am upgrading from a 2007 Holden Commodore thats done 260k KM. So its a good upgrade and within my budget.

Didn't end up going with the hail damage.

      • +1

Comprehensinve insurance will be an issue with any hail damaged car….

        • +1

          Depends on the damage.

      • +2

If that has been your experience with everyone else (and you really want the car), I’d be hoping I don’t lose the $37k deal. Seems like a great deal based on your experiences

Don’t go near a hail damaged car for $1k difference between that and a new car (I wouldn’t touch a new hail damaged car but that’s also just me)

      • to a 7th dealer

If you've been through 7 haval dealers it's time to just sign a contract

        • Yes, that was the conclusion I arrived at as well - so went down on saturday afternoon and signed the paperwork!

  • Are you getting finance on the vehicle, or paying cash? (if that's not too personal a question?)

    • +2

That’s way too personal how could you ask me that??

    • -1

      Getting it financed

      • +4

please god don't finance a car lmao

        • depends, we've obtained loans twice for cars. paid both off early to reduce interest paid. overcame short term cashflow for cars that we wanted (both secondhand)
          .

So this is the best you can get after talking to 6 dealers and yet you think you can get lower?

    Ummmm ok.

    • +6

Yeah. I got a much better deal. Price was higher, but didn’t end up with a Haval.

      • -1

        Me, too - bought a Genesis GV70.

  • Put it out to a broker and tell him your lowest quote

  • 37 is good money for what you are getting. These will hold their value well if reviews here and overseas are to be believed. They look good, and with the 7 year warranty you can't go wrong.l

    • Yes, I do hope so. There is a lot of anti-Chinese commentary, hopefully that's not the case in reality. Time will tell the truth

      • +4

It not so much anti-Chinese but more anti poor quality. Yes, these vehicles are built in China but the more important thing is that they are built down to a price. If it looks and feels as good as a similar vehicle sold at a higher price (Toyota) then it’s likely they’ve taken some quality out of the bits you can’t see or feel.

China is more than capable of making quality products, but they can’t make them a cheaper without cutting quality.

  • +4

you really want to pay that much for a rubbish car?
there's a 2023 with 3k km on it at pickles for $11k less

    • +6

OP wants a high-spec hybrid which is obviously more expensive than a dented base model missing one key.

  • seems to be cheaper ones on carsales.

  • +7

The second-hand depreciation on these is pretty hectic.

Given the warranty is fairly decent i'd look for an ~2 year old one which has been hit by the depreciation hammer given that there haven't been too many upgrades on them since.

Coming from my chinese car personal experience in an LDV D90, it retails for ~$50k for the top spec, most people seem to get around $3-$4k off them new. When they're used expect ~40% depreciation in the space of 3 years. Honestly the bang for buck when used is phenomenal, not so much new.

  • +2

    No

  • +5

Just don’t! Even a 2nd hand RAV is a far better proposition.

  • -1

Me thinks he is just ‘trolling’? Perhaps winding everyone up?

    • No trolling here Hackney. The purchase fits my needs (old broken down car, never had a new car, within budget etc. etc.)

  • There is nothing wrong with the Haval and the last 8 years have proven their quality. If you want a better price, I’d suggest you look for a low km demo model or a 2023 build which they are trying to clear. I’d go into your favourite Dealer and tell them that you’d like to make a take it or leave it offer face to face, no mucking around, no shopping around. Make sure you are clear on the colour and spec up front. They will appreciate you are serious and there to buy.

    • Thanks Bilby, I did end up heading down to the dealer with the $37k on offer. Seems like from what I have researched and heard on this forum - this is the best deal I could get. Hoping your comment on the quality stays true - I am comforted by the generous warranties on offer.

      • +4

You need to go on the Haval owners groups, & see if there is any issues with warranty backup etc…parts availability also.

  • +1

I was involved in setting up Haval and the early cars were tough but not very refined or suited to our driving/roads. After almost 10 years and with new generation of suvs they are now pretty good. Spare parts supply is also much better and there is a team of Aussies running the business from Mulgrave. As I said, try a better offer in person. All the best.

  • I just purchased a gwm tank 300 , blown away by the car, 7 year warranty the thing is unbelievable for the money, Chinese manufacturers have now surpassed Korean manufacturers sales in Australia now, and are the fastest growing region for manufacturing, their supply chain will only get better and better.
You can now drive away a base model jolian for 25k or so , that's great value with a 7 year warranty

    • Yes, the tank did look very tempting to my when I was down at the showroom Retchey! All the best.

    • Chinese manufacturers have now surpassed Korean manufacturers sales in Australia now,

While that sounds like a good thing for Chinese cars, there’s a couple of factors that affect why.

Koreans have 2 main brands. Chinese now have GWM, Haval, MG, Chery, LDV, BYD. Do polestar and Volvo count? Plus the Chinese cars are all built down to a price and we all know that price is a big factor especially with the cost of living. They also have long warranty. When you can buy a 7yr warranty for the same price as a 5yo Toyota without warranty.
