  • Best Value OLED TV according to RTINGS: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-type/oled

It's very close in performance to the Sony A95L OLED and is even better in some ways while being significantly cheaper.

    • +1

But lacks DV. So for movie goers, that's a lot of coin which omits a very important feature.

      • +3

Sure, but if you compare it with the price of the 55 A95L and 55 G3, I know where my money's going. DV is tremendously over hyped.

        • +4

          The LG is same price
It comes down to what people want when it comes to their viewing pleasure.
Given DV is now a widely adopted UHD format, people will want this for movies and gaming when Samsung doesn't offer.
I don't know if you have ever gamed in DV, but it's a game changer.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: If the LG has DV, then what has the Samsung have to offer?

            • +2

@ninnypoop: Samsung is doing its own thing
The issue is, it's really only streaming services and not companies releasing movies.
Samsung just don't want to pay DV royalties. Seems petty as there are TV manufactures that have all 3 options.
The consumer loses in the end when manufacturers side by one only.
              HDR10+ 10 bit, DV 12 bit.

            • +3

@ninnypoop: All HDR TV’s will support the base HDR 10 spec, which is a static tone map applied to the entire film/TV show, etc. this can lead to issue due to some scenes being darker, others lighter, and the tone map needing to find a middle ground between the two. Crushed blacks, dull highlights, etc.

Beyond the base HDR spec is Dolby Vision and HDR 10+, which offer dynamic tone mapping, allowing for tone mapping control on a scene by scene basis, meaning tone maps can be configured for a dark scene, a bright scene, etc. Your darks look better, your highlights look better.

Samsung only support HDR 10+, but Dolby Vision is the more popular format, utilised by streaming services and modern UHD discs.

        • How is blaupunkt brand compared to this?

          • @ATTS: Who?

            • @[Deactivated]: Blaupunkt producing mostly car-audio gear and other electronic equipment

              • @ATTS: It was rhetorical, they did stellar car audio of yesteryear, but as a TV manufacturer which I doubt they even make TVs other than rebadge someone else's.
                I think that answers it.

                • @[Deactivated]: Oh rebadged

I saw stocked at jb thats why i assumed was good

          • @ATTS: Garbage is the first word that comes to mind.

            • @Maths Debater: Would hi sense brand be garbage aswell

              • @ATTS: Without a doubt.

              • @ATTS: Not US Hisense, Australia gets lower specced same named panels.
Last year was a bad case of, hey look at these stellar US reviews, unfortunately for everyone outside of the US and the naming is the same, you get lesser specced panels.

                • @[Deactivated]: I can vouch for a 65" entry level 3 year old HiSense having crap cpu or something…. so glitchy the last year or so with massive delays in increasing/decreasing volume, the on-board Android bugging out, not liking ChromeCast half the time, losing audio from the ChromeCast…. piece of crap this HiSense.

          • @ATTS: Trash. Look at the tv prices. I hope your joking but if not. Trash.

      • What is DV?

        • +3

          Dolby Vision
When done properly, can yield brilliant results. I have a ton of this type of material and I prefer it over HDR10.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Where do you source movies from? I noticed UHD blue rays don't support DV. Some streaming apps do but with lousy bitrate.

            • +1

@nigel deborah: Most of my haunting grounds have been eBay, you will pay but some movies do not get released locally with DV, that's problematic so I source OS.
Sometimes Amazon but for safety sakes (non delivery etc, eBay's got your back <—- what they say to me every time I file a claim lol)

^^ Great US store with 25% discount on 2+ items.

              rarewaves-united
^^ They have a UK store too so check them out.

              themusesaustralia

^^ Local Aussie store which can be expensive and they take their royal time to send, this is a last resort for me.

Starman DVDs is good as Tommi. Below is how you source what you need then the search on the net begins.

              Reviews
^^ Excellent source of releases and has a forum. They will post what country/region and do very thorough break downs of which release you should get.

1 thing I will advise you to do, avoid at all costs kishkash-entertainment <—— this guy will gaslight you when it all goes pear shaped.
Never has stock but says he has, then orders from OS to fulfill order, he is local too.

Just make sure you know which release is DV or HDR10. It's just sad that our local releases seem to omit DV content.
I bought an OLED specifically for movies, I game on my miniOLED.

              Hope all this helps.

        • Don't cook a man eggs when asked and he'll show you what it is

  • +1

Bought the 65" from Samsung from this -> for ~2.2k.
    Pretty good tbh.

  • +5

Samsung Frame 65" on sale too at $1495.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-65-the-frame-qled…

Chatted online and apparently only appears to be display stock around, but says a shipment is coming in in a few days. New model may be a few months away. Who knows as even Samsung wouldn't divulge this to me. I do know it's cheaper than Samsung education store by about $300.
Guy I chatted to reckons it goes back up in price later tonight.

    • +1

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, that’s a killer deal.

      • +1

Let just say some people don't know a good deal until it's not a good deal. 😂👍

      • -1

Because people like to hug their OLEDs and think that's the best that is.
Sony could be planning to dump OLED for their newer miniLEDs.

        • I know you mean well but OLED tv's are hyped for a reason. Sony may be planning to dump OLED as you say but that could very easily just be for manufacturing costs. Mini-LED panels just cost less when making it in bigger sizes and this is known industry wide. Mini-led panels have also thus far not proven to be superior to OLED's in contrast. Sony themself made their QD-OLED tv their flagship in 2023. There's a reason why people like to hug their oled's and that's because they are still very good tv's. If you are someone who will be using their tv for watching movies/tv shows and broadcast tv every now and then it will serve you very well. High contrast and gaming also works well too with OLED"s fast response times.

    • Sone additional reading around TheFrame put me off for my needs. There are good reviews out there as well, but this is worth a read https://old.reddit.com/r/HTBuyingGuides/comments/w76zb2/home…?

  • is there any cheap TV without so called fancy SMART TV feature but with a good display. I don't need high refresh rates too, I don't game on TV.

    • +1

Not really, every new tv now will come with the smart features. Just turn off internet and never use it. ATV4K or Shield Pro way to go

    • +1

The high refresh rates are a feature of OLED technology, not something they're adding in extra. The base technology in use meets the specs that gamers need, so they advertise both. You're not paying for it.

The smart stuff is everywhere, generally a mixed blessing, and you are paying extra for it. The catch is that they're all doing it, so you can't really avoid it. As the other poster says, don't connect the tv to the internet and use an external box instead.

  • +5

Can combine with Ebay voucher here at GoodGuys for $1895 plus postage (free c&c)

    (aka $80 off)

  • When did samsung started making OLED? Didn't they say OLED TVs are useless and they won't make it but came up with some snake oil bs and called it QLED marketing it as better than OLED?

    • They made their own QLED OLEDs then failed when they went back to LG for panels, don't know the current situation but I was always against them until my 65SX Dual Cell died and needed replacing.
Served me well and only cost $1350, had for 2 years and got full refund.
Flipped over to LG CS, never looked back, great image but needs to be set up properly.
LG makes good panels, no argument there, but their warranty is ballz.

      • 2 year warranty like every other TV under ACL.

        • You think ACL is a turnkey solution?
I'd like to see/hear how you're going to get something outside of manufactures warranty to stick with the vendor you purchased from.

The Hisense I had was 3 years warranty, I had my refund within 3 days from memory.

          • @[Deactivated]: I believe ACL is the strongest consumer centric law in the world. If provides protections to consumers for products that live as long as product of that category is expected. So a TV conking at 3 years 1 day should be covered provided it's not consumers fault.

    • they did and then walked back on that statement when they made QD-OLED. Which is not just a marketing statement but produces much brighter and more vibrant images than normal OLED panels. QD-OLED stands for Quantum Dot Oled panels and when you see them in store they are beautiful. They are also not as prone to burn in as normal OLED panels.

An extra thousand for 10 more inches is ridiculous. Wish the wife would value a few inches that highly

    • She does know just how much more expensive those few inches are, but not coming from generational wealth she ended up with you.

    • +1

about 18% more screen for 50% more of the price.

  • I've seen S95B, last year's model and it just looked so much better than my TCL miniled.
But 55 inch is abit small for 2024 standard, gotta get it bigger.

    • +3

Agree. I am using S95B for last 6 months, and definitely one of the best OLED TVs.

  • Got the 77" S90C before Xmas and really happy with it

  • +1

A few more months and they’ll be cheaper again by far ..

  • +1

I have this tv and it is amazing. So happy with it!

  • +3

I recently bought the S95C 65” OLED from a deal posted here a couple weeks ago, great TV, amazing colours and brightness also super super thin and looks great wall mounted. But be warned the UI is pretty basic compared to my LG TV. And also there is no HDMI ports and so on in the back of the TV you connect all that via Oneconnect box.

  • +1

No magic remote, no deal ;)

    • -1

The MR is trash, I hate mine, my TCL is a ton better.

  • -1

Seems expensive for a 55" OLED

    • It's super expensive, Sony was selling I think 85 series for 1495 at one stage.
New tech doesn't mean more expensive, it's an old trick the manufactures do to think we're getting a bargain when we haven't been.
nVidia is a perfect example of how the keep recycling the same price hikes they've been managing to get away with for years on end.
Their new Super range is perfect example.

    • Not all OLED's are the same. Have you seen what Sony are charging for the 55 A95L? That's what I call expensive.

  • +1

Bought my s90c 55 inch last November. Confirming that it is a 2nd Gen qd-oled panel (same as the s95c) if anyone wants to know. Had a ANA peak value 512.

    • This is what I'm looking for as well. Did you also get it from JB Hi Fi?

  • Managed to snag it for 1533 from Samsung direct with first time order/loyalty and trade in.

    • Still had the 15% off voucher from last year?

      • +1

        Yep!

  • Great TV. Just had a look and compare at the shop there is nothing between it and the s95c. Got it for 1614 from another deal with trade in. Wanted to get the Hisense u8k but no one had stock or at the same price (for the 65). Samsung direct it’s late Jan delivery

  • For those getting this TV, did you get gen 1 or gen 2 panel?

  • +1

Powerland has it for $1869 . I was able to price match with JB Hi-Fi

    https://www.powerland.com.au/samsung-55-series-9-s90c-oled-4…

  • If your shopping for a soundbar also, you can get the 65 inch s90c plus the Samsung q800c ($1100 down to $699) or the q990c soundbar which is (1395 down to 1295) which gets you an extra 15% off tv and soundbar bundle.

    That's $3646.50 for 65 S90C PLUS Q990C SOUNDBAR with 2 surround and sub.

That is an awesome deal and a mad little setup.

  • The 77 inch model (probs too big and expensive for most people) is is also $1800 off plus it has the panel of the higher tier s95c as the others don't. Was selected and best value tv and best of the year for most people by several youtubers with integrity that go through all the testing parameters and comparisons.
