I imagine at this price Woolworths have an entire stockroom filled with this brand of weed-killer… a Brunnings warehouse, if you will.

  • I'm gonna need a lot of weed killer. How good is this?

    • +2

If u need a lot buy a concentrate one and mix it, will end up cheaper

      • +1

which concentrate one is good to mix ?

        • I used Slasher or Zero fr Bunnings. Mix it with water. I did experiment mixing the 2 just for fun. Haha

          • @Bargain-er: Link please

            • @raj76: Just look on your computer at work

          • +2

@Bargain-er: If you did that using glass beakers, for sure it would have fizzed up at the minimum, exploded and sent glass into your eyes and genitalia, worst case.

            • +1

@WasBargain: Lucky I did it with el cheapo $2 plastic bottle. Just melted the bottle but no weeds are harmed in the process 😝

              • +4

                @Bargain-er: Good lad, safety first.

White lab coats help to hasten the chemical reaction normally, and wearing oversized goggles.

For a second I thought Woolies went rogue and started selling Bunnings products.

      Their the masters

  • I thought it’s bunnings

Half-price too but much better value for money.

    • Have used this.. Can vouch for it.. Works

    • Yeah.. I was just about to post a reply as I got an email from woolies this morning.
      A much better option imo.

Imo with all the uncertainty about the safety of glysophate, best to use gloves and change your clothes after spraying the garden.

    • +1

Yes, you could mix this into 6 litres at the same strength for $3 more.

    • +2

360g/L Glyphosate for $17.7 is my go-to solution and is cheaper (per volume).

      360g/L Glyphosate https://www.mitre10.com.au/earthcore-glyphosate-weed-killer-…

Compared to your concentrate 100g/L Glyphosate, for $7.7 more or 1.7 times more expensive you got 3.6 times more volume.

      • that's a good price for 360g/L Glyphosate in this post pandemic market.

        • China put the prices up on the chemical during the pandemic and they've never come down unfortunately.

Now everyone sells the 100g/L stuff too instead of what was always the standard 360g/L.

Mitre10 does sell a 450g/L also, usually works out cheaper with the mix ratios.

      • Thanks for the link, bunnings does not sell Glyphosate anymore even Zero has something else in it.

Tried one of the bunnings versions it just tickled the grass never killed it off.

        mixo

Just keep in mind this is NOT fast acting. This is Glyphosate 100. It takes roughly 2 weeks for it to really kick in.

The quick action has a mix of Nonanoic acid "quick acting and burns broad leaf plants" and Glyphosate for the end game slow action long results.

I use Nonanoic acid (also known as Pelargonic acid) and Glyphosate mix in a commercial setup and it works very well if you have the correct mixture for the requirements.

Glyphosate on its own works fine for large areas that you don't require quick results though.

      Hope this helps someone.

      • Does the higher concentration, eg 360g, kill them more dead or would you end up diluting to 100g as it does the same job?
I'm converting my lawn to garden so want the grass and weeds super dead.

  • I just want to kill they weed but not the grass. Would these products work well for this or its not possible to distinguish between the two?

  • +5

Boiling water also fast acting or vinegar in a spray bottle just on weed.

    • kills the leaf but regrows back the next day

      • I spray weedkiller on weeds in the concrete footpath and they still grow back too, like smashing my head against a wall with it haha

Have tried it all and there's no winning :(

        • +1

pressure washer get the dirt and ungerminated seeds out first then spray weed killer

        • +1

Use a can of the cheapest degreaser you can find. Nothing lives through it.

    • I usually always do this but not sure why but this year this didn't work on the weeds. Out some on grass I didn't want and it killed that though.

    • Ahh I was planning on trying boiling water this weekend when I do the lawns, my driveway is infested.

    • +2

Vinegar can work but it also changes the pH of the soil, keep that in mind if you intend on planting any time soon.

    • You need salt with the vinegar. Not joking, look at the active ingredients of an organic weed killer…
      https://www.richgro.com.au/product/beat-a-weed-natural-weedk…

      • Wow it's legit just vinegar and salt and 3L at bunnings is $28! I'm gonna be rich!

  • How much do you need to use to kill the weed? U gotta drench the weed or just a light spray?

Need something for my paved areas…

    • A good misting not big droplets or it falls off the leaf.
Boiling water best and quickest for paved areas that are too big.
Once weed free maintain easily with the kettle once a week on small weeds

  • +2

Still a waste of money @ $7 the strength is so weak 100g per kilo you need the 360g weed killer that's the real stuff .

      This

  • +1

I find the concentrate ones work best, just double the amount for tough weeds. Be careful if you have dogs though.

  • +3

Glyphosate (the active ingredient in this product, as well as many others like Roundup) is a confirmed carcinogen. It is partially or totally banned in over 30 countries. Some councils in Australia have voluntarily banned its use.

If you must use it, wear a mask, gloves and full body-covering clothing while spraying. Wash all the clothing and shower as soon as you finish. If you have children or pets that use the sprayed area, please don't use glyphosate at all.

    • "Confirmed carcinogen" is false. It is a "likely carcinogen", or found to be non-carcinogenic. Those found with cancer were farmers, etc who worked with it on an industrial scale.

I would still exercise caution, and prefer other products. I also avoid it because it's real easy to poison other plants by mistake.

    • What's one that's safe for pets and works quick and easy?

    • You managed to miss the important part "with sustained long term use" from your warning.

The issues with Glyphosate have occurred with people using it commercially, regularly, for years and years. There's no suggestion that there is any quantifiable risk for the home owner who sprays it a couple of days per year.

    Used before, doesn't taste good

  • Just a thought for those looking to save a few $$$

A $10 bottle of Concentrate makes up to 50L (Which I assume is likely a weaker mixture), but even if you factor in a ratio to make 25L (Which I assume would be more powerful than 'Ready to Go' bottles) that's 40c Per Litre (vs $5+ for the 1.2L 'Ready to Go' products) - Much better value for money

  • Besides the slightly annoying fact that it gives you Non Hodgkins Lymphoma it doesn't actually work that great. I found Seasol Organic Weedkiller works better.

    https://www.seasol.com.au/products/earthcare-organic-weedkil…

    • Thanks, I bought the rest off the shelf at my local. Hope my mother-in-law loves gardening..

  • These concentrates go for $10 once in awhile. I always have two of these sitting on the shelf ready to go.

  • You don't need this harmful chemical. Just get double strength vinegar for $2 a bottle and 1 cup of salt and add a table spoon of dish soap so it sticks. Spray on weeds it will die.

    • +1

Only if you don't have any good plants next to/around it, now or plans in the future. It's one way to destroy the soil pH and quality.

      • If you're that concerned with spray you can pour it in those soap handles with the sponge at the end and dab on weed. Vinegar and salt is natural to humans and animals. Glyphosate in weed killers kills everything and anything on contact wind and rain can carry to other plants that's how toxic it is.

        • Being natural doesn't mean it's not toxic, it all depends on concentration. Unnatural amounts of salt (on the plant or in the soil close to the plant) will slowly kill most plants. The salt you dab on the plant doesn't just disappear while and after it dies, rain will wash the salt crystals into the soil.

          • @Ughhh: It will be fine, microbes and living organisms will break it down sooner as it's all natural ingredient it you're worried about toxic levels get the garden hose. We're not talking concentrations that will leave the surrounding area barren for weeks to months. I would rather this in my soil beside all my other plants and pets than commercial weed killer ingredients that boast about hanging around even after the rains.

            • @GoldAlwaysGold: Using a garden hose to spray off the salts to another plant? Or to bring the pH down? Or to help the salt leach further down the soil?
Which living organism will eat the salt? Some might eat chicken salt.
I had to do a little project on the effects of salt (NaCl) on the plants and soil for Uni, it didn't take much for it to kill the plants in the area.

commercial weed killer ingredients that boast about hanging around even after the rains.

Weird. Why is this a bad thing? It's the whole purpose of the product, so you don't have to spray the weeds in between your pavers every day. Salt could also work, but you're gonna end up with salt crystals over your pavers when it dries.

Natural doesn't mean its always safer or better. Otherwise put arsenic on your garden.

              • @Ughhh: Well I've been killing weeds with NaCI for the last 10 years no harm done to surrounding soil/plants. Never had a problem, and the reason I switched from the store bought kind which I can show you countless of people killing nearby plants/fauna with along with dozens of studies on the harmful effects of glyphosate. Come again with the safer or better?
