I ordered a Haier fridge from TGG back in Nov 2023 when QLD still had the appliance rebate for energy efficient appliances (4 star). Promptly paid for the order as delivery date ETA was about a week away.
Fast forward to now Jan 2024, QLD appliance rebate has now closed and TGG sales rep cannot give me an ETA on stock. Delivery date on website just keeps pushing back by 2 weeks. Apparently stock shows up as -6 on their system at the local TGG warehouse. Probably means there are 6 other people like me waiting. There is a cashback offer from the manufacturer which will end 31 Jan 24. TGG sales person says they have contacted the Haier sales representative and they don't even know when the next batch of these fridges will arrive in Australia. Could be a 6-8 month wait, but there are none coming to the Brisbane warehouse for the forseeable future.
I had paid for the fridge with two TGG gift cards, as I could purchase TGG gift cards at a discounted rate from my employer. What are the chances I can get it refunded as cash or onto a credit card so I can buy the fridge from a competitor who actually has one in stock? The TGG price was good ($400+ off their list price) but with no ETA it's not looking promising that I'll even receive the fridge. I have a suspicion there's a chance it could suddenly be in stock again after their cashback ends at the end of January.
What would you do?
Keep waiting?
Try and push for refund to a credit card or cash, as the wait time is unreasonable (ACCC just says "reasonable timeframe" https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-servic…)?
Bikies?
Buckley's. This is why you don't buy discounted gift cards on an item that has to be ordered in.
