Hi Ozb community,
I think most of you would have tried Boost sim from the deals posted here. I have absolute great experience with their speed during any time of the day, in my old living place. However I've just moved into a new place (Bulleen VIC, 3105), where I thought should be a somehow more affluent neighbourhood (solely judging from the house price). And I naively think that all the infrastructure should be good if not better than my previous living area (Mulgrave VIC, 3170).
But to my astonishment, the internet speed I got with the same Boost sim with the same phone, on the same afternoon (tested just about 30 min apart as I am moving between 2 places), has huge difference (like 20 times or something). I used to get around at least 200Mbps all the time, now it is constantly around 5-15Mbps no matter what time of the day, which makes it barely usable with only 1-2m/s internet speed.
I tried to call Telstra but all the solutions they offer are somewhat expected and actually useless even before I have to try it (like reset phone network settings, update phone system etc..). As it is clearly not related to the phone (I have a 4G Android phone and 5G iPhone, both got similar bad speed, and those speed differences are tested on the same phone at nearly the same time), so I guess it should be infrastructure related. I checked the CELL ID of the tower I connect to (135776515), it is not far away from the place I live, like 400m walking distance, and the strength of the signal is ok but not too bad (-86dBm, 54asu)? And I live with 2 elderly people who does not have mobile data, and another one is using Vodaphone. Or is it possible that most neighbour here is using Telstra thus causing the congestion? But I suppose with congestion there should be good times (like during morning of workday) and bad times (like in the evening). However the speed tested is constantly bad, never once over 20Mbps.
Any thoughts of what is the possible cause of the situation? Or what party should I contact to solve the problem?
Cheers!
Could be an outage in your area.. I can check when I’m back at work
