Not really a bargain. You can buy similar on Aliexpress for less… US$4.45 + $6.29 del + GST (~AU$17.70)
Can’t you buy similar of anything on AliExpress for less?
Yep hence why I'm always mentioning it on lots of crappy Rep posts that are using OzB for free advertising.
Also the one I linked to takes 2 x AAA which is much better than 9V.
that's true, just buy it test it and return used for free. Free Advertising indeed heh
yeah, inkbird is 9v …so can’t use AAA eneloops ….i have the inkbird and find 9v requirement annoying
Comparatively I'd consider $1.30 to have a semi-reputable brand delivered in 2 days a decent bargain
I think you missed the point of my comment. This isn't a bargain & we are on a bargain website.
Also some comments in old posts said it's junk -
I’ve given up on inkbird, cheap chinese manufactured products with no quality associated with it.
Your comment had no point. You're comparing a different product that will take much longer to be delivered.
It's easy to cherry pick.
@ScottEh: This isn't Ozfastestdelivery though so it's definitely got a point. Been making these comments for years & most members seem to appreciate it. SImilar product for less which takes 2 x AAA, much better than 9V.
Also it complies with the guidelines if I wanted to neg.
@WatchNerd: Ok, you've focused on half of my point, and the fact that it's a different product? I could equally say your watch deals are pointless since I can buy some junk on AliExpress for cheaper.
Look maybe it's worth nothing but I've only had good experiences with my IBT-4XS and IHT-1P, both are still kicking after 3 years while my name brand Maverick didn't last one. They're also are pretty involved with the Australian BBQ community so I trust their products a little more than no-name generics on Aliexpress.
In what way does this help with cooking meat? “Oh the surface of the chicken is 75°C? Must be ready”
Enjoy the salmonella
The idea is to check the temperature of the surface you are cooking on. It's used in combination with a probe thermometer.
Which means it is not a meat thermometer - literally any infrared thermometer would do that
It's used in the process of cooking BBQ meat.
@ScottEh: It is a standard infrared thermometer, being branded as a meat thermometer - which is a specific device
Might as well brand my phone as a porn finder
@ScottEh: how so?
why would you want the outside temp of bbq meat? it's pointless because you'd have an ambient heat really. the only reason I could see if you wanted the grill to say 250° before searing.
Inkbird probe is a meat thermometer, this is just a surface thermometer.
Anyone who needs a combination of thermometers to cook meat doesn't belong in front of a BBQ.
gotta take it further and get some AI nsfw chat bot involved too
Please…. Pro/Comp smokers are using thermometers.
So ok for pros but not home BBQers?
@Jessie Ryder: For internal and ambient temperatures, yes
But not for the surface temperature of the grill surface, which is irrelevant with smoking
@linkindan: It's for griddles/flat tops and pizza ovens where you're looking for a specific surface temp. I agree it's not really a meat thermometer but both griddles and pizza ovens exist within the BBQ sphere and there's probably a little lost in translation.
@Jessie Ryder: who uses infrared thermometers and for what purpose? again maybe to measure the surface temp of the grill, etc but not meat on a bbq. it wouldn't be accurate anyway.
about the only mewt I'd say is sandwich steak/schnitzel because you can't insert a probe.
@M00Cow: It's really useful for bakers, like a custard that needs to be cooked at a certain temperature, chocolate tempering or generally annoying my cat
@Bubbleshark: oh 100% agree it's useful for baking.
but not the advertised meat or for bbq.
and I was replying to this
Please…. Pro/Comp smokers are using thermometers.
Is this just surface temperature?
It’d be some device if it did internal!
yep just surface temp, so good for checking temp of pans, pizza stones, car radiator, etc, doesn’t replace meat probe thermometer which checks internal temps.
But the meat probe can also tell you the surface temperature of those items, so this is pointless for cooking
Have fun taking the surface temperature of a pizza stone with a probe.
Is this a new drop shipping service you've setup?
That's what I was thinking.
Inkbird have their own store on AmazonAU.
these guys were ahead of them
nah they were the original inkbird importers. they've been around for ~10yrs selling inkbird stuff in ebay and then also on Amazon. I got my first inkbird bbq thermometer off them.
the oldest post I can find from them on here is 2018
Not sure who is measuring meat on the outside…
your local gastroenterologist who needs a new boat?
ayo rembember during the dark times of covid where dropshippers could sell these bad boys for >$69+ a pop?
Bummer!
Was looking for a thermometer to measure temperature of my fish.
