My RTX 3080 is munted so I'm looking for a replacement. Budget is $1k but can go a little higher if need be. Primarily I want to game with the card but I also want it to render 3D models in Rhino3D. My 3080 craps itself above 70 degrees so it's basically useless for any work now. Any thoughts on what card would be a good replacement?

Some in that thread mentioned receiving a 4060Ti when they ordered that card so not the best example, but still with newer 'Super' variants released some may be able to pickup a 4070Ti bargain.

Firstly, the NVidia super cards are coming out over Jan, with more realistic prices. As such it's expected that AMD will cut prices too. EoL versions of NVidia cards will of course come cheaper, until they are sold through.
Gaming can be done on any card. Some claim that Nvidia is best because of raytracing and DLSS, but 4K is generally too much for most cards (certainly in the $1k region) and conversely 1080p can be handled by most most cards.
Rhino doesn't seem to murder the VRAM, but its worth considering 16GB as a minimum, and 20/24GB is good for machine learning.
As such I'd aim at a 4070ti super if the price comes down to a reasonable level, or a 7900XT if not.
4070 Ti for $950 will be hard to beat. It’s about 20-30% more powerful than a 3080.
If it comes back in stock and/or delivers correctly. May be available at other retailers.
