Sounds like a great way to break up a long trip!

    • +20

Yeah, right, in 33 degree 99% humidity. You better make sure you have time and access to shower afterwards.

      • +6

You have to pay for the showers. It's how they get you.

        • There's always a catch

          • @x x: Apart from the heat, another catch is that you either need to take your carry on luggage with you on the bike or pay to have it stored somewhere.

            • @oz-dave: Can’t you just leave your bag with your wife near the gate?

      • taking bets now on how many won't shower

  • +27

Uff… 2hrs on a bike in the Singapore heat. I get sweaty even walking there for 15mins :-D

    • +9

Cycling can actually be more comfortable than walking over there with the breeze you get. Just take it easy

    • -1

      Damn son

      • +1

Some of us are just born sweaters Rick. I'm reasonably fit, biking 80+km weekly, but I'll be sweating after a 15m walk too.

  • +6

Excellent idea!! However, needs to come with shower access afterwards.

      • Awesome, thanks for this :)

      • Been there multiple times, never knew that existed
        Thanks

        +$4.5 for disposable towel

      • $7 for two entries, is there a person enforcing its same person for both entries or can we share the QR code for the shower. Another possibility is showering together.

  • +12

Ah yeh first thing I'm always thinking of after a 8 or 14 hr plane ride… When can I get on a bike in 30deg heat and 100% humidity… Lol

    • Ahhh….that's why all those people stand up straight away , even though they need to wait, after the planes taxi's.

Nice looks like im going to Singapore for a free bike ride, a whole 120 minutes I will savour every second for sure. Can I ride around the perimeter of Singapore in 2 hrs? I don’t want to miss my flight back

    • +9

150km. If you can you should be drug tested

  • There is actually plenty to do at that airport it is like a destination of commerce itself. I've stayed the night in a hotel at that airport and it was actually really great. I even had a long wait in T4 which is supposedly the worst terminal for things to do and it wasn't that bad to be honest.

Don't you have to pay a departure tax if you leave and return to airport?

Makes it a bit less of a free bicycle ride.

    • +1

Huh? Since when Singapore charging this tax for Australian?

      • Thought it applied to everyone.

        www.lifestyleasia.com/sg/travel/singapore-changi-airport-ext…

Legitimate question though as to whether the bike ride is somehow exempt, as certainly impacts on how free it ends up being.

I haven't transited through there in years, but back in student days when on a shoestring budget was certainly a consideration, that stopped me heading out of airport to city for just a few hours.

        • +1

This probably charged in tickets for people originated from Singapore. Transit passengers would have the "transit tax" included in the ticket.

    • +3

No, that’s not a thing for Australian or British passport holders. I’ve been into Singapore many, many times during a layover or just to go into Jewel and there’s never been a tax applied.

Other passport holders may have taxes applied so you should always check the specific rules for your passport with each country you visit.

    • +3

There was no charge last time I went through Singapore. Just scanned my passport and out I popped.

    • +2

      No

    • +1

Leaving the airport to enter Singapore isn't what changes you from "transit/transfer" to "departure".

      Here's the official definition:

To qualify as a Transit Passenger, traveller must:

      • Have both flights booked in the same booking itinerary
      • Have their check-in luggage tagged-through from the origin airport to their final destination

      https://www.changiairport.com/en/airport-guide/transit.html

    • i just transited in Singapore yesterday and no fee

    • no, i went out did a tour went to the store came back and it was all good

you just cant go out multiple times.

  • +2

I love this idea! I’m not at all worried about cycling in the heat. I’m sure they go at a leisurely pace.

  • Do they have these cycle at 4AM. I arrive into Singapore at 3AM and my onward flight is not till 8AM?

  • +2

166+ votes for jumping through a lot of hoops to borrow a bike in an unknown, humid city whilst having a plane to catch in a few hours… what could go wrong?

  • The problem with this and the free city tour on the bus is there are limited spaces, first come first served. Last time we rocked up for the free Singapore bus tour only to be told it was full. A better system would be to allow half of the bus to pre book spots and they other half to be people arriving at the desk.

While the airport is aiming for efficiency it pisses people off to get up their expectations of something only to get off the plane find the desk and be told no.

  • Lol. Singaporeans have a hate relationship with cyclists. Keep to the park connectors or prepare to be driven off the road at first chance any driver gets.

  • You ride to Changi Beach or East Park along the Changi Airport Connector, lots of off road bike paths. Then hang around outdoors, lots of food and other things to do. Beats sitting in the airport and looking at upmarket chain stores. Get an ocean breeze.

Sure if you have never been to Singapore before then you might prefer to head into town and eat at a food court or check out a site, but if you have done that before or want to do something for a couple of hours it’s a perfectly pleasant way to do it. It’s hot but toughen up, millions of people manage to live in the tropics
