Are your Amaysim 4G network speeds also slow, like internet used to be in the 2000's?

Hi Guys,

I just switched from Boost to Amaysim 365 plan (140GB). Boost has 5G and Amaysim is on 4G, which is fine, but I really doubt if my internet speed is 4G?!

Tested on Mount Dandenong, download speed normally around 2-3mb at hill top (near rhododendron garden), when get into the hill, sometimes it's nearly unusable at less than 1mb. My new phone was purchased overseas so potentially it does not support the band used by Optus (it does have 4G 28A band though);

However when I came home, and switched the simcard back to my previous phone, which was bought in AU and support up to 5G, download speed is 15mb (Melbourne east Suburb not too far from city), still way slower than my previous experience with Amaysim a year ago, same phone can get result at least 50mb.

Another issue is, it's sometimes (relatively) quick sometimes slow; sometimes showing 5G signal, while most time only has 4G.

    no

  • Amaysim is quite fast where I was. 18MB/s (Byte not bit) on hot spot with steam download.

Amaysim runs on the Optus network. You can't expect much.

  • Agree. It is bad. So i am moving to vodafone soon once all my data is exhausted. What is cheap non-mvpn prepaid sims you can get these days besides boost and vodafone?

Signs of network congestion / over subscription in your area

sometimes showing 5G signal, while most time only has 4G.

Signs of poor 5G reception / tower a bit too far for your phone to communicate with. Also indoor and outdoor performances will be difficult.

  • Lol,
there was a time when rtfm was the normal reply in forums.
I was on Amaysim and their speed lived up to their name.
Now I fell for an illegal baiting company being boosted into poverty…

    slow as from 2000

I doubt you have ANY IDEA how slow 56kbps really is.

    • lol could that even download any current websites in 2024? I wonder what a single ozbargain page is in terms of size to download just this forum post.

      • Though I'd give it a shot…19 seconds to open this page to see readable content, and 34 seconds to have everything fully downloaded - not using any cache. Adblockers enabled.
Not too bad actually if you have the patience
