    wtf is a digital envelope?

    • +1

Agree that was a useless item, fixed with a physical one :-)

      • I was under the impression that the $1 item is usually cable ties

        • +1

          Cable ties were $3.

      • No it was fine. I'm just curious

        • +3

Looks like that mob are selling +ve feedbacks at 1 buck a pop…

          Item description from the seller
Just a digital envelope send through message. Please do not purchase if expecting physical goods. Good feedback will be left too.

          • @Buy2Much: Sheesh! Where do people get such ideas from.

  • -4

not much different to the earlier gens which you can get for sub $400

    • +5

I'm not sure if it's because my 4 years old V10 fluffly head was already worn out, but the gen5detect is definitely much better than my previous V10.

    • +19

Cool story, nevertheless this is a great price on a good product. Try meditation.

      • Good product! Absolutely. Great price? Not so sure.

    • +2

      Wtf are you on about?

    • Who asked?

      • -3

The owner asked me to clean it when I complained about the smell. I wouldn’t recommend a Dyson, my point is.

        • -1

          No one asked bro

          • @shaibankek2: Well sorry if you're so easily rattled by unsolicited information. Life must be a constant struggle for you.

            • -1

@AustriaBargain: If you're cleaning someone else's Dyson then fair to say you're not exactly killing it in life

    • so are you saying the cat smell won't linger in other vacuums?

      • Yup

        • +1

Maybe Dyson is manufactured in the same factory as the cats? Cross contamination perhaps?

    • Similar experience. Had a V6 not long after it’s released, remember having the convo with someone about the smell and I didn’t have any pets at that time.

  • My v6 is finally dying, and can't be bothered with a second battery replacement. Like the fluffy heads. Don't need water mopping head.

Is this the one to buy?

    • +8

I was in exact same situation as you.
Had a V6, sick of using cheap generic battery replacement that died in 3-4 months.

Black Friday sales came up and I snapped up a Gen5. Game changer, especially if you have majority hard floors. The laser thing is also damn nifty to ensure you've gone over an area.

      • Aftermarket batteries are always hit and miss, usually a miss.

The key is to buy them off Amazon and return them as faulty when it dies prematurely.

I did this 2 times but the third battery has actually been extremely good.

        • How long do you consider it to be premature? 6 months? I have my old V6 sitting in the cupboard for years now, nothing wrong with it except it doesn’t charge anymore. Dyson rep told me I needed a new charger.

      • Thanks for the recommendation, I bought it!

Try the Samsung jet in store. I much prefer it to the Dyson

      • +14

        Username checks out

      • Owned the samsung one. Lighter, quiter. Just don't know how long it lasts. My impression with Dyson is that they are very easy to die.

        • 40ins on the gen5detect on eco mode. Just keep it in auto mode as it will change depending on if it detects it is on floor boards, tiles or carpet.

        • +1

I am still using a DC35 Animal and DC 43. No battery change
          So not easy to die

      • +1

I got the Samsung Bespoke Jet through the Samsung EPP store for $760 which includes the auto-emptying charging station (floor standing too so no need to wall mount anything) mop head and 2 batteries. Very very happy in the 2 weeks I've had it so far; value-wise feels miles ahead of Dyson.

    • The ergonomics on both are very different and the weight. Go into JB etc where they have both on display and try it yourself. Get the on that feels best for you. I've had both. Owned the gen5 for about 24 hours. One arrived DOA, was the battery and then they replaced the battery and the mode button didn't work. Ended up returning it. However I found it much heavier and awkward to use than the Dyson V11 which I have and the Sammy Jet 90 which I also have.

Anyway go into store and try it in person, and pick which one you find most comfortable to use. Performance wise they are all pretty much on par.

    • I have had Dysons for many years and, as you would hope, the GEN5 is on a different level

The only call out is if you are not very strong, maybe it's for an older person?. When you use it for cleaning cars, sofas etc the unit is relatively big and heavy especially compared to something like a V12 slim.
Horses for courses, but it is by far the best unit I have used

    • You can get a adaptor and use battery from cordless power tools.

  • I heard that Gen5 detect also includes Floor Dok Multi, but I don't see it in the product description, is Floor Dok Multi included?

The Complete version has the floor dock, the Absolute is just the wall dock

      • Thank you. From my search, it seems that the Complete version is only sold on the Dyson website.

  • +4

I wonder if its even possible to have more jolly joy things on a vaccuum cleaner. Maybe have it emit an arc of lightning like the ghostbusters proton pack and then have all the dust bunnies get sucked in like Slimer. Hopefully something like that in the gen 8

  • +4

Gen5 detect has ruined me. The laser shows me all the dust on the floor boards / tiles and the stats on the back of the unit show me real time feedback on how disgusting my carpets are. Way to go Dyson!

    • Those metrics would be fun to have.

      • +1

You would think but it makes you obsessive over cleaning.

        • So, get one for the wife to use?

          • +1

@greennick: Thats why i bought it but i've become more obsessive over it. Didn't know how dirty the house was before hand. Ignorance was a bliss.

  • What are thr typical lifespan people usually get from these dysons before either the battery or vacuum sharts itself?

Been eyeing these but my good ol sanyo wall plug vacuum is still functioning

    • +3

      My personal experience with 1 V6, 2 V8 and 1 V10…

Do not run the battery down to empty before charging.

My first original batteries on V6 and V8 died just over 12 month with me running the batteries down all the time. Dyson replaced both batteries even with no warranty.
After the new replacements, I changed the way I use and don't empty the batteries before charging, Those Dyson batteries lasted almost 3 years.

      • That's interesting! I run my Dyson V10 battery down every single time I use it, and it's been five years and still going fine. (The machine itself is crap in many other ways such as the infernally stiff connection of the wand to the bin which has to be brute forced out every single time you want to empty the bin, and the filters which now clog up after every single use), but the battery hasn't had a problem.

    • I’ve had my V11 coming up 5 years and not had a single issue.

    • I bought the Dyson V8 when they first came out 7 years ago and the battery only recently fully died or something as it would not charge.

  • Wait for EOFY. I got my v12 around $700 whereas it is now selling $1399 with same specs…

  • Just bought one, almost bought v10 few days back when the deal finished when I was about to checkout. I hope Gen5 is better than v10.

    • +2

v10 is not good in my opinion. Had one for the past five years and it's been really troublesome. Worst of the several Dysons I've owned IMO.

      • +2

My v10 was also really troublesome, I ended up returning for a refund after ~12 months. I have the Gen5 and already it is much better in all aspects.

  • Has anyone had experience of JB Or Good guys would price match this seeing it is a “code?”Just coz I’ve got a few gift cards I’d like to use up. Thanks in advance

    • It is from the dyson official store

    • +1

Literally the same link as the deal LOL

  • +1

    What about the v15s submarine

    • That is to clean the pool.

  • deleted

  • Just pulled the trigger on a V10 Absolute for $700 earlier today…

    • I have 2 v10s at home, thinking maybe it's worth getting these new fangled dyson tech. If it tells me spots I've missed, I'm keen.

      • We’ve had a v6 for ages, have been keeping it alive with a bit of regular maintenance and a couple of battery upgrades but recently got a rug that it just couldn’t cope with. Gave the v10 a spin this arvo and it’s a massive upgrade. Not sure if that’s just because it’s superior tech or just that ours was worn…

  • +1

Thanks OP, I bit the bullet and bought!

  • I bought one on sale from Dyson and very impressed so far

  • It should really include the Dok.

    Very tempting still.

    • In the Box
      Wall dock
Wall-mounted dock to recharge your vacuum and tidily store tools.

I thought it was weird that people kept calling it 'dok' so I looked it up and that is actually what dyson calls it lol Crazy

      • +1

Sorry I meant the free standing one.

It is included with the "Complete", but out of stock at the moment and also not on sale.

I think it's like $150 individually, it's the sort of thing they can happily give away for free, but when it's not free, they really make people pay for it.

I know there are third party ones on Amazon, but prefer Dyson ones.

Dyson calls the wall mounted one "dock", free standing one "dok".

      • For some reason can't find photos of it, the Multi Floor Dok for V12, V15, and Gen5Detect are all slightly different due to variance in battery shapes.

Here's an assembly video for Gen5Detect, overpriced for what it is, hence preference to have it included.

  • Would anyone have experience with how this compares to the LG cord zero a9t?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Upgrading from a 6+ year old V6..

  • +1

Great deal! Thanks OP, just purchased. I purchased the V10 from the deal that was posted last week but I’ll return it when I get it and keep the V15. I’m used to the removable batteries in my LG CordZero so the V15 will definitely suit me better.

  • Deal is still valid however with new code SAVJAN24

Just bought a gen5 with the same link and method successfully.

    Cheers

    • That only takes $50 off
