I absolutely love this musical. I have been twice. Highly recommend to anyone.

    • I went and saw both this and Wicked in the last few weeks and loved the latter a lot more, my preference is a richer story instead of a larger dose of musical.

Would love to see more going forward however since these aren't exactly pocket change (paid $150), is there any resources which indicates how much musical is in a musical performance?

      • Yup we saw Wicked too and loved it. Not sure how to find out how much music is the musical lol maybe check reviews online & wait for sale and buy cheaper tickets.

        • For Wicked I was at row F which I thought was perfect, it's more a luxury than a regular and it didn't make sense to cheap out and seeing the people on stage as size of ants. For B&B it was row L which felt bit further than ideal.

Did you opt for further back seats, and wish you could be closer to the stage? I remember going to Kevin Hart once and I was so far back and up it might have as well been seen on the telly and felt like a waste of money.

          • @[Deactivated]: I saw beauty and the beast on the front row and was so close that I could see too much of the men in their tights if you know what I mean lol Then I decided that I wanted to see it from the balcony which was also nice and way more expensive as it was box seats with food included. The view at front row was probably better though & you really feel part of the show..the actors look you in the eye and all. From the balcony you see the big picture but are 'removed'. I would like to try dress circle front row next time I go to a show. For Wicked I was being cheap after spending all my money on B& the B lol so I got $79 tickets that were 2nd row but at the side. My daughter could see everything perfectly fine but I had the stairs in front of me so my view wasn't the best. I might go to Wicked again and will probably sit at the back of the stalls and try that out as dress circle front row is all taken atm

      • I want to see Into The Woods. The songs feel a bit too cheesy for my liking, but it's still a solid Sondheim. Slim pickings in Adelaide though when it comes to musicals. Some musicals and ballet here don't even have a real orchestra, they just pop a CD in.

    • Just curious, any special dress code for enjoying musical?

      • +4

No thongs..shorts etc..some ppl were dressed really formal and some were in jeans + tshirt / top. Up to you but should look nice & presentable as the theatre is really nice fancy style.

Thanks mate. I'm ready to try musicals now.

      • Got one tmr for the Aus day!

    • Are they not French?

    • +1

      What did they change?

    • Details? I know the same girl played Cinderella and it was modern and weird… but that's on me for not reading the plot.

Anyone know if its based of the original musicals / movie from the 90s, or if its based on the live action one from a few years ago?

    • what's the difference?

      • +3

Older versions have more nostalgia. Modernised versions are meh, going off the Lion King remake/live action from a few years ago.

      • -1

Live action was decent but had some extra Disney Woke agenda added to the story which changed some of the main / original story . I wasnt sure if that will get carried over to the musical as well. I loved the original animated movie and the musical from back then

        • what changes were made?

          • @XJX: Probably best you watch both movies one after the other, If i start responding on here, some people will be up in arms.

      • The new version had some more songs. Not sure if they changed the story as I never watched it lol

    • +2

It is %100 true to the original. They do have some newer songs added in though like 'Gaston'.

    • Its like the cartoon. Recommend going.

Took the parents in December, everyone loved it. Was a well put together production with lots of energy.

  • +5

Went there and it's a superb show for all ages, highly reccomend for everyone whether it's a family night out or romantic date.

I recommend not to sit in the first row ppl lol

Note that the $85 tickets in this offer only applies to Category 3 tickets (which are further from the stage) and seem to have an original price range from $99-130. It does not apply to all tickets.

This offer also only applies to performances until Jan 21, whereas the production is playing until January 28.

    FYI.

    But nonetheless, yes great show!

    • I got tickets in a row where the next seat over is still available on the regular site for $170, yes it's one seat in but I doubt it would have been cheaper than $150

  • Thanks OP, grabbed a couple. Although unlikely, it would be good if they offered the same with Wicked as it winds down its Sydney run.

    • i grab $79 tickets for it, going tonight.

  • im going to Wicked tonight and was going to see how the seats were for the kids. not sure if their view would be obstructed if we sit in stalls. anyone have advice where to sit with kids at the capital theatre?

    • +2

You can request for a chair booster thing so that your kid can see. We have sat front row and in the balcony, both were good. Near the front of the dress circle would be good too.

    • +3

We sat in Row C, 13/14/15 with a 7 year old. (these may not be the sale seats) just before new years.
They have booster seats (get from staff near the stairs at the front).

      https://www.capitoltheatre.com.au/seating-plan.aspx

There is a google maps street kind of view so you can get an idea of what your view will be.
      Plus a seating map.

  • any discount in QLD? 😉

i saw this before christmas with my high school daughter because my wife couldn't make it. i hate musicals and operas. i will pay the expensive price for my wife and kids to go so i don't have to.

with that said, i loved it. it was fantastic. also no bullshit "woke" disney crap.

i would honestly watch it again.my wife thought i was being an (profanity) for "pretending" to love it and be enthusiastic. then she realised i was being serious and she was happy for me. finally a musical i liked.

i think the next one i want to watch is hamilton. its not traditional, but i think i vibe with it better.

    • Where were you sitting? Newbie here, and the best I can find is row P in the stalls, kinda middleish. I just dont really want to pay that much if it would be better to just watch it on TV

      • +1

i was in the lower level middle, about front middle section. fantastic view. honestly i think you can see well from all the seats, except for the extreme ends as the stage goes inside like a garage, so you will miss the show on the ends you are sitting in. i think front row of the 2nd level would be great seats too as you get a higher vantage point.

i paid full price for my tickets, and i would honestly pay full price again to watch it. it was that good. $85 is a steal.

Thanks OP! Grabbed a couple of tix

Colleague mentioned this musical today and now this offer pops up. Bought 2 tickets for after work, thanks OP

  • +2

thanks OP, just bought 2, no transaction fee, paid with discounted gift card so effectively $78.2 each.

  • I paid 60 for seats closer to the stage last year. Bought them in July for September

  • We bought a couple of tix and went earlier tonight, it was fantastic. thanks OP!

  • Thanks op!

  • Had an enjoyable night, very nostalgic.

    Thanks OP.
