Casio GBD200 or Garmin Instinct 1/2 (Non Solar)

Hi Casio/Garmin users/ other watch wearers.

I wanted to purchase this watch, the intended recipient for this watch is someone who gets a decent amount of notifications, does kayaking, running and weight lifting but doesn't workout as much and as often at maybe 3 times a week. He works mostly indoors but hates smart watches as he hated charging it daily and wanted a longer battery life + more visible screen outside.

From research I've seen that both of these watches use an MIP display that is meant to be very visible outdoors. Casio is around $220 on amazon and the Instinct 2 is around $350 and prices can vary between the two but the garmin seems to be more expensive (alot more features for working out though and arguably more durable).

I wanted to know an opinion of people who have used either one or both of these watches for someone who wouldn't fully utilise the GPS capability and workout features, does the casio hold up in terms of showing notifications/responding to notifications as well as the Garmin and would it be the better option?

Thanks :)

  • dont get the gbd200 for activity tracking. its pretty basic. I bought it because of the look of the watch, but the smart watch features are pretty terrible

    • Yeah the notification management looks bad. I went to get an instinct 2 but they found an instinct 1 in the back. There was 1 left over stock that was just misplaced in inventory at my local jb that was a display piece not on their site. I was able to get it for $100 as it wasn't even being sold on their site. So far I'm loving the notification management, pretty accurate sleep tracking and step tracking. Haven't biked or done kayaking with it yet. Loving the MIP display on this though. Game changer for watches for sure.
