probably gonna need the actual price of AT LEAST a bottle of wine as an indication of savings… ozbargainers dont like percentages, we NEED to know how much dollar we save

EDIT: gave the post a re-jig for you op… price was needed. hope you approve… :)

    • Thank you!

  • $170 for 12 at winemarket (plus $8 delivery) after using NEWS10 coupon (which gives $10 off).

    http://www.winemarket.com.au/Home_4/REDS/Churchview-Bartonda…

So its $10 cheaper per six pack. Of course you have to buy 12 to make the saving.

  • "Some wines at up to 66% off plus free shipping."

After a recent experience with vinomofo (I even spruked them here - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81682) I'm very wary of the prices given, especially for unnamed offerings. Be very aware when the brand name isn't given and so you can't check how much you're 'saving'.
I bought 'mystery Cab Sav' with the 94 pt James Halliday rating for $75/6pack (https://vinomofo.com/deals/mofo-secret-deal-94-point-hilltop…) - allegedly usually $26/bottle.

What I got was this wine: http://www.graysonline.com/retail/27732010/wine/barwang-cabe… valued at $19/bottle but easily available everywhere for $15-16/bottle. And I couldn't find a review anywhere that gave it a 94 point James Halliday rating.

Don't get me wrong - it's a nice wine - but what I 'saved' was more like $15 than $75.

Did get a lengthy reply from vinomofo today apologising for their error -

      Hi Sean,

Ah, it kills me, this sort of thing. Firstly - THANK YOU. I've looked deeper into the RRP and spoken with Sam (the producer) - you're spot on.

RRP from producer is $23, but they sell it at cellar door for $22. So under our Vinomofo policy, RRP would then be $22. That it got quoted at $25 is exactly what we cannot stand from our competitors (inflating RRP to justify a discount/saving), so that's where it pains me to have discovered this.

It's something that an over-enthusiastic buyer has managed to slip through our deal approval process, which is usually pretty solid.

I've asked our dev team to set up an email to everyone who has bought the case (including you), and we'll point out what's happened, give everyone a chance to return the case for a full refund or credit if they don't feel after knowing this that it represents the value they expected, and we'll pop a $20 credit in everyone's account by way of apology.

Here's a link to the Halliday 94pt review - that wasn't made up, though he does quote the RRP as $19.99, which is, as you've discovered, what you might expect to find it for at Dan's, for instance.

      http://www.winecompanion.com.au/wines/barwang-hilltops-caber…

I guess it's human nature for buyers to try to make a deal work within our guidelines, but that doesn't excuse it, and we're building something here at the 'Fo that has no place for that sort of thing.

  • Tried it today. Didn't particularly like it. But it was a 94 point wine (from the McWillian's website):

"McWilliam’s Wines has enjoyed its best result ever in the 2013 Halliday Wine Companion – with four wines from McWilliam’s Wines receiving 96 points, three wines receiving 95 points and 13 wines receiving 94 points.

Another great achievement showcased in the book is the induction of Echelon (Zeppelin, Partisan, Last Horizon, Armchair Critic) as one of the top 10 new wineries.

    Other highlights included:
•2010 Mount Pleasant Maurice O’Shea rated 96 points
•2007 Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon rated 96 points
    •2008 McWilliam's 1877 rated 96 points
•2009 McWilliam's Morning Light Botrytis rated 94 points
•2010 Mount Pleasant Old Paddock and Old Hill rated 95 points
•2010 Partisan McLaren Vale Shiraz rated 94 points
•2010 Partisan Trenchcoat Shiraz rated 93 points
•2011 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Semillon Sauvignon Blanc rated 94 points
•2009 Evans & Tate Metricup Road Cabernet Merlot rated 94 points
    •2010 Barwang 842 Chardonnay rated 96 points
•2010 Barwang Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon rated 94 points—————————
•2008 Zeppelin Ferdinand rated 95 points
•2009 Zeppelin Big Bertha Shiraz rated 94 points
•2011 Last Horizon Coal River Riesling rated 94 points"

If you don't like a wine, you can return it. Most of the online sellars are quite good with returns.

    • But still I couldn't find anywhere that valued it at the alleged $26/bottle original price?
