    Still a rort

Where's the HODL option in the poll?
I'm just here for the drama

  • Still overpriced Nvidia tax but not as bad as before. 4070 ti memory upgrade makes it at least properly support 4k monitors

  • the prices LOL

  • 4080 is US$100 or AU$200 overpriced, still. Arguably, this late in the generation they should be even cheaper.

  • The RX7600XT is a bit meh AMD could have up it up a node to a cut down Navi 32 it might be an issue with Navi 33 being a monolithic die and Navi 32 is a MCM die or even release a RX7700.

    Bs pricing

  • +2

In currency exchange market, 1 US dollar equals 1.5 AU dollar, why in nvidia world, 1 US dollar equals 2 AU dollar, that is a rip off.

    • +5

Import costs, GST, robust consumer protections, smaller market, etc.

This has been the case for every GPU launch for the last 20 years.

  • Had my 4080s ROG for years now and no complaints. Playing games in full settings. Not sure about the prices now.

    4080 Super âś…
4070 Super and 4070 Ti Super overpriced by 10% to give AMD breathing room to release an AU$1300 RDNA 4 8800 XT

The delusional tech crowd hoping NVIDIA would offer more for less burnt again

They are colluding with AMD meaning the only competitive release this year will be Intel's Battlemage

  • I'll take a few of the NVIDIA RTX 5880 Ada please.

  • I JUST got an RTX 2070 and am totally happy with it.

  • +6

Where's the 1080ti still working well for me option?

    • +4

I'm thinking of upgrading to that one.

    • +2

I'm in this camp too but sucks that the 1080ti is now finally starting to show its age with the latest releases like Alan Wake 2 :(

  • +1

Prices are good for performance for US market. We'll see how long it would take to match current RTX 4070/4070Ti to worth buying it.

Nevertheless, personally, I'm currently building a PC on latest Ryzen 7000 platform and consider 4060 Ti as a graphics card. Of course, it would be great to have 4070 but I don't think I can afford it at the moment. So how do you think, is there a chance of upcoming sales for 4060 Ti, or I shoudn't wait and go for it now? (WA)
A little bit off-topic but I don't want to create a discussion for this small question.

  • +1

Wait for 7900XT or 7900XTX price to come down

  • I realise no one has a crystal ball, but does annyone think any retailers or prebuilt pcs (eg nebula) might be discounting the 4080 non super to clear stock?

Guessing the 4080 non super still better performer than a 4070 Ti super, assuming similar price point?

Hoping to have a full build under around $2600

    • +1

Umart/MSY have already dropped the PNY 4080 to $1699

A quality 5700X3D/B550/4080 build with proper power supply will be possible next month for $2.6K

    • hoping 4080 vanilla gets to around 1500 again like earlier last year, but aint holding my breath.

if the performance gap from the 70 Ti S to 80/S isnt much (waiting for results) seems to make sense to me to go fo the former at less than 1500 hopefully once released and initial market settles a bit

  • Overall, a lackluster announcement, as expected. People in the US might find some value in the 4070 Ti Super for new builds, but that's it. Price cut on the 4080 Super from the 4080 MSRP is encouraging, however, because it means not as many people bought the (horribly priced) 4080 as Nvidia expected.

I'm staying on Ampere until some sanity returns to the market. The 4080 price cut shows that consumers have power in this industry if they refuse to pay the asking price for long enough.

  • Good signs with the memory changes but I think ill wait for second hand 7900xtx to be cheaper.

  • Surely the AUD MSRP won't be reflective of street prices

    • +1

      thats what im wondering

I got my 4070ti new for $1040 off CA eBay deal, these prices are just crazy

  • +1

Just saw someone from the UK post on a forum that the cheapest AIB he could find was a base model Zotac and Gainward for 579 pounds and that's what the NV UK's website listed their MSRP at too so I am thinking it's going to be the same for us now…

      • +2

Sh!t eh…you can get a vanilla 4070TI at that price and it’s still the better card.

I mean there are still time for things to change but I’m even more certain now that me jumping on the MSI 4080 Gaming X Slim at $1649 was the right move.

        • +2

Australian Pricing for the 4080 Supers look bleak. I think you made a really good decision.

Will you be using your new 4080 on… NBA 2k? :P

        • +1

Yeah I think your logic is sound. I think people will be HODL'ing quite a bit longer.

          • +1

@dnvrngts: I think you're right too and there's nothing wrong with that, everyone's got their own priorities and how much they're willing to spend.

If I didn't make the move to a 3440x1440 21:9 monitor last year I'd happily stayed on with my 3080 (which I actually got a really good price for as well brand new). I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit mad that I let myself spend $1.6K on a GPU lol…

As I stated when I posted the 4080 deal the other day I believe the Super cards only make sense if you're planning to snag one at/near launch because if you're hoping to wait for a sale to bring the prices down later in the year then it'll be getting a bit too close to the 50 series launch in which case you might as well HODL a bit longer and chances are it'll come out overpriced and you'd be waiting longer again.

            • +1

@basketballfreak6: Yep agree. I got a 4080 and play 1440p and 4K (mainly PUBG which runs better on NVIDIA cards), plus already have 750w PSU so don't need to upgrade, not too worried about vram as developers will mostly create games with that in mind for at least the next few years.

              • +2

@dnvrngts: 100% I think as long as it's within your means and you know exactly what you're after/need just spend the money and be happy otherwise it'll just be this endless loop of holding out for the next best thing.

              • +1

@dnvrngts: Looks like we're vindicated given the 4070ti Super's performance

                • +1

@dnvrngts: Mate could not be happier that I took the punt on the 4080 (even if I hate myself for spending that much money on a graphics card lol).

CP2077 and AW2 looks phenomenal maxed out with PT and HDR and as someone that was openly skeptical/critical of FG/fake frames it’s actually working gangbusters as much as I hate (but surprised and happy) to admit it.

  • +1

Watching HUB’s review on the 4070 Ti Super right now while I’m getting ready for work and oh boi those numbers not looking good barely any improvements over vanilla 4070 Ti.

    • Pretty disappointing results, even with HUB’s revised review. 16gb was never really it’s limiting factor.

I think the way to go now is a discounted $1500ish 4080 (Centrecom is selling the Galax for $1570) or the 4080S

      • +2

I think discounted vanilla 4080 is the way to go if you’re after roughly this price/performance tier; 4070 Ti Super has shown that the performance increase has not quite correlated with the improved specs so I don’t think there’s any hope for the 4080 Super and it becomes a question of why you’d pay $300 extra just for the “Super” moniker.

I will say using the 4080 for a week now it’s better than I anticipated; running AW2 and CP2077 both maxed out with path tracing is stunning looking and I’m sitting mostly at ~80 FPS on 3440x1440 resolution using frame generation.

  • The MSI Ventus 3X that HUB used has massive firmware issues

Daniel Owen has the better review comparing ASUS cards for both the Ti and Ti Super

+10% generally, superior 1% lows and +15-20% on the heavier titles which is the whole point of a 16GB card

    • Yea it's interesting; Steve even stated that he tested the ASUS card too but didn't bother changing the review as it only had like 1% improvement but Daniel Owen's testing showed otherwise, wonder what happened there?

  • +1

Tomorrow is the big day. The 4080 Super goes on sale!

    • +1

As I predicted people should only be waiting for the 4080S for the price cut, except it’s not even a price cut in Australia, sad.

      • +1

Yeah, super overpriced! PNY4080 showed lots of stock at MSY/Umart/PC Byte stores before it got pulled hrs before the Super release. Curious to see if we get more sales with the vanillas + bundled with a game promo

        • +1

It’s such a shame because they really are good cards. My 4080 performs better than I had anticipated in pretty much all fronts it’s just the price that’s disappointing but market dominance plus recent AI boom allows them to keep charging stupid prices. I think other issue too is Australia I’d imagine is just a small market for them so we’re also more of an after thought.

          • +1

@basketballfreak6: Glad to hear that you’ve been enjoying that 4080 more and more. How’s the power consumption of the gaming slim? Do you hear much noise coming from the card?

I think they’ll keep the 4080 super priced high with limited stock in Australia

            • +1

@Julius: Mate haven’t checked actual power consumption per se but card is pretty much silent even under load; granted I’ve turned the aircon on during gaming since it’s been so hot (I’m in Brisbane) but the card pretty much stays below 70 degrees the whole time (only seen it hit 70 very, very occasionally). Another surprising bonus is the card is advertised to have an OC boost clock of 2610MHz but mine hits 2790MHz for some strange reason (unless AB reading is incorrect). Final cherry on top is the fact that frame generation works surprisingly well coming from someone who was a skeptic. I get that reviewers are meant to be critical and over-analyse but sometimes I think it can actually be a disservice to consumers because unless you’re making side by side slide show scrutinising the frames I very much doubt you’re going to notice any difference apart from the very occasional oddities here and there. I don’t notice any latency issues (I don’t play e-sport games though) and games feels smooth as butter with it on along with G-sync (frame time graph looks very flat). Alan Wake 2 maxed out with Path Tracing on hits 100 FPS in central town hub area and hits consistently 70-90 FPS in the heavily forested Cauldron Lake area.

It really is all in all a great card except Nvidia f@cked it up with price and got bailed out by the AI boom which is also the reason why I don’t think we’ll see any meaningful price cuts even if the Super don’t sell well unless it’s during like eBay sales and certain vendors forget to price jack (which was how I scored my 3080 below US MSRP lol).

              • +1

@basketballfreak6: Haha, hope you have the right case to match the humidity! I’ve on the lookout for a new case and rising reviewer Kleo Yan popped on my radar. Guy lives in Singapore and with the humidity, he recommends the King 95 Pro. Pretty great value with all the fans and ARGB hub included. That said, 70 degrees is really good for a higher end card. Are you enjoying Alan Wake? I’m currently engrossed in BG3 but I’m starting to see some enticing deals on Alan Wake 2 on OzBargain (surprising how cheap it is, with it being such a new game).

                • +1

@Julius: One of the quickest I've finished a game in many years lol, though I was a huge fan of the first one. I'd say just like the original functional game play but visuals, atmosphere and storytelling is top notch and since it links many of Remedy's universes together it definitely adds to the enjoyment if you have played their other games. Even if you've never played the first one I reckon it's worth playing the remaster or at least just watch a story line video and get straight into AW2 which is definitely worth playing, one of the most creative games in a long time IMHO. I think price drops/possibly poor sales' due to people's vendetta against Epic exclusivity except in their defense they did actually fund the development of this game.

BG3 OTOH is something I'm keen to get try too but afraid to commit just yet lol.
