Gas Bottle Swap N Go system - QLD

Hey everyone

I have a gas bottle I bought from BBQs Galore that i get refilled but I want to get into the swap n go system.

From my understanding on the Elgas website I can take my empty bottle to Bunnings etc and swap it over to get into the Swap N go system. It seems I can take any gas bottle of the same size.

However bunnings are telling me they won't accept my gas bottle.

Does anyone know how this system works? Is bunnings spitting truth and I have to buy a whole new bottle?

Go to Coles Express or a Servo that does it. The attendants just give you the key to the cage.

I did it for an "expired" gas bottle. Went to Coles Express and just swapped it over for a fresh one.

    • So just go in and ask for an exchange, pay, grab the keys and throw my bottle in the cage, grab a fresh one and walk off?

It works as you say it does on the website, you can 'swap' any bottle expired or not as long as its the same size, aka 8.5kg for a 8.5kg. Doesn't have to be their bottle. You can swap and upgrade too by paying a fee.

Basically they will paint it, label it and test it as required for any empty bottle.

I would try bunnings again at a different time with a different worker.

  • How old is the bottle? They have a limited lifespan as stamped on the bottle. Many places won’t accept an out of date bottle for a swap because it costs them more to have recertified or disposed and replaced.

If you do get an ‘easy’ exchange, check the expiry date on the bottle and make sure it’s going to last l no enough.

Also Swap and go is easier, but can cost more than a refill.

Yeah nah…. They 'swap' out of date bottles, its even on the website

Does SWAP’n’GO accept out-of-date BBQ gas cylinders?
Yes, we can accept BBQ gas cylinders that are past their expiry for no charge. Where possible we will always try to recycle out-of-date cylinders by refurbishing them, inspecting and retesting them at our certified test stations, and then stamping them with a new test date.

Careful you don't get a bottle with the new connection

    • But my ancient BBQ connects to an LCC27. Is there something else new?

Would need an adapter for LCC27?

        • New appliances have LCC27 regulators but the cylinders have been changing over since April 2021, we just haven't noticed.

    • Why? It’s backwards compatible.

  • Why though? Refill is cheaper than swapping. I refill at BCF for $25 and the price has been the same for last 2 years, inflation proof.
