Past Deals

I've noticed some people are making comments on old deals (ranging up to 2 years old). They might've mistakenly thought that it's a recent deals because some part (eg. recent comments) in the ozbargain blog only shows the date eg. 2 July, which could means as this year's deal or even be a 5 years old deal (if ozbargain blog really is that old).

Saying so, I am one that have been caught in this situations many times, or is it just me? Just my 2 cents.

How old is Ozbargain by the way? :)

  • John, OzBargain started up in November last year, so it's nearly 8 months old.

    • Is that just the website or the blog as well? I guess I've seen some posting tracking down to year 2005 in the Ozbargain Blog.

  • Maybe the blog? Just that over the past two days I have thousands of visitors trying to get the Kmart and Big W toy sale catalogue all landed on my blog post last year. However I understand that it is also quite possible here, people searched something on the net and found themselves at a bargain page that was a few months old.

I shall display something like "Warning: This deal is at least 3 months out of date" for old deals. I guess 3 months is a good time range?

    • I think it could happen if people are just googling for a deal and ended up in ones that have the same date as today's but was actually years ago. And yes, I only noticed this happen in the blog especially during this end of financial year, which happens almost at the same times of every year.

I guess three months is indeed a good range. They should notice the date once they see the Warning.

  • I have just had this "feature" implemented. There will be a little warning box above the content if deals are over 90 days old.

As you can see, easy ones always get implemented first :)

    • Cool! I'm glad that it was easy. :)

  • Hi Scotty,

can you also implement it, for features that have an expiry date which has past?

Also, another suggestion is to upgrade the search facility, with an option to handle expiry dates. Default: exclude expired; Other choices: only expired, regardless of expiry (or something)

    Kind regards, gotta run
