Almond milk

There's a Sanitarium soy milk special starting Wed. Have there been any specials on almond milk of any brand? 20% off The Almond Breeze brand occured a couple of weeks ago at Coles, but I'm not aware of any other specials.

Cheers

  • How does it taste compared to skim and soy milk? Thinking of changing my diet and exercise regime to lose a few kilos.

    • Choice did a test a few months ago:

Taste you just have to try it yourself.

Also, are a lot of the joules in your diet coming from milk? If not, then this substitution isn't going to make much difference. You have to examine your diet to see where most of your energy is coming from. And remember that it might have added sugar, always read the composition panel.

    • I've only tried the Sanitarium Almond Milk: I find it quite sweet compared to all other milks, the texture is smooth but nowhere near as creamy as cows milk (thus not so great for making a latte), the aroma is quite pleasant as you might expect, which is probably the best feature — most soy milks smell a bit like wet plaster.
a general point: I would never opt for any ready-made milk substitutes if you are doing it for dietary reasons — the majority contain a lot of additives inc. sugar and vegetable oils. however, for ethical reasons (ie. maltreatment of calves), or because of lactose intolerance, then they are a good option.
making your own is easily the best of all, if you have a cheap supply of almonds.

  • +1

I understand you can make your own rather easily.

  • .

  • Have just recently switched to Almond Milk and I really like it, wish it wasn't so expensive though. It has been on special at Woolies the last couple of weeks, the Sanitarium one. It was about 70cents off when I got some last week but not sure if its still on special though sorry.

  • Really easy to make - see

    Almond milk is yummy!

  • What city do you live in, OP? Maybe someone can direct you to a cheap source of almonds? It does look VERY easy to make. I think I'll try making it just to see what it tastes like. Here in Perth, you can get almonds as low as $8 a kilo. I am sure that the eastern states have lower prices.

    • Sydney. Good point. What's a cheap source of almonds in Sydney and the various capital cities? Believe it or not, prices are higher in Sydney, I think.

      • I don't believe it. Anyway, there will be some ethnic type food store that sells almonds and other items in bulk (ie scoop what you want and they weigh it) for a fraction of what you'd pay in a normal store for some pissy amount in a presealed bag.

  • Very easy to make with a thermomix

    • or with a stick mixer or food processor.

    • wow — you use a $2,000 blender and you're a regular on OzBargain ?!?

      • Lol its much more than a blender and one of my best purchases yet :D

      • wow — you use a $2,000 blender and you're a regular on OzBargain ?!?

Could have bought it with money they'd saved on Ozbargain?? Or sold a few and got one free??

      • im sure alwaysis bought it for less than retail.

  • So Good Almond Milk, tastes amazing. I buy them by the box when they are on special for $2 each compared to the normal price of $3.49. Woolworths and Coles have had them on special a total of 3 times in the past 3-4 months.

    • Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye out for them. I've been drinking soy milk for the past couple of years and have just recently investigaged almond milk.

How do you find them on special - do you have to look yourself or the Coles/Woolworths post identify them?

      • You sound so damned lazy.

        • I was going to ask IndecentExposure to PM me when s/he sees them on sale, until I get used to it. ;-)

        • +1

Maybe they will wash your car too.

      • Yeah haha, you don't sound like a frequent visitor. A simple search in every week's top 50 specials post will reveal if it's there or not.
