Google Store Incorrect Price Match

EDIT - I got the proper refund today!

Long story short, yesterday I bought a Pixel 8 Pro from the Google store ($1699) thinking I could price match Officeworks ($1337) — did this to get an extra $250 Google credit.

I submitted the OW link last night and of course their price went up overnight and it's now $1697. So yeah, Google issued me a $2 refund.

What are my chances of getting the right refund? Google asks for a live link (not screenshots etc) for price matching it's not my fault if they looked at it the next day?

I know I can just return it when it's delivered but it's rather annoying.

    Life's annoying , there's bigger problems coming our way . Thats a promise !

So you expected the Australian team to work at night, just to process your price match?

Next time just get it from the store that has the best price. Price matching is a privilege not a right.

    • Well i thought google is a global company and not like a physical store where it closes at 5pm. I guess i was wrong, lesson learnt.

      • Google is a global company but why would the global team deal with an Australian price match?

Take your L and move on I feel is your only option.

What are my chances of getting the right refund?

    Zero

Google asks for a live link (not screenshots etc) for price matching

Fair enough, Photoshop is a thing

it's not my fault if they looked at it the next day?

Well it is, you did say

I submitted the OW link last night

So you submitted it after Australian business hours but blame Google for not looking at it till the next business day?

Did you not look when the OW sale ended?

Tbh i didnt check the end date of the sale. And i thought google is a global company, didnt realise they only operate 9-5pm? 🤣

      • It's unreasonable to think they would work 24/7.

Before buying, you could have raised a case with google for price match.
The support team then generates a reference number and start an email thread where they confirm that price match will be done. This locks in the price for match, incase price changes.
Then you buy from google store and wait for item to be shipped.
Once shipped, then reply to that email and google credit is added to your account.

Above was explained to me by support team over call and I followed the process and all went fine.

May be a learning to reach out to retailer with your intention of price match.

Btw : For my price match, I reached support after hours and got the call back within 5 mins

    • Thanks for that. Guess i jumped the gun because the google store credit promo ended yeaterday. Plus they explicitly said "The advertised price must still be in effect when you request the adjustment." (Not when they check it?)
