Dick Smith TV Not Displaying H264 Encoded TV Channels

Hi, purchased a Dick Smith LCD TV 9 years ago as a TV for rumpus room.

Recently noticed that the picture for some TV channels is no longer being displayed but audio is coming through. These channels are encoded using h264 and I get the message invalid format. I’m guessing this encoding only recently started being used for TV channels.

Anyone know if the TV can be upgraded to support this format?

Thanks

It must have been an older model TV at the time of purchase.

No upgrade available to my knowledge.

Could get a Google TV / firestick etc to stream the channels you want over the internet.

Same with me, more channels are getting cut over and the TV only plays audio. I read about it online and found you will need to either upgrade your TV or use a set top box to get the channels working again. Good thing I don't watch free-to-air TV myself.

Must be a very old TV as I had the same problem with a TV that I bought 15 years ago when they upgraded the HD channels encoding about 10 years ago. Solved by getting a STB.

I’d say less than 10 years old

TV cannot be upgraded. No manufacturer supports a 9 year old TV.

        Cheap STB.

My in-laws' 10+ year old Panasonic Plasma needed a toggle in settings to scan in the h264 channels. It wasn't easy to find.
It was referred to as the following on their TV
    "Add MPEG-4 AVC Channels"

Unlikely to be able to on a Dick Smith TV. The cheapest way to receive all the FTA channels via an antenna is with a set top box. Something like this. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/laser-stb-9000-digital-set-t…

It's going to happen to more channels in the near future if not all because the Gov want to do another spectrum restack in the next few years.
