  • Thanks. I'll give it a look.

    • let me know what you think!

  • +3

Gotta tick the "associated" box when posting for stores you work at or own.

  • +4

Thanks OP. It will be awesome if you can include integrations with it. I always want to use this type of app, but "find the phone, unlock the phone, open the app, search habit, press done" every time throws me off.

The most basic integration would be with smart watches. The second most useful will be integration with some API. At the end of the day, i want to be able to press a physical button, scan an nfc tag, cross some sensor, be in a GPS coordinate… and any of it make my counter going up :)

    • +1

Good ideas for the future, thank you!

  • Sorry to have to ask, but how do we apply the code? I went into "Redeem Code" as part of the Google pay flow, but it said "OZBARGAIN" is invalid

    • +1

You can get the prime for free if you go to settings, tap app version three times and then enter the code "OZBARGAIN" in the field.

  • Nice, thanks. Was thinking about looking for an app to track some of my things I want to get done. Will check it out.

    • Awesome! Good luck reaching your goals!

How is your app different to the other habit trackers available? What's the best feature on your app?

    • +4

Best feature is the proprietary algorighm with how habit strength is calculated. And also multi device data sync which most apps lack, and widgets. Most of all, I am giving it away for for free to you, which nobody else does.

  • +1

UI looks exactly the same as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/821630
Any difference if we got that deal?

    • I am not familiar with that app, but just from the glance it lacks homescreen widgets, data sync and a lot of other features that Disciplined provides.

      • +2

What about Prosper? You've posted the exact same app before but with a different name. What happened in the last 3 weeks?
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819775

        • +3

Prosper is not a habit tracker, Prosper is a Daily planner. There are a lot of things that make a habit tracker different.

  • +2

Looks good, nice clean interface. A couple of suggestions though:
    - When you look at the heatmap for a habit or under statistics, it opens with Sep-Dec showing. Would be good have the chart focus on the current day so you don't have to scroll over, and/or be able to see the whole year on the same screen.
    - I can't seem to find a way to enter a habit that I want to do a certain number of times per week, unless it's on specific days. Would be good to put in something like exercise three times per week without it having to be on Mon/Wed/Fri for example.
    - The graph for a specific habit seems to have something amiss. I've entered a habit with 4 days of history, but the x axis on the graph shows "15 Dec…14 Jan…04 Jan"

    • +2

      Thank you.
      - I will fix the heat map and release an update this week.
      - You can select "weekly" period and then select how many times per week you want to do it.
      - I will take a look at it.

I will be releasing some additional features this week, so you can expect these fixes aswell.

      • Awesome to have such an engaged developer like you. Keep up the good work

While testing out the app, I found a few unexpected behaviours
        - after creating a few habits (3 in my cases), there were 2 of the same prompt (What type of a habit?) that appeared. One appeared behind the 2nd one, and zoomed out together with the main screen
        - after creating a habit, the above prompt did not disappear. I expected it to after I save a habit. The app behaviour is only useful if you are trying to enter multiple habits at once which is quite rare
        - the week starts on Monday but heatmap starts Sunday
        - it would be cool to have statistics exported as mentioned by user daredevilboy

    • +2

      Really good suggestions!
Came to write basically the same.

      Plus the following:

      • Ability to export csv with all the granular data. If someone wants to play with it. For now, it seems only habits list with attributes are exported.
      • The zip file has a sessions file which shows when you completed a habit

But I absolutely agreed with you. Exported data is so barebone, and it is not useful unless you are familiar with database tables and put some work to make it useful

Nad no statistics data is currently exported either

    1. Is it the same with your Prosper app (ozbargain post) that you need to create an account to save lifetime subscription? Otherwise deleting the app would void lifetime

    2. Is there a way to extract my data or habit statistics?

    • +1
      1. basically, yes. If you do not create an account, you will have to enter the code every time you install the app.

      2. There is a data export option in the account menu.

      • +3

Is there any way to still get the other app Prosper? I was thinking of using them both in tandem for new year

        • +2

PROGRESS - new code for prosper, Confirmed working today! :)

  • Some comments:
    1. I could enter as a guest without accepting terms and conditions - is this intended?
    2. Why no log in with facebook like the goodold tinder way from back in the day?
    3. Should you allow a login with mobile number - could be useful for gathering data as long as you can keep it safe / within terms

The over all UX is quite simple which is really good. Could you give some common habits as suggestions without negatively impacting the ux?

Honestly the hardest thing is to actually get into the habit of tracking these things. If you can figure out multiple ways to automate this it would make it so much more valuable (I saw someone mentioned connecting to fitness tracking which is a great idea!).

I'll make an account and actually start using it for the next few weeks and DM you some more feedback. New Year New Me so got me at the right time ;)

Edit: PS what's the difference between free version and non-free version?

    • +1

When I tried to change the icon/colour for a habit (the locked ones), it showed these as premium features
      - widgets
      - statistics
      - recurring habits
      - advanced notifications
      - unlimited color themes
      - multi device data sync
      - data export to CSV

  • thanks mate! incidentally I want to visit OzB less, definitely became a habit !! :)

    Thanks for sharing.

I'm a Clinical Psychologist and frequently recxommend a few apps that I've found helpful around habit development (in particular, I frequently recommend Alarmy, Freedom, and Todoist).

The issue I have with most habit tracking apps (those that I've tried) is the lack of good widget support. When someone needs to actually open a habit tracking app manually, I find that they are much less likely to stick with it, compared to the old-school method of a big piece of paper stuck on the fridge (which also has other benefits including a certain degree of visible accountability to other household members). Good widget support (i.e., the ability to have the habit tracking on the phone home screen, or one swipe away at all times) could change the tide of this preference.

I'll have a proper crack at this app over the next month, with my own habit goals. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like any feedback.

I think that some basic information around successful habit formation, included as an educational component, could also be helpful to your users. As a basic example, most people tend to be overly ambitious in setting habit development goals (e.g., I want to go to from being sedentary to going to the gym 4 times per week). As a variety of books in recent years have established (e.g., Atomic Habits, and especially Tiny Habits), success is much more likely to come when incredibly basic goals that are nearly impossible to fail are used in the first few initial weeks.

Other apps (e.g., AppBlock) similarly include educational components to enhance user success. Just an idea. I have other ideas as well, but am mindful that app development is not my area of expertise. However, there is very good research demonstrating that accountability to another person can greatly enhance habit development. This could be incorporated into the app with the ability to send a weekly report of goal progress to another person. Sure, some people might argue that this kind of extrinsic motivation is less helpful than fostering intrinsic motivation, but I'm of the belief that both can be helpful.

I have a lot more that I would be happy to discuss when it comes to concepts that could facilitate habit development, but I'm careful not to offer too much unsolicited advice (especially as you might also be an expert in this subject). However, as this is a particular area of interest to me, and as someone invested in the development of a good habit tracking app that I can recommend to others, I'd be more than happy to offer a combination of suggestions and feedback.

On a completely separate note, some unsolicited advice to other Ozbargainers interested in developing new habits in the new year, I would very strongly recommend combining this app with a blocking app (e.g., Freedom or AppBlock). The reasons for this, as well as the benefits, is too large a topic to detail here, but if interested then see Andrew Huberman's material on dopamine and motivation.

  • Thanks OP got it. Is there an option to set alarm for those tasks?

  • In terms of actual habits, the three options (Task, Amount & Time) are quite limiting. Breaking it down to the most basic habit, if I want to remind myself to drink water ever hour on the hour of a waking day, I need to set anywhere between 8-12 habit reminders per day. If there was a way to have a single habit be repeating in a set interval (i.e. every hour) per day, it would make the app feel more streamlined.

    But great starting point!

I have a habit of downloading and activating all these lifetime free app deals on ozbargain; but never using them…

Can Disciplined help me with that? =)

  • -1

i just use a ios calendar, but nice UI

    • How do you use a calendar to track habits? I can see how you schedule activities but it will be probably tricky to know how often or last time you did an activity or whether you achieved your goals

      • +1

Its the same concept, you just do, and clear the notifications. Sure it does not remind you after the time has passed, so i can see this helping people that miss tasks

        • I need to use calendar more

  • I see we're able to export our data so I'll give it a go.
I'm always worried about entering data into an app only to have no way to save the data in some way in the future.
    Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing. It runs very smooth although I did have a bug. On calendar view when I click to add a track the half screen popup appears both full width and in inner calendar container.

  • Trying to find it on app store, typing "disciplined" and its not appear in top result.
I need to scroll the the bottom to find it.

  • And a Happy New Year to you too, Big Brother.

  • I use my google calendar through the aCalendar+ (best android calendar app and i've tried lots)

  • This is great! Can't wait to try it. A few questions as I play around with the app:
    1. Is there a way to re-order the habits? There are some that are morning habits which would be helpful to have at the top.
    2. Is there a way to tick off habits in the widget without it opening up the app?

  • any difference between using the lifetime code GREATNESS
    vs Ozbargain?

I assume its just so you can track the numbers

  • Thanks!

I'm a bit confused by the quit habit option, it seems the same as the build habit option? The app is saying I have a 1 day smoking streak which I don't want to celebrate lol.

  • Must congratulate and thank you for this, so far loving it. Simple, powerful and does the job.

  • Is there something like this but for mood and psychological states? EG specify a mental state such as anhedonia and rate how severe it is on a daily basis (since psychological states aren't static but fluctuate to a certain degree).

  • Not sure about others, but I haven't been able to sign up for an account on any Apple devices. Only the login button exists. Also, the code isn't working on my Mac, iPad or iPhone

  • +1

currently using TickTick ill give this a try

  • Hi OP, any extension to this deal? 😅

  • Oooh any extension in this deal? I used Prosper and loved it - hope I can test this one out too!
