Does Boost Mobile Still Have Best 4G Coverage of The Telstra MVNOs?

I am looking for a Telstra network SIM only deal and currently choosing between ALDI Mobile and Boost.

  1. Boost advertise using the full Telstra network - is this still the case?
  2. Are there any other Telstra MVNOs that offer same coverage?

Based in Brisbane but like to explore areas west like Warwick down to Tenterfield (Granite Belt) and would like the most 4G coverage there is.

Well it would be false advertising if it wasn't the case.

All MVNOs that use Telstra are limited to the Telstra Wholesale network, which isn't the 'full' network that 'Telstra/Boost' uses.

Not sure if it still roams in Roma.
But the coast does have 5G.

I have an iPhone 14 running Woolworths Mobile on one sim and Telstra on the other.

They do claim that Telstra and Boost are the same, but Woolworths/Aldi are on the Telstra wholesale network.

I have personally never seen a difference between the reception of the two sims. Based on the map they provide, you'll only see a difference in super remote locations.

  • Oh those two criteria amount to “best coverage”? Would think title better be “full telstra 4G coverage” instead.

Because for best coverage i would also care about call drop outs in between Warwick down to Tenterfield. do you care about data speed and congestion?

  • I get 5G+ on boost

boost have been the worst ive had for call quality and dropouts… couldnt wait to get away from them.

    • who did you move to?

Never lock into a long terms plan.

Aldi / Telstra wholesale are noticeably worse than Boost, especially in regional areas.

It all depends on where you live and where you normally travel day-to-day. Yes, Telstra retail (on which Boost operates) overall has greater coverage than for example, Optus, but there are areas where Optus will have signal and Telstra won't.

Check the telco's coverage map to see if it'll suit your needs, here's Telstra's. It looks like the highway from Warwick QLD to Tenterfield NSW has decent coverage along it, but get off the highway too far and you'll probably lose signal.

  • /We have 4 phones on boost. and it used to be epic… the rate limits now are rediculous. 5G is a joke. I am not renewing boost I think… It may have more coverage, but the throughput in data is LOW QoS… i./e. my anecdotal test ing says any full paying TELSTRA phone is prioritised over TELSTRA subsidiary boost… Telstra bought boost in house a little while ago and ther service has deterioated terribly and the cost have shot up.

Miss the old boost and QoS priviledges it had. Boost is not the same (at least in WA)

  • The Telstra Wholesale network is fine.
particularly for business customers as Voice is still prioritized and data is generally pretty quick. You won't notice any difference between the two networks unless you go to the middle of no-where and even then you would be using Satellite or something else then anyway.

  • Most issues with Telstra come with local congestion rather then the network itself.
You notice this in tourist areas over the summer holidays.
Data speeds will drop to being slow and you get more dropouts etc.
Generally the network itself is fine.
