Covering Return Freight Cost of Item (eBay etc)

I will need to purchase a spare part from China or USA that may not be compatible with my equipment (CNC). So far I have found the part on Alibaba & eBay. The part is about AU$220 + about AU$60 freight.

Getting accurate information on the part has proven very difficult (they sell the parts, and that is about it). Therefore it could end up being 50/50 chance that it will need to be returned, and I am guessing returning the part from Australia with tracking will likely be more than the $60 they are charging to ship it over (and will need to include tracking).

I seem to remember reading that eBay & possibly other online portals cover the return cost of items purchased under certain conditions.

Anyone able to offer advice?

Thank you

  • Ebay & possibly other online portals cover the return cost of items purchased under certain conditions.

For eBay, they'll only cover the cost of shipping back some eBay Plus items, and it's not fully covered.

See discussions on https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2767027 and https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9kpyjw6r
    and also read https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/buying-ebay-plus/buying-…

Items purchased from overseas are never eligible for eBay Plus though (their criteria is such that only local sellers can be eligible for EB+).

So ebay will not be paying the cost of shipping anything back to China.

LOL Welcome to a world of pain, these onlines stores are not covered under Australian laws in most cases, so YMMV.

So it will be up to the seller IF they will even accept a change of mind return once the part has been opened. On ebay you might be ok, on Aliexpress/Alibaba, LOL they'll fight you to the death before accepting it back.

If the seller will accept a return, you will be paying for the freight costs on a change of mind return back to the country it was shipped from with tracking. So maybe do a price up on what that will cost you, as it is generally far more to ship it back than it is for them to ship it to you.

Buy the part elsewhere that you know it will fit the first time, even if it costs more.

If you buy it and it doesn't match your requirement, hopes and dreams…

Just sell it on eBay.com.au to recover the money you have wagered.

    • Yep. It's called skin in the game.

If you know roughly how much it weighs you can find out the shipping cost back to China
