Tips/Recommendation for Bali in Aug

Hey everyone, I will be travelling with my 6 year old to Bali solo(staying at Clubmed) in Aug. I am seeking recommendation for the following as it will be our first time! Super excited and anxious at the same time as we hear mixed reviews for Bali.

  • Any good and fun restaurants that kids will love and see?
  • Any good tour guide/recommendation to places that is a must to see? (Def not keen to line up for hours for a picture type of places)
  • Any good photographer that could take pictures of us during the tour or within the resort
  • What should I be mindful about Bali's culture?
  • To anyone that has stayed in Clubmed in Bali, what activities do you suggest or it's a must to do?
  • What should I be bringing in terms of clothing, medicine and other specific items?

Thank you all :)

  • If you're thinking of getting travel insurance, add this supplier to your quote list: https://www.insureandgo.com.au

    • Do people not have credit card travel insurance? Or is there something missing in that?

      • Not everyone has a card that includes travel cover; some insurance is activated only if you spend on the card; many travellers don't purchase insurance.

  • Organise your passports now. Unless of course you already have them. They currently have a huge wait time.

What should I be mindful about Bali's culture?

The people are extremely welcoming in general.

If visiting temples, dress modestly. You may be required to wear a sarong in some sites. Definitely no shorts and tank tops at these temples.

If visiting Uluwatu or Monkey Forest, beware of macaque monkeys. They are very used to people/tourists and can be aggressive if they think you have food. At Uluwatu, they will snatch sunglasses, hats, small bags, cameras or phones to get you to bribe them with food to drop the object. Leave them well alone, they can and do bite. Their bites are serious and may require rabies treatment.

  • Be aware of the new visa and related costs. Also the electronic customs card.

    • No longer the $50 visa on arrival?

      • Think it is but coming in off a cruise we had to have it done in advance. Website down for maintenance atm.

      We were there in November.

Visa on Arrival $AU51 per person. Can pay in $AU, change given in Indonesian rupiah (with a very mediocre exchange rate, so make sure you have $55 in notes, coins not accepted.

Do the Customs Declaration online within 48hrs before you leave. You get a QR code to either print or save to your phone which is scanned as you go through Customs. Easy, and sped the process up hugely. Those who didn't seem to be taking ages.

      • Thank you so much! I was unaware we needed visa.

  • Is it too late to rebook to anywhere but there?

    1. Don't do it.
    2. If you must do it, don't be a bogan.
    3. If you must so it and be a bogan, don't get on a scooter.
    4. If you must do it and get on a scooter while being a bogan, don't expect Gofundme to bail you out of trouble.
    • Gufundme always comes through for travellers with injuries that meet the editorial threshhold of Nationwide News Pty Ltd

  • Oh god,

Are you sure you're prepared to leave the country?

  • Don't climb through construction sites on the sidewalk, just cross the road and go around. Don't bring drugs with you.

  • go to a stretch class. the best in the business

getting a photographer to follow you around on holidays..is that a thing now?

    • Our driver on the Bali Safari took photos for us. I guess it beats sitting in the van all day!

  • We were in movenpick bali in jimbaran, my 5 year old loved the pool and kids club there. The resort has a photographer and they do photo shoot within the hotel for you and your family. you can get the photos done and if you are not happy there is no obligation to buy. But if you do want to buy, make sure you negotiate for the price dont pay what they tell you.Just enquire with the hotel regarding the photographer. The photographer in this hotel also does the other 5 star hotels so they are not employed by the hotel

  • Hi, bring antihistamine, panadol, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhoea, sunscreen, after byte cream, tampons.
Tampons, sunscreen and after sun are very expensive in Bali.
Rest of the stuff is super cheap! Even mosquito repellent, shampoos etc all cheap.
Also sign up for UP debit card. I could withdraw money from Mandiri totally free. You can withdraw $200 worth already at the airport. I tried another bank (I can’t remember the name) and they warned there was a fee (I think about $5 to withdraw $300 so pretty hefty but I needed cash so I had to pay) If you use UP at Mandiri there are 0 fees and that’s going to save you to bring cash, negotiate etc. I also tapped often and again no charges.
