What Are People's Views about The Haval Jolion?

Does anyone here own Haval Jolion? What is your view about this car?

The car tech and overall features look very appealing based on the pricing and 7 years warranty.

It would really help me if you can also comment why you think this car is trouble maker.

    Would've bought a H6 if i didn't want to go through my 4wding phase.

Have an LDV D90 because i don't mind being a guinea pig and nothing really came close spec wise (panoramic sunroof, diff lockers, heated seats, carplay, 7 seats, 4wd). The other option was a clapped out 10 year old Prado. The forums will be full of a vocal minority complaining that it's not perfect, but pretty much every model of car has its issues - looking at you europeans…

Honestly the GWM's (Haval) seem to be coping really well relative to the SAIC vehicles (LDV & MG) which i don't believe were tested in Australia prior to bringing them in.
Don't be too phased by those who haven't bought them with the ChINa bAd narrative, at the end of the day they're taking market share for good reason. You should be able to push them harder on pricing as well, they seem to be a little more difficult to move (due to people's apprehension). The 7 year warranty though will be more than enough for peace of mind.

Technology & value wise nothing really comes close, just be prepared for more depreciation than the Koreans/Japanese. At the end of the day drive it and make up your mind. The first generation chinese cars (2012-2018ish) were pretty rubbish, they've learnt a fair bit (and have copied a lot of technology/finishes directly from the europeans) - some good and some bad.

They are taking market share because too many stupid people buy on price.

Buy something really cheap, which turns into a nightmare with an ignored warranty, costing FAR MORE plus pain and suffering than had the the buyer bought a jap car to begin with.

You did read my statement didnt you?

This seems more like an emotional china bashing statement rather than one coming from experience.

Toyota haven't exactly had a perfect record

And even Hyundai will hang you out to dry and only acted after a class action.

And dont get me started on Jeeps, Vw's, Bmw's etc. Money definitely does not equal reliability.

Once you take off the rose tinted glasses you realise that every car is a roll of the dice.

      • Probably better than -

Yep, european drivers are masochists. "Oh but at the end of the day i get to drive a Range Rover"

The 7 year warranty though will be more than enough for peace of mind.

Then after 7 seven years of battling warranty claims you're left to pay out of pocket.

The Chinese themselves don't even buy their own cars unless they're either patriotic or financially challenged. They typically buy Japanese or European if they're after something more fancy.

    • they're taking market share for good reason

Record high inflation and cost of living crisis means people are willing to drive around in a car that just got ,0/5 safety rating (mg5).

McDonald's is also cheap. Doesn't mean it's good

      • -1

Like toyota, audi, volvo and mazda as well?

But they charge top dollar for the privilege of zero safety stars

        • -1

Did you even read the article that you posted or did you see the clickbait headline and just ignore the contents?

They don't have zero stars as a result of being tested, they are UNRATED because they haven't been rated to the new standards yet and the old standards have expired for those vehicles so they can't advertise 5/5 based on the old tests.

The MG5 WAS tested against the new standard and it received a RATING of 0 out of 5.

          but yeah, ok mate.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: The toyota still would automatically fail (get a zero) now because they dont have active collision avoidance which is what the MG lacks.

I don't own a Jolion but have driven one as a daily for 3 weeks.

Overall it's a fairly competent car but I wouldn't buy one. Among other reasons:

    • The dual clutch gearbox it uses is very average overall and sometimes it has huge lag - e.g. if coming to a stop and then accelerating, there's a delay of ~1 second before you get power again. Possibly a safety issue if you need to accelerate quickly to avoid a collision
    • The 'driver intelligence' is way too sensitive and thinks you're not looking ahead at the road when you actually are. It cannot be permanently disabled so you need to do it manually each time you start the car.
    • The other safety features such as lane keeping are too sensitive and try to keep you in the current lane when you've already indicated and are moving across to a turning lane etc.
    • Although it's pretty feature packed you still miss out on things, e.g. the touch sensor on the door handle for unlocking the car is only on the driver's side but not on passenger side, no jacket hook in the rear seat etc

It's not as refined as a equivalent Japanese or Korean brand (regardless of where they're made) so I would go with something different. 5 years from now I think the Chinese brands will have caught up though.

I find points 2&3 are common complaints in most modern cars.

What’s your daily drive? Are the driver assists better?

      • The point is the driver assists cannot be permanently disabled or changed on this car unlike virtually every other brand.

Plenty of people complaining about this in forums etc and it could easily be fixed with a software update except has hasn’t been, this should tell you enough about the company to avoid.

        • The point is the driver assists cannot be permanently disabled or changed on this car unlike virtually every other brand

This I find untrue. I’ve read nearly every brand, if you want to turn off those annoying assists, you gotta do it every time you start a car

      • I find points 2&3 are common complaints in most modern cars.

Agreed' ANCAP stipulating that every car needs ironically distracting driver safety aids have made it a headache from the point you start the car.

And yelp As for the delayed dual clutch, a lot of new cars, no matter the brand suffer from delayed starting due to the computerised throttle body actuation. Ford, kia, Hyunadai all have models that users have complained about the sluggish response.

      • Agree with 2&3.
We have a 2023 Kia and It does that stupid crap too, and you cannot turn it permanently off.
The worse is TSR and telling you off for speeding.

    • The 'driver intelligence' is way too sensitive and thinks you're not looking ahead at the road when you actually are.

This. 100%. I had one for a hire car to do a 600km round trip. Literally looking at the satnav or changing a radio station and all hell would break loose.

It was (profanity) infuriating to say the least and I would never buy one based on that alone.

What is your view about this car?
Where does the motorbike go? fkn sUv with no U space
    .

  • Awful gearbox. Weak engine. Thirsty on the fuel.

    • +1

      "weak engine"

That's everything now that isn't a sports car and even then it's questionable

  • Been in the back for a couple of uber trips. Not much head room to be comfortable. Other then that. The rest of the car looks alright.

  • My brother purchased one a little over a year ago. His experience is mostly ok for the price point. He loves the tech that is built into the car. Came from factory with paint defects which the dealership said they will fix. Has had an issue with the car not detecting the key when trying to start. I found the car to be very underwhelming in build quality and engine performance, it is what it is. I found it pretty boring to drive compared to my 2.2l elite diesel palisade.

I found it pretty boring to drive compared to my 2.2l elite diesel palisade

Thats a car 3 times its price and in a different size class altogether?

      • Half price, but pretty similar in size. The h6 is actually wider across the rear seats and very similar tech.

        • Leta not forget we're talking about a jolion here, largely a corolla on stilts

  • Had one as a hire car for 8 weeks which I recently returned.

Very bad, the lane assist feature is genuinely broken and incredibly annoying, it cannot be permanently disabled. You have to remember to turn it off each time getting in the car and it resets itself when you restart the engine.

This problem alone makes it a hard no and ruins any enjoyment of driving it.

  • warranty is (often) a marketing gimmick allowing the dealer to simply refuse it and blame the customer

    • Bingo

People think warranties are a safety net and dealers take advantage of this

A warranty won't protect you against a sub quality vehicle. You get what you pay for

  • Go drive it, sit in it, play with the controls and features. Make your own decision after comparing it with an equivalent Toyota or Hyundai.

Most people’s a concern with Haval is quality control and cheaper quality materials. There’s no doubt Chinese built cars have improved over the last few years and they aren’t up to the standard of Korean or Japanese cars yet.

Resale value is the other big issue that some people would have an issue with. Second hand market for these budget cars is not so good.

  • +2

Rent one for a week and give it a go

Don't get distracted by all the pretty tech and screens, that's the cheap"wow factor" stuff.

You'll quickly realise the build quality is bad, engine is laughable and the ride is rough

  • I own it - great car, no issues for the last years. Don't listen to the made in ChiNA haters here.

  • Haval Jolion - sounds like a new basketball player.

I had a rental on the Gold Coast in October.
I dont like microwaves, washing machines and rice cookers beeping, and this car didn't shut up. The beeping was nearly constant. I did manage the turn some of it off, but no, just no.
    Horrible, would not consider.
