anyone have severe runny nose + sneezing when taking Ibuprofen pills?

    • You could be the first?

      • Yep. Poor Me!

        • Just haven't heard of that reaction

Maybe have antihestamin with it haha

  • are Ibuprofen safe enough to take once per week

    • +6

As long as you are wearing a tin foil hat they most definitely are

    • Let us know in 6 months

    • +3

As long as you're not taking it on an empty stomach it should be ok.

If you need to take a painkiller on an empty stomach best to use something like paracetemol

      • whoops, I've been taking it on an empty stomach probably average once a fortnight for hangover cures. Will I have long term damage?

        • Not in the short term, but long term yes.
          yolo.

          • @Jessie Ryder: What are the long term damages? Will i feel the symptoms soon??

            • +9

@Homr: Nervousness, anxiousness, the need to ask questions in an internet forum.

              Please monitor.

        • I used to be like this too, until I got stomach ulcers… now I take it only with food

          • @montorola: Are stomach ulcers permanent?? How do u know if u got one or not??

            • +1

@Homr: Nah not permanent - you'll know because it'll be painful (feels like painful stomach ache). Ulcers form because ibuprofen eats away at the stomach lining, then the acid from your liver will inflame it causing pain.

            • @Homr: You will know when you get your ulcers, keep pop'n those pills bro.

    • +2

Occasional use should be fine. If you need to take them more regularly (eg arthritis), switch to Celebrix (prescription required) ; it has less effect on the gut lining. Celecoxib is selective for Cyclooxygenase-2 (mostly involved in inflamtion), whereas Cyclooxygenase 1 has various non-inflammatory functions. I have been taking Celecoxib daily for years and nothing bad has happened to me as a result. If I don't take it, I get arthralgia in several joints which leads to peripheral neuropathy. That said, it is best to combine a COX inhibitor with a proton pump inhibitor (eg omeprazole) to reduce the likelihood of stomach problems (I had gastric reflux before I started taking Celebrex).

  • What is a "blister" pack?

    • +1

You have to squeeze them out.

    • We don’t trust people in Australia to not have them in a jar like other countries.

  • The batch may be close to the expiry date, though.

    Still cheaper at ALDI.

  • Anyone tried these? Some generic ibuprofen I've had without any coating are so bitter… They're a hard pull to shallow. Pun intended.. But true.

    • Got them before, works as expected

    • Yes these are fine. They have a small layer of coating.

    • +1

I find it hard to swallow any tablets, even small ones.
Rather than take the tablet and washing it down with water, try filling your mouth with water first then pop in the tablet and swallow - IME it has less chance sticking somewhere and usually goes down "without touching the sides."

      • You should be taking these with food anyway so try chewing a small bite of something and then slipping the tablet in so you can swallow it all together. Many people who find swallowing tablets hard usually have no problems with food.

    • Hard pull to shallow, huh?

      I'm assuming you're swimming currently? 😜

    • Not as chalky as Panamax, but not quite the shiny Skittles coating as others

    • Don’t chew them.

    • These are the only ones I get now, even at full price. They are fairly cheap, and are small, coated pills that I find very easy to swallow. Often the cheaper pain meds (particularly paracetamol) are huge, horse tablets. But these are good

    • Not meant to be used as a sweetener, just swallow them.

I have noticed my local Woolies not storing their $0.90 home brand ibuprofen anymore

I always check origin "made in" specially in case of medicines - I hope its not an indian product again. 😕

  • They only let me buy 1 packet 😞

  • Does anyone know when the sale ends?

  • I had never used ibuprofen before, but i kept hearing people talk about it. Only had used Panadol, So i got some from a deal on here a while back (generic), i find it doesnt seem to help as well as panadol does for headaches. Is it not for headaches? People had told me they use it instead of panadol but for me at least panadol does seem to work better.

    • +1

Two different medicines for two separate purposes. Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory and paracetamol is a pain reliever.

    • +1

The efficacy of Panadol or ibuprofen would depend on the cause of your headaches. From what I can recall - paracetamol acts on your central nervous system to reduce feelings of pain, whereas ibuprofen acts to reduce inflammation in your body. If you know what's causing your headaches, you can sus out which would be most effective for you.

Both are effective as first line treatments for pain, and work well together. Paracetamol, aspirin or ibuprofen, and caffeine is an excellent combo for most forms of low-moderate pain.

Neither should be used regularly for a long-term period as you risk liver/stomach damage. Aspirin, for the most part, can be used safely long term.

Bring back over the counter codeine for everyday analgesia. Unfortunately the "war on drugs" mentality is very much alive in our nanny state.

    • OxyContin works even better. All aches and pains gone. And you can get a whole lot of work done.
I’m not saying to take it everyday but if you would otherwise be confined to doing nothing because of pain or discomfort, isn’t that a good thing.
