Is This HP 14-Inch Celeron-N4500/4GB/128GB SSD Laptop for $344 a Deal?

On sale at Hardly Normal -

Haven't had a laptop for a few years, so I'm out of the loop.
Wanted for browsing, streaming, cast to chromecast maybe, docs and word processing. Not a gamer. TV is old Sony Bravia kdl (just HD I think, not super high res)

I'd appreciate a decent screen, and quiet processor and fan.

Please let me know if there's anything else I should be aware of.

I'm in Melbourne (3081)

Intel Jasper Lake chipset, Announced on 01/11/2021 = 1080 days old. 1366 x 768 low resolution display and very paltry amount of storage and RAM.

Basically it's a very low-end laptop with barely enough RAM to run windows and a sub-par display / build quality. That low-res display is going to affect your productivity too.

If you are willing to spend maybe $500 there are much better options available, either brand new or used

    • Much appreciated.

Still, it's a step up from the intel celereon t3000 on this hand-me-down lappy I've been using for a couple of days! It's been painful.

Any problems with getting US stock I should be aware of? Warranty and such?

I couldn't see the warranty on the refurbished one. Which is the 8th Gen mentioned in the comments?
      Are those guys (sellers) trustworthy?
      Are refurbished laptops okay?

      • 8th generation is any laptop with 8 in the CPU title, i.e. i5-8xxx or i7-8xxx. You don't really want one with i5-6xxx as it won't support Windows 11. Anything newer is, of course, better but the celeron line is a truly awful CPU. Note, the 8th gen CPU is different to the 6th gen mentioned in the post below, which is a great bang for buck laptop. It's the 6th generation of that specific laptop with an 8th gen Intel chip.

Refurbished laptops are generally fine - biggest concern is always battery life. You're looking at a 5 year old laptop so it's unlikely the battery is in tip top shape.

        • Really helpful info, thank you

  • I got this in black Fri sales for less than $350. Much better value for money

    • I'm physically unable to purchase something at full price knowing it was recently on sale. I'll see if he'll haggle :)

      Thanks

      • It was probably cheaper due to eBay coupon codes not because the seller had a lower price.

        • ah, okay. I might jump on the ebay plus deal, just in cases.

      • I got this laptop https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/821764. But got it for less than $300 on an earlier deal.
Its 8th gen quiet and quick.
