  • on a related note, i am finding vodafone reception for my commute to be increasingly bad. areas where a telstra phone has no problems. is that grounds to exist my contract without additional fees?

    • +8

      Not without any additional fees.

      1. Your first step should be to notify Vodafone, they need to have documented that there is a problem on your end. You can't just expect to call up one day and say something like 'I've been having issues for the past 3 months I want out'.

      2. Write down when you make the calls (time and date) and Vodafones offered solution. More times than not you will be offered a discount, credit or even a new phone (generally a refurbished model) if Vodafone believe that your phone is the issue.

      3. After a few weeks and a couple of calls if the issues are still persisting (and they will be) then make another complaint immediatly after your latest issue and let Vodafone know that their service has been unacceptable and you wish to be released from your contract.
They will give you excuses and appolagize but repeat your issues and tell them the only solution that you will accept is to be released from your contract.

From this they may offer another solution be it a discount, credit, new phone or a new phone on a new contract (with a 30 day cooling off period). If you accept a new contract then it will be harder to get out of that one because you knew of the issues when you entered the contract.

This last call may take more than an hour or two so be prepared.

      1. If they still haven't released you let them know that you are going to go to the TIO (telecommunications industry ombudsment) they cannot advise you not to but this may light a fire under them to help you because they have to pay the cost of the TIO enquiry.

      2. If they still refuse to play ball the contact the TIO and open a dispute, give them all of the information that you've written down and the exact issues.

There are still a few things to keep in mind though.

      • The customer service people may be frustrating but they are doing their jobs, refrain from abusing and swearing and appolagize for your frustrations if you accidentally do so, the more polite you are with them the more they will be willing to help you.

      • You may have to either return or pay out your handset, you will be advised of the cost.

      • Vodafone may ask for a cancellation fee, given you have not received the service you signed up for this can be negotiated or even waived.

      • Don't expect a 15minute phone call, combined this may be resolved in less than an hour or take more than 3 hours. Plan your calls accordingly.

      • Try and get it resolved without going to the TIO, it will work out better for you and Vodafone because they don't have to pay the TIO and the TIO investigation may take over a month.

      Good luck.

amazing. thank you so much. im going to start documenting.

i work with a lot of outsourced departments, i never abuse the phone reps unless they are rude in the first place.

    • I have been having problems with them too for last 2-3 months. It has been getting increasingly harder to have a decent call with the mrs. Have been calling and letting them know, have made 5 complaints so far. Every time, I only get assurance that it will get better soon. No real progress has been made.

Discussed with them about getting out of my contract (was on the phone for 1.5 hours). The lady said she would get back to me, has been 2 days still waiting for them to call back.

    website looks dodgy

    • +1

no.. it was called MoneyBackCo before

      • they obviously don't spend too much of their money on developing their website.

        • i have seen much worse.

        • +2

          me too.
but i actually did get cash back from them

        • but i actually did get cash back from them

That's all the matters in the end..

PS: I also got cash back from Buckscoop.

Can confirm both of these services are legit!

  • You would not be able to have access to 4G networks with Vodafone until 'next year', doesn't seem like a good idea to get an iPhone5 with them….

    • +1

      until 'next year'

have Vodafone said 2013, or 'next year'?

      because 'next year' never comes…

        its scheduled for Q1 2013

        • +5

          its scheduled for Q1 2013

          fingers crossed…

what exactly do they really mean by "introduced" though… one tower?

        • That means it will first be introduced in Sydney n melbourne or something like that. so possibly 2-4 towers. that 200-400% more than what you were expecting. :D

  • With cashbacks that large it starts to become a really big factor in the purchase decision. Question is, is the reliability there to match it? StartHere may do their best but the bigger the amount, the more I have to worry about the risk of the 'tracking' etc. failing without it being clear who I can blame (StartHere or the vendor?) if everything was done right on my end.

    • it's sort of a hit-or-miss. i've had rebates from them that were tracked hours after a purchase, and others that took months or never showed up. they do have the facility for you to request for a missing rebate though in my experience that almost never works out (e.g. i have an amaysim rebate that i've requested for in feb and it is still "pending")

    • The rebate was $100 before and I have successfully received it for two of my Vodafone contracts. It did take something like two months to come through though. And Vodafone coverage sucks, so now I just want to get rid of the contracts.

    • Mine worked OK. Check it tracked the next day and if it did you should get your cash back in ~2 months but from what I've heard do everything on line and don't make any alterations.

  • Do they still have membership fee?

    • link says 'Free to join' but maybe their is an annual fee ???

      • Yes they take $10 a year out of your cash back.

  • is only for 2 year plans or does it include 12 month plans as well?

    • Yes any plan. I signed up to a 12 month plan and got the cash back ~2 months later.

  • Run, hide from Vodafone, that $105 is not worth it. I live in inner Sydney, many times I get SOS signal, not even 2g.

    • same with Virgin/Optus in too many places…

but then again, the other week I tested my Virgin 3GS against an iPhone 5 in a Telstra shop connected to Telstra LTE and web browsing on my 3GS was notably faster…

      • Don't trust your phones signal while your in a shop, they are legally allowed to have signal boosters while the general public aren't.
(Although Optus has released one for ~$300)

        • i was in a Telstra shop, why would they boost my Virgin mobile to outperform their own phone?

        • Sorry I misread.
I'm with Virgin myself and in very happy, I have one area that I receive less than 50% reception but I can always make and receive calls.

Although I may be easy to please after Vodafone.

Did you do a speed test? I know LTE from virgin (Optus) kicks the crap out of standard 3G. (Averages at 7mbps for 3G and 22mbps LTE for download).

    • i have the same problem with oputs.
signal is fine when i am near balcony. however, when i walk in to kitchen (about 5m), no signal at all!!! I am living in CITY..

  • I am out of contract from vodafone, and they refused give any good credit for upgrading, so I am thinking of going with some one else, apparently poor reception from vodafone. can anybody advice me who is out their best and a plan matching vodafone $49 cap plan. Thanks

    • +1

liveconnected $13 plan is about equiv to voda $49
with the savings go buy a phone outright

    • Virgin is the closest to Vodafone in my opinion in terms of value, but Vodafone does offer the best data on their plans of the big providers.

If you do switch to Optus or an Optus provider I'd highly recommend getting a small prepaid sim to test the water.

  • +1

    lol vodafone

    rubbish

  • I am have tried to upgrade by following the steps and after being diverted to the vodafone webiste it says I need to call them or visit a store… So there is now way I can earn my $105…

    Mmmm

  • +1

Would rather get a LiveConnected plan, still better value for money than Vodafone with the discount, and haven't had any signal problems on Optus network in SA.

  • what about amaysim? optus is also got less coverage in my area, would prefer a telstra retailer, I also use data on my mobile, so must be someone with some good data speed, any recommendations?

  • +2

I've always received the cashback from any time I signed up with Vodafone through this website. I've received to date over $300 from them so I can say it is somewhat reliable.

While the website sure looks unprofessional, they have a Chrome extension which alerts you when you go to a website with cashback and how much you will get (http://www.perthhacks.com/2012/09/starthere-gives-gold-membe…) I think they still give gold membership in October

  • thanks, but no thanks…

    No thanks.

  • Is the NRMA 10% discount able to be combined with $105 cashback?
I remember doing this 2 years ago, hoping it's still available.
