No its because he is wrong, like yourself.

I am wrong based on what exactly?

People will come to their own conclusions and then write it off to a $15 lesson, one at a time.

@Oofy Doofy: Based on that many people I know have used these for years in a house with aircon and they havent broke. If they broke all the time it would be widely known.

            • @Spendmore: I have to disagree with you on this one.

A lot of people had these devices basically given to them over the years, as part of freebies or deals… they're literal ewaste. Anyone paying for one of these is a mug, regardless. Google should have done a better job with them. To me it seems like they save the QLC for other products they make, just not this product.

@Oofy Doofy: Im guessing you have a dud or there is something with your house wiring.
I have not heard of these failing en masse.

                • @Spendmore: My property wiring is over engineered. I have no problems with other equipment outside of entropy.

@Oofy Doofy: Please feel free to provide a source where i can read about mass faulures of these, note that half a dozen people on Reddit doesnt make it a mass failure.

                    • @Spendmore: It's just psychology, and reddit isn't the suppository of all wisdom.

                      • @Oofy Doofy: Psychology causes them to break in an air conditioned home, en masse?

                      • @Oofy Doofy: I've got 3 of these around the house and they're all working fine. I have had an issue with one of them where it stopped responding, but after some Googling, all I had to do was reset it by pulling the power out of it 3 or 4 times as it was turning on and then reset it up. After that it was fine.

I grabbed a few from bunnings today. Thanks for the post

  • Can I price beat with the above link on officework? Not really Bunnings exact website

    • No you can’t

      • Ah.. thanks for the heads up

  • Toowoomba North had stock but they scanned at full price

  • I have a weird issue where one of mine intermittently says "hang on while I get connected to WiFi".

    Factory reset didn't fix it.
Taking one from another room and placing it in the spot of the first one doesn't fix it.

It never used to happen, nothing changed with my network. Doesn't happen with any other Home Minis I own around the place. The troublesome area has perfectly fine WiFi signal (ie other devices like phones or laptops don't have any WiFi signal issues)…it's less that 10 metres from the Nest WiFi Puck. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    So strange…

    • Got a adblocker on network ???

if not go to Google home app, and remove the Saved Wifi from device and reset it from your app too

    • This happened to me for a bit. Turns out it was my isp that had issues for a few months even thought they didn't say so. Get them to run a line test. Since their last outage, it was suddenly fixed and has been good for over 2 years

    • I have had similar issues with various devices, including a Nest Mini and the first gen hub.

There was various anecdotal evidence about updates causing issues with things like band steering, mesh networking, certain 5Ghz channels etc.

The fix for me (which has worked fine since) was to set up a dedicated 2.4Ghz SSID (non mesh) for my smart devices. (Try and make sure it is on a clear channel, and a different channel to your other 2.4Ghz network).

  • Newstead Bunnings had the 'take this to the information desk to purchase' card with the $15 shelf label. But the girl at the info desk immediately said "sorry out of stock and since it's a restricted item we're not getting any more in." Bet she's had to say that a few times!

  • Collected 2 from Bunnings on the 1st Jan. Purely comes down to stock availability. Nrby site is not up to date, best to call around if are after one. Also strictly only Chalk colour.
