I mean there's always a comment about it on the Plex deals anyway. There's no deal if it's already free.
does jellyfin allow remote access yet?
Yet? It always has, just need to sort out port forward and DNS. There's no managed service for it, if that's what you're asking. Most server owners see that as a benefit though.
it has for a good while.
most tvs or streaming boxes already support plex but not many support jellyfin though
Available on any Android device (some might need side loading), available on iOS, available on Samsung Tizen devices by sideloading. Also available on Xbox. The vast majority are covered.
AppleTV?
@Jessie Ryder: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/swiftfin/id1604098728
Still in beta but no major issues from what I understand. Don't use Apple devices myself.
Exactly, you have to jump through hoops
@minijumbuk: You literally click the link, tap enroll, and download. It's 2 extra taps lol.
"…..Samsung Tizen devices by sideloading. "
Can you explain how this can be done on Samsung TV.@dajiska: This is probably the simplest at the moment:
Depends really, for instance, Jellyfish only works as a client on shield and not as a server, so for some users it may not be a like for like replacement.
You can certainly go and promote it on the forums….
Jellyfin is very good for a free alternative, but the library management side is absolutely rubbish. That part is particularly important to me considering I have quite a big library of TV shows, movies and music.
Plexamp is also amazing and AFAIK Jellyfin does not offer an alternative to this at the moment.

Can you be more specific? The only improvements I'm waiting on are better collection handling (across media types) and disc titles for multi disc albums. Everything else seems to work as expected. I actually find Jellyfin better for those annoying situations where tbdb isn't great, like broadcast/DVD/digital episode orders. Much better for having multiple versions of the same film, don't need to have them as separate library items, they just add extra versions.

Check out finamp. There's tonnes of other clients too.

How good is Jellyfin LG TV app?
What is this?
ta
Thing that sucks about plex app is that content that's already available through the official streaming apps has no ads - no fuking idea why plex adds ads for
@cobknob: companies pay them to advertise?
Just like TV
Is this my lifetime, the company's lifetime or the developers lifetime?
Whichever one is the shortest
Ha. Unlikely any of the 3. More like 10 years max. Most lifetime purchases and warranties are very limited. Unfortunately there ain't no model that is sustainable otherwise.

plex pass ever do 50%off?
Most I've seen is around 25%, but people have had success with VPNs previously. If there is a method that works via VPN currently, I'd be keen to know!
Just use whatever that works for you, Plex or Jellyfin… The world is not gonna end just because you not using FOSS such as Jellyfin.
I use both Plex (paid user) and Jellyfin. But Plex is always my first choice and Jellyfin is just the backup video manager. Both has its strength and weakness. But when it comes to friend/family sharing, I do personally prefer Plex.
